Could the WWE do Brock Lesnar vs. Big E. Langston at the Royal Rumble?

This is something I've been thinking about since it was known that Brock Lesnar attacked Mark Henry, presumably putting him on the shelf temporarily. Big E. Langston has been all buddy-buddy with The World's Strongest Man lately, and can't take too kindly to Brock beating him up when he was just looking for a match (as Langston put it).

The WWE clearly wants Big E. to be a big thing in the WWE. He's currently the Intercontinental Champion, and one of the main points the WWE has been clear to point out since the unification of the WWE Championship and World Heavyweight Championship is the raised prestige of the Intercontinental Championship. Would it be such a stretch to see Langston considered as more of a "main event player" with the IC Title around his waist than he would have been if he had won the title say a year ago?

On RAW, Paul Heyman has hinted that Brock plans to do something "old-school." This is more than likely going to be fairly violent. Imagine if Big E. Langston saves the day on some poor sap being hurt. Heyman could hold Lesnar back and remind him that he doesn't fight for free (the usual). Langston would get such a rub just from this moment. On SmackDown, Langston could successfully defend the IC Title against Ryback or somebody, and after the match cut a promo challenging Brock Lesnar to a match. Paul Heyman could come out, sans Lesnar, and ask Langston if he's insane. Heyman could say that he's impressed with the fire Langston has shown, and he did defeat Curtis Axel -- a man Heyman labeled as a future WWE Champion -- to become IC Champion. Heyman could offer Langston a spot in his crew and hint at the slight re-branding of him becoming "The Next Big Thing" E. Langston. The champ can joke about liking the sounds of that for a second, and then flat-out refuse Heyman's offer. He can re-affirm his loyalty to Mark Henry and tell Heyman that he knows he's insane challenging Brock Lesnar to a fight, but he'd be more insane to join Paul Heyman after he's seen how he treats his clients.
"Tell the old man that if he wants a piece of me, he can see me on RAW."

Vickie Guerrero can come out, get some massive heat and tell Big E. Langston that he won't fight Brock Lesnar on RAW. He can fight him at the Royal Rumble -- if he's willing to put his IC Title on the line. Langston thinks about it for a second and then says "I am."

It may seem like a match "too big" for the IC Title, but it would certainly be an attraction for the show, and the biggest match of Langston's young career. No one would really think he has much of a shot going in, but that would be the endearing quality about him. Langston can be interviewed by Renee Young heading into the match and he can say that a lot of people see the IC Title as a stepping stone, and he used to be one of them, but it's also been defended in the main event at WrestleMania, and the main event of SummerSlam. While he's holding this title, it's his Holy Grail, it's his pride and joy, and it's his World Title. If he can't beat Brock Lesnar, then he doesn't deserve to be the Intercontinental Champion."

I don't know, I think it would be pretty cool. I haven't been completely sold on Big E. Langston yet, but he's got charisma and he's got some skills. He's clearly got some backing from management and something like this could be that little nudge towards stardom that a run of the mill mid-card title reign no longer necessarily affords a talent.

All Langston would need to do is shoulder tackle Lesnar across the ring at one point during the match and the place would go nuts. If he holds his own for a bit, then people will see him in a whole different league. Lesnar would of course gain control of the match, but perhaps they can do a spot where Langston actually gets to kick out of an F5 (after an arrogant cover from Lesnar). Perhaps, since Lesnar is clearly too big for the IC Title by WWE standards), Brock could get a Kimura locked in on Langston, who gets to the ropes, but Lesnar refuses to break it and he snaps Langston's arm, getting disqualified in the process. It'd be a technical victory for Langston, but Lesnar would build momentum as a monster on his mission to attain his true goal -- the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Or maybe Lesnar does win the title? Langston wouldn't lose much from getting pinned by Brock. While Lesnar holding the IC Title may not conventional appeal, he could take it into whatever program he is working at WrestleMania and make it a big deal. I'm still hoping for Brock vs. Batista. It wouldn't be your conventional IC Title match, but the WWE could bill it as the biggest IC Title match of all-time. Meanwhile Dean Ambrose can get more attention as the US Champion.

