* Five Neo-Geo games were revealed to be among the launch lineup for Switch's eShop although might separate from the Virtual Console service based on speculations.
https://www.destructoid.com/these-ar...h-412653.phtml

* Nintendo announced the Switch will be able to support up to 2TB for external storage devices when those get released at a later date post-launch. In terms of launch, highest that can be supported is 512GB mainly due to 1TB cards not existing at the moment.

Absolutely mental if you are forced to buy virtual console games again. I know there is money in it for them, but once you buy a game from their library, you should own that game regardless of the console.

Having to buy it again every 3 years is ridiculous.

The only difference between Zelda on Wii u and switch is it runs 720p on Wii U and 900p on the switch.

I'm fine if there's $1 upgrade fees because there's work to be done, especially adding online play. But there's some stupid rumor going around that yes, there will be upgrade fees if you bought it on Wii U or 3DS, if you have both it's free and if you have it on Wii only then you're SOL.

An upgrade fee is fine, as long as it's small, but buying the whole game again is totally unfair, especially considering how quickly the Wii U is done.

Yeah, if there's no upgrade offer, my VC experience will be the monthly rentals only. I can't do it again.

My point is that Zelda is supposedly the killer launch title to sell the switch and there's basically no difference between the Wii U version and the switch version. Most people can't tell the difference from 720 and 1080 (let alone 900).

The Gamecube version of Twilight Princess was seen as superior to the Wii version even though it came out a month after the Wii version. Probably because it was just a port of the gamecube game with tacked on motion controls..not to mention the fact it was mirrored just to correspond to how people would hold the wiimote.

I can't help but figure the same is true for Breath of the wild.

The graphics were stretched on the Wii for widescreen if set to widescreen because the game wasn't made in widescreen. Think watching a 4:3 movie stretched to fit a 16:9 screen. And worse because it wasn't HD.

It was mirrored (left is right/right is left) for the Wii version because of the wiimote.

Motion controls were just tacked on

I mention this because it seems obvious that BOTW was a Wii U game and its just being ported to the Switch

Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIII sounds like the first game to use all the features.

Quote:
The Switch version of Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIII with Power-Up Kit, announced last week at the Nintendo Switch Presentation, will launch in Japan for 9,800 yen on March 30, Koei Tecmo announced.

The Switch version of the game will offer a new officer creation feature using the Joy-Con controllers’ motion IR camera. When pointing the motion IR camera towards a target, various officers will be born based on things such as the target’s form and feel. Additionally, the Switch version offers intuitive touch-based controls. You can utilize the large screen to zoom in, zoom out, and swipe, move your units during battle, and activate officer strategies.

I've just had it pointed out to me that the only differences between Battlefield 4 on the PS4 was that it wa 720p on the PS3 and 900p on the PS4.

Lol.

Cross gen games are the norm now at console launches. Did you just forget the XB1 and PS4 launches?

When asked if Wii U purchases will transfer to the Switch Reggie states "we now have the capability to tie customer purchases to their particular Nintendo account." And says more info is coming.

Still expecting an upgrade fee, but that's something at least.

Doubt that will give us an MK8 upgrade fee or anything though, just because it would leave disc users out in the cold.

Article on the differnces between the BOTW games

Quote:
One of the big questions a lot of people have had about the Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, is what the differences are between the Switch and Wii U version of the game. Well, there's a list of the differences.

IGN did a quick rundown of the differences between the two console versions of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild after Nintendo provided them with a statement on the matter.

Both versions are essentially the same, launching on March 3rd. There are two major differences between the games, though: The first is that the Wii U version will run Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild at 720p and 30fps. The Nintendo Switch version of the game runs at 900p and 30fps when docked and 720p at 30fps when undocked. So playing the game in portable format on the Switch will be equivalent to playing on a TV with the Wii U version.

The second biggest difference is that the Nintendo Switch version of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will have increased environmental audio fidelity. They mention that the environmental sound effects will be of a much higher quality on their new system, including when running through the grass, splashing in the water, and interacting with the environment.

