Hot damn, I found an enormous settlement on an island to the right of the castle. It's the entire island. You could literally build a city there. You just have to power on a generator and a broadcast tower. Just make sure you're not low level, and packing some serious guns, because there's some serious mirelurk opposition.

I guess your best bet would be to check all of your settlements. To make things easier, build a Bell at each one and ring it to get everyone present to walk to your location. Should make it somewhat easier to fish them out of hiding... |

Really digging Cait as a companion. She's cute, has a bad-ass accent, and likes when I drink and pickpocket people Plus she can unlock up to Expert doors/safes (haven't come across any Master with her around but I doubt she can do that)

I'll bet she can, it will just take more bobby pins. Think it takes her 5 to unlock expert. So probably ten for master.

The weapon mod system could use some improvement. I wish there was a way to remove mods in the workbench menu more intuitively.
For example, say I have a 10mm Pistol without any mods whatsoever. I loot a Pipe Pistol with Glow Sights, but I have a ton of 10mm ammo and just generally like the look/feel of that gun. It should be simple a matter of scrapping the Pipe Pistol to break it into components, then I could take the Glow Sights and apply it to my 10mm. But when you scrap the gun it just scraps the mods altogether. It would be cool if it removed the mods and put them in your inventory. The workaround is to select the gun, and "build" a standard mod for it which will remove any special ones (the Glow Sights in this case), which then puts that in your inventory. Then you can apply that mod to your other weapons. That workaround is fine and logical, and I get that mods SHOULD have some sort of component cost associated with them. It's just really tedious when you're out adventuring and take a "home base" break and have an inventory of like 15 various weapons you want to just quickly scrap but don't want to miss out on any good mods. I suppose I'm just lazy. But that's my mini-rant. It's also really annoying to get Adhesives for all those Standard Sights. Yes I know about the Vegetable Starch trick but that's another step as well. All in all I am happy with the crafting system, I'm just fussy. |

Was also not QUITE getting how the supply lines worked between settlements. My minor OCD was annoyed because all my Workshop junk mats were not showing up in my Workshops in other settlements, so I thought that meant that they were not being shared. However, you can still utilize those mats when trying to craft or create buildings.
i.e. I have some components that can be broken down into Oil in my Castle settlement workshop, but no such components in my Sanctuary workshop. If I'm in Sanctuary, I can make any gun mods that require Oil even though that specific workshop does not have those components. Such a really simple basic thing that was eluding me until very recently. |

Speaking of weapons, what is the best one ya'll have found so far?
I killed a legendary raidet to get a combat shotgun with explosive rounds. After further mods to increade damage, accuracy, and range (scopes on shotguns ffs) it is an absolute BEAST. One shot obliterates raiders, gouls and mirelurks. Two at a time if they're close enough. |

Awesome. My all-time favourite gun in Fallout NV was the Riot Shotgun. Thing was an absolute fucking monster. Have only recently found any decent shotguns and I haven't quite adopted them as my weapon of choice yet. Cait has one by default and the sheer impact of the sound of her firing is awesome.
Right now I'm using .50 caliber rifle... forget the exact name of it, think it's just a generic modded Hunting Rifle that's modded out the ass. It dropped off a Super Mutant and came with a Long Night Vision Scope attached which is great because I don't have either of the perks necessary to make that (my Gun Nut is only 2 and I don't have Science). The scope itself is awkward to use because I can't actually see where to friggin' aim it but it packs a huge punch. Otherwise I just use my modded .38 rifle for most of my damage, then swap to a 10mm when shit gets close |

Yeah I understood the concept of the supply lines and I've seen the map thing which is nice. It just never really registered with me that the resources were actually shared because I couldn't see them in the individual settlements' workshops

Love that you can rename guns too.
Oh yeah, added a drum magazine on tne shotgun so I get like 23 shots before I need to reload. It's like god mode. |

I don't have Cait yet, but I'm still barely doing the main story. I keep stumbling over far too many awesome quests.

Been doing mostly Minuteman quests right now. Kinda an easy way to open up the map or so. And of course eliminating raiders is always fun.

Cait's accent is an abomination. I'm drowning in companions, I think I've got 8 now. Why are there so many? Why can't I get any info out of them?

K, nevermind what I said about Cait taking 5 bobby pins to unlock expert locks. Seems its completely random and leans more toward 2-3.
Also, she can unlock master locks. |

Yeah I think it's just a percentage-based check or something. I just had a safe that was Expert and it took her like 8 pins, but other ones she got on the first or second try

Also, I assume they have personal quests but I have no clue about any of them, you can't ask them about themselves, just their thoughts, so do I have to run around with Cait until she decides to talk about something, or what? |

Kind of. You have to do actions that they like (pickpocketing people or lockpicking around Cait, for example) until they, uh... like you enough, I guess, and then they'll have a little monologue with you that sends you on a quest.
At least, that's been my experience so far. Been trying not to read too much into the mechanics of the game til after my first playthrough. |

I've played a lot of hours already and have barely explored any of the map. This game feels huge. I've done a few Minutemen quests only. I got caught up building a couple of big houses in Sanctuary and putting beds in them for some reason, mainly just to see if I could do it. It's pretty awkward trying to build stuff from the first person POV, I wish for the settlement design parts they had a temporary aerial view of the lay-out and surroundings with a point and click style.
The game overall is what I expected plus a bit more, which is a good thing. |

I tried to build a house and cannot work out how to align the doorframe with the walls. There was always a gap at the sides as it would align like, half a square back from the rest of the wall

The doors seem to sit out a bit so you need to try to line them up a bit in front of the walls. I know what you mean because it happened to me a couple of times before i figured it out. I've had more problems trying to line up corners.

I will try it again but I think that would leave half a floor tile uncovered next to how everything else looked. Then I started to think I should just make a solid wall and place a door in it, but that was wrong. I couldn't get the door to line up with a doorframe either
Then there's electricity, I figured out that you stick a connector on a house and then wire a generator to that, but then I was randomly not getting one of the lightbulb a working, I don't know if the generator was overloaded or what. I think the fact that it all seems pointless is what keeps me trying |

So on top of what's already been mentioned that Cait likes, she also like you to be naked. Taking off all armour before fast travel usually gets a like.

If it it's not letting you make a corner, put a roof on. Then the wall will connect properly and you can take the roof off.
