And here I was hoping for a sequel to the Kevin Kline and Will Smith movie.

Finished this!
Really, really good. I can't believe I didn't know about this cult, the stuff they do is bonkers. |

I watched it. It's good but they glossed over a ton of pretty essential stuff. Who was Bhagwan? What was his past? What did he say that was so "spiritual" n shit? Was he actually poisoned? Why did he supposedly want to die previously? Where did the "Hollywood" crew come from and why were they so influential right off the bat? What happened to all the homeless people they tossed out into Portland? Why was Sheela so paranoid and set up tones of listening devices all over the place?
So many questions that should have been answered after 6 hours.... |

After seeing "Kumare" - one of the most underrated and under mentioned docs, imo - you can't help but laugh at these people and their devotion to what is essentially a total rando.

I didn't wander about too much of that tbh. I assumed he gained notoriety in India and became very trendy.
Sheela was really the main character (imo) and also the villain. I think she was completely power crazy...kind of nuts she still has control over people's lives and their death even now. |

Look, they never really got into the crimes committed or why. It was mostly the attempted murder of the doctor they focused on, but they didn't delve too deeply into why they suspected him of trying to kill Bahgwan or if he actually was trying to or did. Then suddenly Sheela had bugged everything. Just like that. Ok. Why? Why didn't they even ask her about it? The poisoning? Any of that.

That's what you're assuming. They never even asked her about it.

Drebs, we'll have 2 agree 2 disagree on this one, I thought that seemed sort of obvious and didn't need to be spelled out
Lots of great music in the doc btw (imo) |

What did she gain out of all that though? They never even said other than someone said they overheard Bahgwan ask the doctor about killing him. They never even said that the info came from the wire taps.
I dunno. Shoddy doc work. Also, should have had more pics of nude cult members. There were some that look straight outta an airbrushed Playboy shoot but they're totally untouched. |
