I actually wonder if they are going to forego a Shane match and do some sort of Cena/Styles match given that Cena is likely to lose the belt at Elimination Chamber. Another possibility is that they have Cena retain the belt and they actually do Cena/Orton with Orton being backed by The Wyatt Family -- or at least Bray Wyatt. It wouldn't be the most tone-deaf thing WWE has ever done.

Going to be dumb if it really happens but then again WWE felt Joe would be better on RAW than have a potential Joe-Cena match occur at Mania.

WWE even felt it would be better to get a potential Cena-Orton match out of the way early than have that as a possible option for a Mania feud.

Cena will face Orton or Undertaker in a retirement match of some kind
Cena will face Orton or Undertaker in a retirement match of some kind:

I have no idea what's going on in the storylines right now and so I might be way off base, but I suspect that Cena will face one of Orton or Taker at Wrestlemania. Cena will then defeat Orton/Taker causing him to retire (and subsequently, leading Jim Ross to give a blow job).

If Cena faces Taker - I think the WWE will play it off as the winner of Taker/Goldberg/Lesnar at the February PPV will get shot at Cena. Taker wins the match (return win against Brock in an indirect way), before doing the job to Cena. Lesnar trounces Goldberg at Mania.

On the other hand - I think Orton's victory at RR was very strange. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the WWE's way of paying Orton his respects before Orton fades into the sunset.

Either way - I think Cena will face Taker or Orton......with Taker being the more likely choice in my opinion (Taker would call out Cena after defeating Lesnar/Goldberg despite being on a different brand).

Cena retiring Taker is the WWE's best route. Don't overthink it.
Why not just go with the obvious, Cena vs. Taker?

Taker needs to retire ASAP, and the story/history of Cena/Taker is pretty much there (i.e. Taker shaking a young Cena's hand backstage in 2002).

They should hype the shit out of that.

It's going to be his retirement match, so I don't know what you're bitching about. Should a guy with the legacy he has and the indelible mark (no pun intended) he's left on the industry not be allowed to have a proper retirement match on the grandest stage of them all?

(The answer is yes, BTW). I feel confident the whole "Taking souls and digging holes" speech about him not being defined by just WrestleMania anymore was meant as a sort of very cryptic hint that he'd be in the Rumble match, and that Vince plans to unveil him as a co-headliner this year for the HoF at some point on a RAW after Fastlane. Either that or they give him the retirement match at WM 33 (which he absolutely deserves to be able to have) happens anyhow sans any announcement due to Kurt going in, and he's made the headliner of the 2018 class. It"s really simple stuff, yet some people here insist on way over thinking who Undertaker will or should face, when we should all just be preparing ourselves to bask in his glory one last time @ WM 33.

* Nikki Bella might retire from active competition after the match.

It's funny, I first heard about this idea maybe four months ago and thought, well that's strange. But as you laid out, it fits into everything WWE has going on. It brings a lot of different properties together and will likely appeal to a larger base of fans than just say Cena vs Taker or Styles or whoever.

The one thing I'm not clear on, is if Maryse will be in the match itself. I had heard another name with Maryse at ringside, but maybe that idea was nixed or fell through. In my mind, they need someone else involved to make Cena and Nikki the underdog. But lots of road left in the march to Mania.
