Looks to be set in present day rather then in the 1970s like speculations said. I hope bikes are able to be riden in this one. Looks brilliant.

Early this morning, Rockstar released the first plot summary of GTA: SA, which confirmed its early 1990s millieu. Here it is verbatim:
"Five years ago Carl Johnson escaped from the pressures of life in Los Santos, San Andreas...a city tearing itself apart with gang trouble, drugs and corruption. Where filmstars and millionaires do their best to avoid the dealers and gangbangers. Now, it's the early 90s. Carl's got to go home. His mother has been murdered, his family has fallen apart and his childhood friends are all heading towards disaster. On his return to the neighborhood, a couple of corrupt cops frame him for homicide. CJ is forced on a journey that takes him across the entire state of San Andreas, to save his family and to take control of the streets." All the information released by Rockstar indicates that the controversial Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has not lost the rough-and-ready nature of its predecessors. Credit goes to Gamespot |

Nah it is exclusive to PS2.
The only thing I am worried about is it will be getting too similar to The Getaway with all the different raced gangs etc which I didn't really enjoy seeing 100's of jamaicans running after me with machine guns so I doubt I am gonna feel any different doing it on GTA. Another thing was the family mentioned. That is a new elemant to any GTA game which I am not sure it will make the game better or worse, have to wait till it comes out. |

I think they should make you able to swim.. I mean, say the police are on you, you dive in the river, they sends boats towards you.. you'd get wasted by machine gun fire before you reach land , and when the cops aren't after you.. you have no reason to die in the river.. who can't swim have like shakrs or something that can get you, or if you hit it with enough force you die but if you just walk into or something you can swim.. I always thought it'll rule to drive a car into a river and bail out as it's over the water (H)

If you're going to let swimming in, just make it so you're able to do it for like 10 seconds. So in case you fall in you can swim out. |

Ok update on features. The second picture is "suppose" to be the main character.
Also, GameInformer posted a 10 page preview with new screens. (They've told everyone to take them offline so I haven't seen the shots but when I find them...) Here's a summary on them. Screenshots - One pic shows the inside of a house, with rendered interior environments. There is furniture inside the house. - One shows a helicopter with its searchlights on a runaway criminal. - The others show how the main character can get fat, its a pic of him (fat) crossing the street with a donut shop in the background. - One shows two other characters that are apart of the main character's crew. - One shows a gang carjacking. Three guys with doo rag masks are carjacking other guys. - One shows a four person drive-by. - Another one shows a california type pimped out car. - The last one shows the background of LA with a smog sky. General - The game is more serious than the others, but the elements of comedy are still there. - A full staff of reasearch personnel at Rockstar have been studying Las Vegas, San Diego, and Los Angeles for months to ensure that they truly capture the feelings of these cities. Location - The game will not take place in Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Las Vegas. It will take place IN ALL THREE as well as the countryside in between. - Los Angeles will be called Los Santos, San Francisco will be called San Fieero, and Las Vegas will be called Las Venturra. - Each city is about the same size as Vice City. - Not all cities will be open at the start of the game. - The entire game will be about four to six times as large as Vice City. - San Fierro (San Francisco) will have hills. This city is more driving based. - You can drive from LA, through the countryside, up a mountain, into San Fran, and onto Las Vegas. - Driving through the desert won’t be empty and plain with a couple cacti...it will be vibrant and alive with weird things to see. - There will be a lot more buildings with open interiors. Graphics - The graphics engine has been tweaked. Smog will be present in LA, and real-time reflections on cars, windows, and mirrors, as well as new techniques like radial lighting, which allows for more realistic shadowing, and soft-shadow lighting for interior levels will be present. - Everything in the game now has independent models for day and night to give better lighting and shadowing. - The game will have ragdoll physics, or “impact animation” in Rockstar’s words. Vehicles - As for vehicles, there will be pimped-out lowriders, and 90’s versions of some GTA3/VC cars will return. - There will be bicycles. Story - Characters from the past will return. Gameplay - In the Las Vegas city, you will be able to buy and build a casino - and then run it. - You can then gamble your money in the casino. - Your character can wield duel pistols and potentially other weapons. - You need to eat to retain your stamina. If you eat too much fast food, you become fat and pedestrians mock you for being fat. You also run slower. To remedy this, you can go to a gym to exercise. - You can now rob homes. The robberies will require skill and planning, however. - You can recruit gang members and use them to do four person drive-by’s. Weapons - The choice of weapons will match the time in which the era of the early 90's. Artificial Intelligence - Enemy/pedestrian AI will be greatly revamped and they will think more logically. You can't beat someone to death in broad daylight and not have people notice and react. - Your enemies will be smarter, which will make robbing houses take a lot of skill. Music - There will be a rap station, but there will be a variety of other stations as always. Also, on top of that there is another list about GameInformer. GTA: San Andreas Features are.... -Improved Targeting System -Dual Weapons -Swimming -New Stamina Meter, Meaning you'll need to eat and maintain weight. -House Break-Ins -3 Citys = 1 State Los Santos (Los Angeles), San Fierro (San Fransico), and Las Venturra (Las Vegas) -You Will Play as Carl Johnson -More Hills -Improved AI -Ability to Ride Bicycles -Four-Person Drive Bys -Ability to recurit new gang members -Takes place in Early 1990's -Improved Grahpics, as well as detail -Improved Interiors Those are both two different sources stating, mostly, the same thing, so I believe it's quite reliable. Some of it may be false but, as of now, this is what everyone can expect from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. |

Regarding the last post, those all seem to be "confirmed". If that's true, I can't explain how excited I am for this game. Reminds me exactly of how I felt when Vice City was released.
