I don't think you realize how ridiculous this statement is. Most of us would not have read an observer from 90-94 because we wouldn't have been even 8 years old yet and we're not psychos who hunt down old wrestling observers lmfao.

How about when WCW NEEDED Sting and he didn't deliver?

This is more my argument. Fed needed Edge? No not really. But he made himself considerably more valuable then they had ever inteded him being.
Sting however, much like Hart, was set to succeed and failed to deliver at every turn. Early 90s, Late 90s, TNA doesnt matter. No one ever got their money's worth out of Sting. |

Toughest round yet. Genuinely had to leave it a day or two coz I couldn't be bothered to pick immediately. I went with Edge though. Huge fan of Stings, but I feel Edges "prime" was more entertaining and varied than Stings. Edge's also happened at a higher level, on a more global stage than Stings did.
I also feel that Edge had a lot more memorable moments that have stood the test of time, most of of what I can remember of Stings biggest moments have been tarnished by WCW's awful booking or general shoddiness. Prime example is Sting/Hogan Starrcade '97 (which, for the record, to ten year-old mark me, that was the greatest match ever and the finish didn't detract from that at all... it's only as time goes by that I look back on it and roll my eyes are how messy the whole match and ensuring shenanigans were). |

Yeah because of Hogan, Sting didn't even talk during the build up and then showed up out of shape

Regardless of how the match played out... he drew the biggest buyrate WCW ever had. Of course Hogan/the NWO had a lot to do with it. But it was Sting that he drew the biggest buyrate ever with. People wanted to see Sting vs Hogan.

Because they gave his character a complete overhaul and Hogan was an unstoppable heel with an unstoppable faction and that this new character Sting played was probably the only thing that could stop them... and it flopped.
Sting didn't say a word the whole time. So wouldn't it be more fit to say the people who booked the Sting character drew the biggest buyrate WCW ever had? And even then, did that buyrate do better than WrestleMania XXIV, which was main evented by Edge and Undertaker? |

If we wanna factor in booking, we're gonna have to go both ways. Without a brand split, Taker, the streak and WWE deciding to put like the 3rd most hyped match on the card on last, does Edge ever have a shot at main eventing a WrestleMania?
Also, comparing the buyrate of a WrestleMania with that Starrcade is just ridiculous. lol |

Would be like Hogan and Andre selling out the silverdome and then putting an an all time turd. It matters. |

It's not a huge deal in this context. It drew. Because of Sting. That's what we're talking about. Whether Sting was able to draw at any point. Hogan vs Andre wasn't exactly a great match technically either. That matters if you're Dave Meltzer. Doesn't take away from how it drew. If it was a million times worse, it wouldn't take away from what it drew.

It drew because it was well booked. When it was time for him to hold up his end he failed.

And Hogan/Sting wasnt "tachnically bad" but was simply bad. It was recieved poorly.

But regardless. I'm not basing my choice on draws. I've said before I don't think that's the way to judge a guy because booking plays a factor.
BUT, as far as "No one ever got their money's worth out of Sting", how much more money's worth do you need to get than "biggest buyrate ever"? |

As far as why I actually made my choice, I don't think Edge could have been a bigger star in an ideal situation than Sting.

If I asked sting to give me a 10 sting would give me a 9. If I asked edge to give me an 8 he would give me a 9. Id rather over deliver than underdeliver.

I just don't get all this super high praise for Edge. He was solid, don't get me wrong, but to me he is just a tag team wrestler who benefited from WWE having a lack of talent at the right time for him. His legacy resides in the fact that they didn't have enough legit main eventers. He's like Jeff Hardy without the personal problems.

Given everyone's age, and the fact the WWE "won the war", it doesn't surprise me that people leaned towards Edge.
