That's great.

Although, in a way, I'm not surprised. They always seem to come up with "Porn sounding names" when it comes to things related to the Diva's these days.

Just look at the NXT Diva's, in my opinion, the majority of them all have pornstar sounding names.

Alexa Bliss
Becky Lynch
Dana Brooke
Devin Taylor
Eva Marie
Sasha Banks

I'm pretty sure if I told someone who isn't interested in wrestling that I was watching Alexa Bliss and Devin Taylor last night, they would think I was watching porn.

According to the Observer, they are basically going to use a Cena-like "over coming the odds" basis for Eva's mega push.
If they're looking for a "Top Diva", then why not Alicia Fox or Natalya?

Still, it will be funny seeing Eva Marie's rise to the top, while most people will probably complain about her. She'll be the Diva's division's answer to John "Superman" Cena, as he was sometimes known as, between 2005 to 2011.

She'll be a great heel. Everyone will hate her guts. She'll be hated in and out of kayfab. It will bring the "Divas Revolution" to a grinding halt but it's not like they have any idea what to do with them after SummerSlam anyway.

Could be a good story if Kendrick successfully taught her how to wrestle. She's a natural heel though.

Theoretically it's pretty sound to build a sustained push around Eva Marie's attempts to improve, and become a valuable asset to the company; but only if she really does improve.

From her debut NXT match there's still a long way to go.

Only problem with Eva getting the mega push is that it sort of goes against the narrative of the Divas Revolution. The Divas are currently rebelling against the status quo of the Bellas and Total Divas while Eva represents the same stuff that's being rebelled against.

All that's changing is instead of the Bellas ruling the division, its now Eva and Total Divas still stays on top as the main influence. Revolution wouldn't have solved anything besides more time for women's matches which wasn't the main purpose of #GiveDivasAChance.

I don't know what it is Vince and Kevin Dunn see in a girl who is hot and can't wrestle (yet) as opposed to girls who are hot and can already wrestle. Don't rush Eva Marie. Let her keep finding her legs in NXT.

Also, I have the same weird feeling #1-wwf-fan does: That The Undertaker coming back may just to be to give him a big win. I don't know why, but I just feel it's in the air. Hope I'm wrong.

I'm also feeling a Dean Ambrose heel turn, although I don't know if the timing is right.

This entire post hinges on the premise that Vince and Dunn are aware that there's a "Revolution" going on in the first place. I have very close to zero expectation that is the case.

The company will be releasing an Owen Hart DVD on 12/7, even though Martha Hart came out publicly against it. WWE absolutely has the legal right to do this, but it sure feels weird to produce a DVD on someone who died on the company's watch when his widow made it clear she didn't want them doing it.

The National Enquirer has a new article saying Hulk Hogan has been accused of lying under oath.

Their report notes that court transcripts reveal Hogan allegedly made conflicting statements to the FBI and to lawyers for the Gawker website, who Hogan has the $100 million lawsuit against. During a hearing on July 2nd, Gawker attorney Seth Berlin told the judge that he had learned Hogan made statements under oath during a talk with the FBI and during a deposition that are "directly at odds with another." Berlin wrote:

"So we have a situation... where the key participant, the plaintiff, is telling us one thing under oath and telling the FBI something else."

Legal experts told The Enquirer, who recently revealed the racist comments made by Hogan in 2008, that if the accusation is true, Hogan would be guilty of either perjury or obstruction of justice, depending on if he lied to the Gawker lawyers or the FBI. Those charges could potentially carry jail time, as defense attorney Anthony Brooklier told The Enquirer:

"That's how Martha Stewart got nailed. It wasn't insider trading that put her in jail. It was the lie she told to the cops."

Konnan can't speak highly enough of Roldan's progress over the years. "He's an an incredibly quick study. I'll give you example: Dixie Carter, who didn't grow up in the business like Dorian, she still doesn't know what the fuck she's doing. And she's been there...what, 13 years? You just have to live it every day. You can't just be showing up to certain TVs and not the others You have to be passionate and live it 24/7, y'know? And he does. He just became immersed into it. He learned. He studied. He asked. And he just wanted to be that best at what he's doing. He just learned as much as he could a lot by trial and error, but he's a visionary. And he's like 30-31 years old, so he's gonna be incredible in another five or ten years. He's already a sharp businessman."
From a recent interview Konnan had with The News Hub: https://www.the-newshub.com/other-sp...ha-underground

I hope this helps...I have this one already typed... this is obviously why they asked me to be here, so I’ll answer it very honestly and then you all can go back to work. Let’s break it down into parts - “If” and “when” and “where”. There is very little doubt in my mind about the “if”. I’d say its a 99.9% chance that a second season is happening. LU is a partnership, and each of the partners are committed to making season 2 happen. The “To be continued…” at the end of UltimaLucha was not just us trolling you, it was more of a promise.

The issues about money and production costs are indeed real, although vastly overstated. We didn’t spend $20 Million - not even close. El Rey is the one of the best networks I’ve ever worked with, but what they have to spend doesn’t quite cover the costs of a show like Lucha Underground. So our choices are to either 1. Raise the money from another source, or 2. Make the show cheaper.
We are currently looking for a second broadcasting partner - either a streaming service, or even an additional broadcast network. We are also aggressively going after foreign sales, sponsorships, and integration partners. Those deals take time to secure, and that is why there has been a delay in announcing an official pick-up. The “when” of this is what’s up in the air. Of course we’d like to be back on the air in October, but realistically that date is likely to push. I’d put January of 2016 as the latest date of our return.

The “where” is also being debated and is part of option 2. LA is expensive. As much as we all want to stay in Boyle Heights, we may need to investigate a different location for season 2. There are other locations with tax incentives or where resources are cheaper. Of course story-wise we can make anything work. We all saw Dario leave the temple and where he ends up is anyone’s guess.
Lucha Underground's executive director on the plans and hopes for Season 2 of the show.