No. they wouldnt waste "Brock Days" on a throw away match. And Brock would probably refuse.

What Hanso said. Given that Brock only wrestles 2-3 times per year, I feel like he should only be in stuff that has a big match feel.

Big E is nowhere near big enough a star to be in there with Lesnar.

Woulf rather that Big E have a slow and gradual push than rush him with that status of a match this quickly or else the possibility of another Ryback-like situation could occur. Same if in theory it was Reigns vs Lesnar since he's also seen very fondly by management.

Having Lesnar-Big E take place at Mania would be a lot better fit than at the Rumble.

Right. The only guys Brock has Wrestled in 10+ years is Cena, Punk and HHH, the 3 biggest names they have. And they are talking about putting him against Taker. He is MAIN EVENT ++

I love Langston and think he has a good future as a Upper Mid Carder. But no way is he ready for a program with the Beast.

The only guys I can see going with programs with Lesnar are Cena, Bryan, Punk, Big Show, Taker, Orton, and MAYBE a returning Henry.

Assuming he's back before Brock ditches the WWE again I'd like to see him work a program with Sheamus..

Could see that being really good...and HHH is supposedly quite in love with his milky white skin and fantastic back.

I essentially echo Tommy Gunn's thoughts on Langston. I'm sure he's probably got enough potential, but enough to warrant a push over so many of the amazing guys they also have? Not quite sure yet.

Lesnar vs. Sheamus would impress a lot of people. When it comes to ring work, I feel that Sheamus is underrated, and it's easy to forget that Brock Lesnar is fucking brilliant.

I would actually really like to see Lesnar in a program with Sheamus, but only if it's badass celtic warrior Sheamus, and not goofy cringe-worthy face Sheamus.

If office politics weren't an issue, then your booking would be must-see viewing.

BTW, be sure to not say "I don't know" when you're posting a well thought idea, because your stab at humility weakens an otherwise strong post that could sell itself.

You'd kill off Langston's momentum before he even got started. Slow builds. Remember what happened with Ryback when they hotshot him with Punk?

I'm curious to see how Sheamus returns to the WWE. I absolutely love the guy in the ring, but his character just doesn't really do it for me. He would have been so easy to build as a ruthless bad ass babyface. I wouldn't pull the trigger too quickly on Sheamus vs. Batista.

It appears that Brock Lesnar is not going to be in the Royal Rumble Match, but I hope that he beats Big Show and then enters as a surprise. I still have hopes for a Batista/Brock Lesnar clash, with the two getting so caught up that they forget about Roman Reigns, who eliminates them both. Reigns makes it right up to the end of the match, and he then proceeds to get eliminated by a returning Sheamus (probably to a chorus of boos after the tear he's been on). Sheamus and CM Punk then finish the Rumble in style -- Punk manages to get Sheamus over the top rope, but he holds on. Punk tries to roundhouse kick Sheamus off, but he ducks and catches Punk with his clubbing blows. Sheamus tries to reverse suplex Punk out, but Punk manages to hit a kick to the head and then hits his rope-run knee strike to Sheamus, standing on the apron, knocking him to the floor and winning the 2014 Royal Rumble.

The Shield can then make it a point of business to take out Sheamus. A Reigns vs. Sheamus match would be quite fun.

I think with the right opponent Sheamus can still do good face work. At this point hes a legit number 3 face in the company, so they wont turn him heel.

I liked his run a good deal except for the work with Del Rio when he became silly wanker Sheamus doign stupid pranks on Del Rio. But I think that was more or less about their direction in that feud and you cant have a real "intense" type feud with Del Rio.

Bring him back at the Rumble to a huge pop. And just have him be the "Ill fight anyone anytime" Sheamus where he will surely stand up to Lesnar/whomever and avoid the silly stuff. Showing up and telling Heel Batista or Lesnar "If you're looking for a fight, you got one right here Fella!" or something then just have a hard hitting couple matches.
