His song and the audience participation part with "BOOM" is more over, tbh.

I just loosely booked out AEW until the third Wembley Stadium show. Adam Cole, unfortunately, does get about 6 months with the Tag Titles and gets to unify the ROH Tag Titles with them. The bastard.

I stopped watching NXT when he was champ.... I remember people here going banana over a Gargano/Cole match and I was just like "that was pretty bad"

NXT really lost something when Owens left. I remember that Finn Balor period being where I just couldn’t be bothered to stay up on it. Don’t know if it was “bad” per se, but it certainly felt like a slog.
The Revival/Alpha Academy/DIY period of the tag division was great though. But I could never get into Johnny Gargano as a single. Glad he and Ciampa are together on the main roster. In theory, anyway. |

Adam Cole is pretty meh for me. I won't change the channel or skip his segments, but I'm not super excited about him either. His size is definitely a factor.
The "training" vignettes with MJF were fun, though. |

NXT for me lost the luster not even because of what they were doing, but because the way Vince used everybody good from NXT so badly that it made NXT lose being worth really investing in. At the time I came to that realization when Aleister Black was champion, thinking he should be somebody to be excited about getting called up to the main roster, but knowing there was no way Vince would book him well.
Looking back now, the truth is that it ended when Bobby Roode lost the NXT title to McIntyre, and then debuted on Smackdown the next week as a babyface for no other reason but people liked his entrance music. Everything after that was hoping people didnt get called up and ruined, and just treating NXT as its own show, not building up anybody to make an immediate impact on the main roster. |

Yeah, there was a real disconnect between NXT and the main roster. That’s one of the positive changes Vince being out of creative means. Triple H can plan forwards way more now.

I still think that was the plan when Vince was distracted with XFL 2: Electric Boogaloo. Set guys up in NXT, hammer out the things they consider kinks, and call them up as "new" superstars with something to them that's already kinda working. As much as I couldn't stand HHH as a talent, he does make a far better coach and team executive than the mediocre, up his own ass player he was on the field.
But Vince came back too early, saw the talent on the burner, and went "WHAT THE FUCK, PAL?!?" here and "BUT HE'S JUST SO TINYYYYY!!" there, and fucked everything up with touches and spins when they got called up. As much as they dodged a proverbial bullet with Velveteen Dream (we didn't know about the crazy batshittery and the child chasing at the time), but I remember being more fearful than excited with his "Call Me Up, Vince" gear that he would be taken up on it, then stripped of everything that made him so captivating. Multiply that by nearly everyone. I think that's also why there was this whole "turmoil backstage" thing brewing a few years ago with Hunter - the rumors of people talking about how they were "lied to" was prob'ly because the original plan of pushing guys Vince wouldn't have running up against a returning Vince who wasn't having it. And because it's Vince, the issue goes unaddressed because you can't just throw "THE" big boss under the bus he's clearly driving. |

I think there’s something in Vince’s nature that just means he has to clash with someone else’s “guys.” If Triple H thought you had the tools, Vince has to prove that you didn’t, pal. He fucked with so many Cornette guys from OVW, Heyman guys, Trips guys.

I can only imagine how pissed Vince is somewhere while Bronson Reed is getting a push and on TV every week but Omos hasn't been around since SummerSlam.

Not just about Jungleboy being a really weird and lackluster choice, but to reward him right after his suspension would be yet another example of poor leadership within AEW.

Nah, I think they may have planned for it to be Jack Perry, but then they’ve seen the reaction and are going to pretend it was Adam Cole all along, even though it doesn’t make sense.
Jack Perry will end up with Nick Wayne and Luchasaurus when Christian turns on them to team with Edge. |

Wouldn’t surprise me if it was supposed to be Punk. He must have been working Tony to make him think there was no way he would sign with WWE.

Clearly it has to be Johnny Curtis. Clearly this was a plot by Ultra Mantis to get his nephew Jack Perry over, and the only person who can do that is Fandango.

Tickled. Pretty funny stuff. Why’d he do it? He didn’t even cost MJF. He’s aligned himself with Roderick Strong, who is comedy; Wardlow, who has been booked into oblivion; The Kingdom, who may not have won a single match before winning the ROH Tag Titles. This is HORRIBLE booking.

There was no good person to be the devil because these angles have historically been atrocious. This was probably the best way out, and by the reactions I'm seeing, it still didn't/doesn't work.

You’re right, but it’s by their hand. I’ve seen people say what you’re saying as an excuse and it’s like “hold on a minute…why are you even doing this at all?”
Masked figure stories rarely work (why would they act like that?), but Coke makes particularly little sense. Why has he made enemies with half the roster and done this to MJF? What does he gain? Also, the execution was horrible. |

I'm not mad about it. Cole is way more interesting as a heel so that's a plus already. I'm interested to see where it goes.

I'm not really into these Kingdom guys (Mike Bennett and...I don't know the other guy's name), though. But I like Wardlow's inclusion here.

Also, Taven looks like an NPC. He seems like his only piece of dialogue is about how much he likes using the hammerlock. Bennett looks like some dude. Like, there was a point in his WWE run where I joked that he, Curt Hawkins, and Buddy were all the same person collecting three checks. In fact, you don't see Matthews and Bennett in the same place at the same time. |

Its a good outcome for AEW. It got the ongoing reaction week to week with lots of conjecture about who its going to be. Cole works in the role and it winks to some of the longer term plays they have done.
Hopefully AC is more of a proper heel this run and doesn't indulge in the catchphrase, cool heel bullshit. My only real issue with it is how do you keep it hot until MJF returns with him and Cole injured, Seems like this has the potential to be a big MJF return pop straight into a cold angle. |

Talk of MJF being out for up to a year. Could be bull to make the return “even bigger” but I’m not sure how they keep it hot for that long if true.

It was never smart to books like 8 different angles around MJF, who even if he wasn't injured, would have been nonsensical if they were going to run the "oh he is a free agent" deal. That whole thing dies after the first WWE show he doesn't show up on. The tease of him going to WWE when his contract is up doesn't work once his contract is actually up.

I watched the promo. Fucking boring. Cliched. A bunch of white dudes dressed in black pretending to be evil. Be honest, this fucking sucks.
They’re already booking this to end too. Wardlow handing off the title to MJF? Lol. |