They are looking at producing a test all-women's show sometime very soon. The idea is to be like some of the indie groups that have booked arenas and done afternoon women's shows taped for DVD prior to the evening men's shows (that also include women's matches). The situation will be similar, doing a test run show called Women of Honor on an afternoon before a women's show. Right now there are no plans on including this as part of the television package. They are looking at bringing in women from Japan for the first show after the great crowd reaction to Nanae Takahashi's match with ODB in Las Vegas and a dark match with Mandy Leon vs. Deonna Purrzo turned out well on the 7/25 show in Baltimore.
ROH planning their own focus on women's wrestling as part of them fighting back against the WWE.

Quote:
The other big strong point for the company is the WWE 2K 15 video game. The video game increased $6.2 million in company revenue from the previous year model, which was a 40 percent increase in sales. It was expected to handily beat last year's numbers due to an increase in consoles the game was released on, but it still exceeded expectations.
From WWE's recent investor's meeting late last week.

Some other sheet news includes:
  • NJPW unlikely to do future G1 tournaments using this year's format due to lower than expected attendance for the tournament so far according to the Observer. The plan was to stretch out the tournament for more dates as a way to let wrestlers have more rest and make extra money but neither have occurred as planned.
  • Paramount Pictures announced they are collaborating with AAA for this year's TripleMania event. Rumored to include a tie in for Mission Impossible: Rouge Nation similar in idea to what was done with Mania and Terminator Genisys.
  • BBC had a report dealing with wrestlers and the issue of why too many end up dying young. WWE's response to the report was basically them deflecting any blame on their part for that problem. "Some past performers were part of a generation who made unhealthy and poor personal lifestyle choices". http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-33817959

I'm very surprised that ROH never really got into women's wrestling and presented it as a serious alternative. I guess they had a partnership with SHIMMER or something, but I think both companies could have used the exposure.

Booking a WWE TEW game. Planning on having a new "real wrestlers" stable debut at SummerSlam and beat the shit out of Cena with the reason being that the Cena era ruined their careers as WWE shunned them in favor of "pretty boy entertainer" types. Samoa Joe is gonna be the leader of the stable and build to a 1-on-1 match at WrestleMania. Don't know who else would fit in a stable like that though. Don't wanna put Owens back into anything with Cena. Was thinking Jack Swagger since he's doing shit and could fit the profile of a forgotten "real wrestler" in the Cena era. Who else?

I've just stumbled across this on the BBC's website.

Mr Perfect, The Ultimate Warrior and "Rowdy" Roddy Piper may sound like names from a comic book, but the cognoscenti will recognise them as former superstars of the world of professional wrestling. All of them also died unexpectedly and at a relatively young age.

Mr Perfect died in 2003 of acute cocaine intoxication at the age of 44. The Ultimate Warrior died last year of a heart attack, aged 54. Most recent to go was "Rowdy" Roddy Piper who died suddenly on 31 July of a heart attack. He was 61.

So do former wrestlers die younger than athletes who take part in other sports?

"Yes the statistical evidence is quite strong when we look at the mortality rate for wrestlers compared to other sports and the general population," says John Moriarty of Manchester University.

Researchers like Moriarty face some difficulties getting hold of data, as no official body collects statistics about the deaths of those who have spent a career in the ring.

His approach has been to aggregate the findings of others who have studied the problem.

He points to research by academics at the University of Eastern Michigan who studied a group of 557 former wrestlers.

Of the 62 wrestlers in this group who died between 1985 and 2011, 49 died before the age of 50. Furthermore, 24 of the 49 died before the age of 40, and two even died before the age of 30.

Mortality rates for wrestlers aged between 45 and 54 were 2.9 times greater than the rate for men in the wider US population, the study found.

Cardiovascular disease was the most common cause of death.

But how does this compare with other American sports?

In 2014 Benjamin Morris investigated this for the statistical blog FiveThirtyEight, looking at a group of wrestlers whose careers had ended in 1998 or earlier.

He found that 20% of those who in 2010 would have been aged between 50 and 55 had died, compared with just 4% of former American footballers of a similar age.

Rowdy Roddy Piper prepares to throw Hulk Hogan to the ground

Why might this be?

Both activities involve their competitors exposing themselves to physical harm, and the training regimes for both wrestling and American football are punishing.

But New York-based wrestling journalist Eric Cohen points to two important differences.

"There is no off season in pro-wrestling. American footballers play, what, 16 a games a season? And then get half a year off. Wrestlers can be in the ring five to six times a week," he says.

The other difference concerns the activities outside the ring and off the field.

"Wrestlers who competed in the 1970s and 80s were also living and partying like rock stars," Cohen says. "In the past the business has had a lot of issues with its stars abusing steroids and recreational drugs."

Piper admitted taking steroids and cocaine, and drinking heavily while competing as a wrestler.

The WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment Inc.) accepts that the culture of some its former employees contributed to the problems they experienced in later life.

"Some past performers were part of a generation who made unhealthy and poor personal lifestyle choices," a spokesman said, in a statement to the BBC.

"Today's athletes take great pride and personal responsibility for their overall health and wellbeing and in 2006 the WWE introduced the Talent Wellness Programme."

Cohen believes things are broadly are getting better.

"Thankfully we don't have nearly as many wrestlers in their 20s or 30s dying any more," he says.

"But as crazy as this may sound there was an incident in Mexico recently where a wrestler died in the ring."

The hope among wrestling fans is that today's crop of superstars will live longer than their predecessors.

But the deaths of Roddy Piper and others serve as dark reminders of the journey that professional wrestling has been on.
