With him, I don't think it's so much buyer's remorse, it is that they wanted Maria back, and he was just the preorder bonus. Now that their actual investment is going to be out squeezing out a kid, they lost what they were really after. In a way, seems like it is almost the opposite of Marc Mero and Sable.

Emma was surely on the bubble for a while. She's been fired before and brought back only because people backstage liked her. The heel shtick didn't exactly go over gangbusters, and Emmalina was a disaster. Her most recent run came about because she was complaining, and then the talent she worked with got less over instead of more over.

It may not have been something that was officially decided years ago, but this isn't a shocking turn of events. When I saw her name in the thread title, I immediately thought "she's been released."

I see your point, but I'm not sure if Heath has the same stuff in him. Drew McIntyre was always someone they had main event designs on. Jinder Mahal sucks, but is ripped and fits into their plans. Heath is kind of at the level you'd expect Heath to get to. But maybe he can change minds away?

I wouldn't bet on him being released though.

That's the funny thing. He has that charisma that WWE doesn't let people show on TV most of the time. (For example: remember when NOBODY thought Big Show could not do anything except be generic Andre clone until that SNL cameo? Kinda like that.) I got more enjoyment from watching the guy on JBL and Cole show than on a wrestling show that we're SUPPOSED to see him on. Kinda similar to someone like Rusev. I was adamantly against that guy since NXT, and if my opinion on him were solely from a RAW/Smackdown standpoint, I'd be calling for his head. But he does shit on social media that's fucking funny, or great, or worlds better than the boring meathead foreign heel shit they have had him doing since the dawn of time.

On TV, Slater is a whiny pussy who loses all the time. If that's all that's being put forward on national television, of course he looks like the world's biggest sucka. That's where both Drew and Jinder were before. Yes, there are other things at play with Mahal, but he's making the most of it, he's not David Otunga levels of bad and a big red mark against him is that hotshotting from jobber to number one contender in literally one week... there was no ride to take; no climb to power, and nothing to solidify him as being able to stay champion credibly... even the most chickenshit of heels started getting legit wins after awhile.

McIntyre could have been booked to be a badass last time, but Vince just got bored with him one day soon after putting the man over his goddamn self on a televised promo.

Heath could use a fresh coat of paint. Even if they don't release the guy, send him to Florida. Seriously, they don't have to treat that shit as a demotion. Let him shed the last vestiges of that One Man Rock Band crap, let him go in the ring, and give him some sort of direction to go in instead of just another guy who is just on the roster.

Backstage charisma sadly means nothing. I mean, you can see Rusev's in little things like the Ziggler program and the League of Nations stuff. You've got to have it out there in front of people. I guess booking and that sort of stuff can get in the way, but that's the world we live in, sadly.

I'm not sure if Slater is the sort of guy to even go like the guys who are labelled as being able to "go" in today's day and age, you know? I'd like to see him given a chance, but I think that if he's gone he'll just get to make cameo appearances every now and then. Unless he does really draw eyeballs to his work outside the WWE.

If you had told me in 2010 that Heath Slater would be the last of the original eight Nexus numbers to still be actively competing in WWE, I would've laughed in your face. Slater was insufferable being booked as a squeaky clean babyface on the first season of of NXT and he looked absolutely ridiculous trying to play a ruthless bad guy in all of those group beatdowns.

Fair play to him for figuring out not long after that his path to success was to go the comedy route. He's been fun to watch ever since 2012 or so.

He's not even an upsetting level of comedy to me. In the ring he's actually fairly solid and doesn't goof around too much. He's just a goof outside it. That's why I'm not sold on him leaving, because they don't really have anyone else who does what he does. I can see Rhyno moving on, but I think that will just free up Slater to do other things for them.

Emma's not very good at working heel. Her opponents end up less over than before they started. She might fair better as a babyface, but she would be #4 baby, at best, on whatever show she is on.

Just on Summer Rae: People seen to forget she had an active run as a bitch heel in NXT. I don't want to say she was great or anything, but she actually helped get Sasha and Charlotte over, from memory. She had catchy, although generic, theme music too. Paige, Emma, Summer and, as a visiting coach, Natalya were kind of like a pre-Horsewomen.

But being fair to that timeframe, we also had the impression that Wade being world champion was an inevitability, Skippy was doomed because of his shitty "what it do" gimmick, Justin Gabriel was relatively safe because of his "sinister" dive, Bizzaro Cena was a thing that was bound to happen and not something that would just be used as a one-off joke, and everyone was jizzing themselves at Michael Tarver lurking in backstage cameos.

What a simpler time it was.