Most of everything else will be similar, save for the fact that the Wii U version will have to install some data on the hard drive and will need 3GB of space free even if you do get the physical version of the game. And, speaking of physical versions... the limited collector's editions are only available for the Nintendo Switch, but they don't really have anything to do with the actual gameplay or performance.

They do mention that the button icons will be slightly altered to reflect the differences between the Switch and Wii U button schemes, but I'm sure most people expected this to be the case since every platform has its own GUI.

Most people expected the differences to be a little bit... different. A lot of people were hoping for 900p at 60fps or 1080p at 60fps on the Nintendo Switch when it came to running Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but the game is a large scale, physics-driven, open-world adventure title. It uses a lot of advanced design and interactivity techniques that I didn't think Nintendo would employ. But obviously those techniques have been taxing enough to force Nintendo to lower the resolution from 1080p to 900p. So this is equivalent to what Mass Effect: Andromeda will run on the Xbox One, which is also 900p at 30fps.

The Wii U version of Breath of the Wild is equivalent to Dead Rising 3 on the Xbox One, which was also a large scale, physics-driven, open-world game that only ran at 720p at 30fps with frequent drops. Now, back at E3 last year, a lot of people noted that the Wii U version of Breath of the Wild frequently had trouble holding frames above 25fps and would sometimes drop down into the teens. According to Digital Foundry's benchmarks, the Nintendo Switch version of the game holds steady at 30fps with infrequent drops into the mid to high 20s.

We'll see how well the game performs in real-time under various conditions when both versions of Breath of the Wild will be benchmarked come March 3rd.

I suppose the Switch is a box that people pour all their hopes and dreams into, so no surprise they expected a 3D Zelda to run at 60fps.

Most games do on console so they can push the graphics instead. It's a shame as I prefer the frame rate, but it is what it is.

Nintendo does target 60fpa most of the time, but an open world like Zelda makes that target hard.

For those interested, the Switch version of Stardew Valley got delayed and won't be available at launch nor likely during its launch window. Being implied the developer needs more time for the port and may or may not be related to being busy fixing loading issues on the game's other platforms.

Stardew Valley seems like the perfect game for a system like this, very relaxing to be able to take with you on flights and stuff.

Am wondering whether I would get enough trading in my Wii U to make getting one of these worth while.

Not fussed with the launch titles, but the machine itself and it's portability really appeal because I travel so much.

I think the only reason people liked the gc version of Twilight princess more is because it was a more traditional control scheme. Motion control was in its infancy and it was just tacked onto twilight for wii. I personally liked the wii version more.

Bunch of Switch related news:

* According to Capcom, they currently don't have plans on porting any games from the Resident Evil series to the Switch while teasing Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers could end up being a timed exclusive for the console. In regards to Ultra Street Fighter II, Capcom state they'd only consider porting the game to other systems if the Switch version sold well likely to prevent people from just waiting for it on other consoles.

* Even though only FIFA was announced and later to be revealed to be a Xbox 360 port of the game, EA claims they have been in constant talks with Nintendo for stronger support for the Switch. Also claimed Nintendo has been making a bigger effort to get more major publishers on board for 3rd party support for the Switch.

* Switch's launch lineup got a small boost recently as Square Enix stated the RPG game I Am Setsuna will be available for the console's launch on March 3rd. Previously the game was only announced to be arriving some point in March and likely not at launch.

Capcom revealed some new details for Ultra Street Fighter 2:

Quote:
First off, it'll have an "arcade standby" mode, which replicates the concept of playing against the CPU and randomly getting challenged by strangers online. It's an optional setting that's been done before, but it's appreciated regardless.

In terms of online play, Ultra will also have multiple opportunities for competitive players. You have PP and BP (Player Points and Battle Points respectively) to govern, as well as wireless local play, and casual/ranked matches. The latter will be broken down further into quick, custom, friend, and lobby matches.
