I was curious about AJ Styles’ last match in TNA, so I looked it up and holy fuck! Clusterfuck doesn’t even begin to describe it

Ummm, what the hell is going on here?
No DQ? So many people interfere and then the ref just refuses to make the count? I'm puzzled. |

Who's the little shit the ref knocked down? How is this a wrestler?
He's like 60 pounds wet and wearing boots. |

Also, Sting is a dumbass. There's like 60 guys interfering on the other dude's behalf and he locks one of them in the Scorpion Deathlock? How in the fuck is he helping AJ this way?

Hahaha, AJ has the other guy in a submission hold and that guy's lackeys keep beating down the ref instead of helping him get out of it?
TNA, you are beautiful. (live commentary as I watch) |

Impact, dead for reasons unknown to them. End game WCW is a good .4 to .7 over what WWE is running right now if they're in business.

Damn. People were still going to TNA at that point. Why did AJ have no friends? Crazy. But that is how I always figured no dq matches should go. Everyone would just come and beat the crap out of the guy they didn't like.

If I can be serious for a minute.... There was a brief time where I regularly watched TNA and enjoyed it more than WWE.
I watched it regularly from around mid 2006-mid 2007 and enjoyed it a lot more than the WWE product of the time. (And it wasn't ALL Christian related as to why) |

I think what a lot of people have to realise, is that WCW was viable competition for the WWE (pre 1999) when the WWE (WWF at the time) was at its peak. TNA haven't come even close to competing with the WWE even when the WWE was at its lowest points.

The AJ part of it was pretty good. He had lost a match a year before with the stipulation being he couldn't challenge for the title for a year and became a loner. Then ended up winning the BFG Series and the Championship from Bully Ray but wasn't under contract. Believe that ended Aces & 8's as well. Dixie tried to get him to sign a contract but he wouldn't and took the championship around the world defending it. Dixie then created a new title and the dumbest match ever a Dixieland Match which Magnus won. AJ signed a one night contract to do that match and then went to ROH a few months before his New Japan run.

I found a great WCW podcast by former WCW producer Neal Pruitt. Lots of cool WCW stories from a different perspective.

Eh, I didn't really care for it that much. Mostly because of Conrad.

it's one of those podcasts you have to take for what it's worth. You can tell more from bruce's lies and bullshit than when he thinks he's telling the truth.

And the fake arguements/ outrage from Conrad and the horrible impressions aside from Bruce's Dusty. Plus Bruce is lying half the time so what's the point of listening?

Well here's the thing. He's from Vince's old inner circle. He kind of gives an interesting window into the weird stockholm syndrome Vince's "peeps" suffer from.
He's annoying but lovable in his own way. Same with Conrad. I'm not listening to the podcast expecting the straight dope... just a chance to look back at shows I grew up watching. It's far from my favourite podcast. Like very far. But it's very enjoyable listening to Bruce try and defend terrible booking decisions or tow the company long after the fact. |

Conrad's appeal is that he is such a fucking mark. Such a mark... that he has pretty much paid wrestling personalities to be his friend. He's almost giddy to be doing it. And even though he's annoying, he seems like a teddy bear.

TNA, by and large, has been worse. WCW was actually something. When it went off the rails, it really went off the rails, but it is revisionist history and the WWE does dumb shit like they are doing now. Like, they wouldn't be getting away with their stale product if there was competition. And people like to laugh at WCW pushing old guys, but look at that Survivor Series main event. We're about to enter a PPV where the legitimate choices to headline are a repeat of a match that didn't achieve what it was supposed to three years ago; a mixed tag featuring two old guys, a non-wrestler and a green girl; and a match between an old guy and a dude with one foot out the door four or so years later than it should have been.
Honestly, modern WWE might be worse than WCW, and TNA is only worse because it exists in this other universe where you can't really take it seriously in retrospect. |
