Red Dwarf X

Excellent news. I look forward to it. If Holly is brought back, I can see them trying someone new. Someone, probably on TPWW, suggested Bill Bailey. I think he'd do quiet well as Holly so, if they get a new Holly, I'd hope for him. |

Each episode will be approximately 30 minutes in duration. This is a big difference from the 23 minute episodes of Back to Earth. To compensate for this fuller length and commercial break, the new episodes will be shown in a 40 minute slot, much as current Dwarf repeats are on Dave.
That's what i was hoping for if we had to have adverts, the ads made the last episodes too short. I'm a big fan of the show so will give it a chance, i know other fans though who don't want it to come back. |

I'm not holding my breath for it being any good, but still, good to see it coming back properly at last.

Loved Red Dwarf back in the day, won't get too excited about this until I've seen it though. Aren't they all pretty old now?

It's promising that all Doug's hints at future storylines revolve around character exploration thus far. Whether he's thinking ahead towards a limited budget, or simply changed his mindset as to how he wants the show to go forward, a return to the smaller, character driven focus of the earlier series may signal a return to form.
The problem is, the 8 million viewers who regularly watched the show towards the end of its BBC run will expect the action sci-fi comedy of the later Red Dwarf years, and simply decry anything else as "not as good as it used to be" (much like Part 1 of Back to Earth two years ago). I'm not saying it was as good as the original series, but most people I know who didn't like it said it was "boring". They were expecting more along the lines of a 'Gunmen of the Apocalypse' than a 'Thanks For The Memory'. If the Dave budget is going to be a struggle, I'd be happy with more from the same well as the latter. |

For me, Red Dwarf absolutely ended with ''Out of time'' (crew meet their future selves). I can't be arsed waffling on about the obvious wrongs of the episodes are that, but it was never the same. The best show on tv became cringe-worthy unfunny shite.

They definitely need to bring in some more terribly made monsters.

I used to collect the videos in the 90s. I didn't think much of the Back to Earth mini-series but I'll probably check this out.

So, did anyone watch the new episode last night? Thoughts on it?
I thought it was fine for a first proper episode in almost 15 years. My only real "issue" which is so minor that it's not worth bringing up, really, was SPOILER: show The next episode looks interesting from the "sneak peak" they gave but I think it's pretty obvious what's going to happen. SPOILER: show |

I thought they had a 2 season contract with Dave?
I don't mind if it ends, anything after season 8 is a gift, and thankfully the first episode of X was such a return to form. |
