Suicide Squad is technically the most Oscar-nominated DCEU film ever, thus far. That's going to make some people angry.

Silence of the Lambs was a horror movie?

Definitely. In my opinion horror is the most diverse genre of film that exists. It spans everything from cheap slashers to Let The Right One In. I'd argue Pan's Labrynth is as much a horror film as a fantasy film.

I'd classify it as a suspense/thriller.

I bet they make Wonder Woman bisexual in the sequel to ensure some Oscar nods.

I dunno, but I read WB was making a big push for it in various categories, mailing out a lot of screeners and etc.

Glad War for the Planet of the Apes is getting a nod. I honestly believe it was Serkis' best go at Cesar. Wishit'd have gotten more consideration

Nominations look right.
I should have known Meryl Streep would lock up another spot for Best Actress, but I think either Sally Hawkins, Frances McDormand, or Saoirse Ronan get it. Jordan Peele and/or Chris Nolan sneaking in for Best Director is the shocker here. One of those spots should have went to Martin McDonagh for Three Billboards. |

Too lazy to look it up, but was this Jordan Peele's first movie? Pretty good nomination haul.

It's not a straight horror film it's basically a thriller dressed up as one though so i get what you're saying.

The thing is that people have their own definition of horror so some people wont see Get Out as anything more than a mildly spooky comedy or a slightly funny horror or whatever. People are as right as they want to be. |

Cheap slashers have never been real horror though. That's why they get called slashers and the only people who are frightened by them have never seen the film, just the VHS cover.

Horror just has to have horror elements, be it serial killers, body horror, gothic horror, slasher, supernatural, occult, fantasy, etc. |

I think horror has more jump scares and thrillers are scary or "intense" situations as opposed to trying to scare the veiwer

The again rosemary's baby is the best horror film of all time imo and it had no jump scares...they are oddly similar generes.

Will WWE mention John Cena got nominated by proxy for Ferdinand. Itd be hilarious if that won (it won't) and Cena could be the first Oscar winning (by proxy) WWE star.

I think the scariest horror film I have ever seen is The Texas Chainsaw Massacre but I rarely watch horror films and I think I saw that when I was about fifteen. The original Hellraiser was particularly bizarre and I remember struggling to watch that but I really can't think of a horror film that was so terrifying I had to turn it off. I don't know if it counts as horror but "Eden Lake" was reprehensible, pointless ugly trash passing for social commentary and I remember distinctly watching that and thinking it was an ugly little Michael Haneke rip-off minus the style and obvious satire on social estrangement and alienation. That film made me extremely angry and I knew the moment I saw it that some people with limited analytical ability would promote it as a modern class-commentary classic and we'd see rip-offs of the rip-off later on down the road. Next thing you know I'm looking at "Cherry Tree Lane" which is like some National Front shitebag took the "Eden Lake" script and said "this needs to be racial with some black/white rape and the black people should talk like 'dis innit' so that our white audience know we're all about politics". |

Oh hang on no i just remembered "Audition".
Yeah I change my mind. Audition was fucking terrifying and I turned that off about eight times before having the courage to complete the ordeal. |
