Bob Sapp was a IWGP world champ, and Norton held the belt for a short time. He was always painted as a threat, but a "great", he wasn't.
Absolutely nothing wrong with rating him as a worker and enjoying what he did more, but it's in no way ridiculous to put Waltmans body of work up against his. Even with stars around him, Norton did nothing in the US...so that argument doesn't really work either. |

It does, but I think it's equally dumb to hype David Arquette being WCW champion as a reason he was a great wrestler. Winning a world title doesn't necessarily mean shit.

People comparing Sean Waltman to "any other top cruiserweight" should probably remember that he is a huge reason there are top cruiserweights in the first place. I haven't seen as much as Norton as I should have to make a properly informed decision -- I'd like to know just how much he drew in Japan as opposed to just how much he was used in a flourishing Japan. Luke Gallows was recently pushed as a tag team legend in Japan, and he's the drizzling shits.

Voted for X-Pac mainly for watching a lot more of his stuff and enjoying more of his moments. Also for him arguably helping play a big role in high flying style wrestling becoming popular in the WWE.
Bulk of Norton's best stuff happened in Japan which I've only seen very little while his WCW era he was either under-used or just came off as another typical big man. Did like how his version of the powerbomb looked very brutal at times especially with smaller guys. |

I didn't say he was the only reason. But Waltman was tearing it up in the late 80's/early 90's, and if you don't think his success as a mid-card babyface act had any bearing on how viable Vince McMahon saw guys of that stature, then you're just choosing to be ignorant.

Nah, I don't buy it. I don't think Kid hanging around the mid-card and when he returned, having the good fortune to be buddy buddy with H had any difference on how Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio would have been perceived. Their own talents would have shined through regardless.
They wasn't even an idea to have a light heavyweight division until WCW's guys were tearing it up on Nitro. |

I'm just a huge Scott Norton mark and will likely vote him over anyone in fear that he hears about me not voting for him and powerbombs the ever living shit out of me.

Gonna post this for Hasney...
Also, completely unrelated, but how badass was Kane back then. If anything shows you how storytelling and the writing has deteriorated over the years with no competition....it's Kane's trajectory |

This is a travesty..... An utter travesty.
I declare shenanigans and allot Scott Norton an extra 10 votes to counterbalance the despicable tomfoolery that has clearly taken place in this polling. |

For the record: This is not me saying that Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio weren't important to cruiserweights getting focus and that their work was not great. They were and it was. But you're argument is "I'm saying A is true, but you're saying B, but that's not A, therefore A." Sean Waltman didn't need a light heavyweight scene to get over. He could work with bigger guys. He was the little guy in WWF, if you don't count Shawn Michaels as "little." If anything, having weight restrictions on guys in the WWF slowed them down, and that has always been the case, as they have never been able to pull their heads out of their asses long enough to make weight divisions an equal thing. I wouldn't want to be associated with cruiserweight wrestling in the WWF/E, to be honest. What Waltman provided was proof that one of these guys who could be presented as a little guy could have value outside those divisions. Most little guys had to convince other people that they were big. In WCW and the WWF, Waltman's thing was that he was the little guy, but he was important. When he jumped back, it marked the first time a major talent went the other direction and was a huge symbolic victory for the entire war. He was in extremely popular factions and carried a lot more in the ring than people give him credit for. And, if nothing else, he surely helped how Vince McMahon perceived little guys. Because in X-Pac he had a little guy he could put out there with Kane, or Shane, or HHH, or anyone and he'd get the job done. What Eddie and Rey meant in WCW and to Nitro or whatever case you want to make there is cute, but when it comes to size in the WWE, Vince McMahon is all that matters. You're seeing that play out with the 205 Live scene now. To clarify: I'm not even saying that Waltman meant more or less than Eddie and Rey did to WCW/WWF. That's besides the point. The point is just that he meant something and deflecting to Eddie and Rey is a false argument. |

Waltman is special. I think his success despite being as light as a feather before guys got over that way kind of highlights that by definition.
