Thing is, though, I was a bigger fan of Joe Bob Briggs, and that was on TNT.

Speaking of, I got a fan mail response from him a couple years back when he first started hosting The Last Drive-In on Shudder. It was awesome, especially since it was mostly me gushing about mom and how she and I were watching all kinds of schlocky shit since forever ago back when he was on TMC (specifically, it related to his "cicada" story on TLDI). The man literally goes through all the physical and e-mail he's ever gotten and tries to respond to all of them. Said he has a fond place in his heart for NE Ohio, since he got his start in Berea, which isn't super far from here.

I’m genuinely curious to see whether AEW’s PPVs go to HBO Max and they mine them for cheap content from wrestling fans because they don’t care where subscriptions come from, or whether this is the slow phase-out. Send them to TBS, let them stew there, “okay this isn’t working, see ya later.”

More interesting than their actual fucking shows.

I've always looked at TBS and TNT as fairly interchangeable in terms of the quality of their programming. Or lack of quality. Then again I hate most television so who knows.

Joe Bob was a far better host but Monster Vision wasnt big for me. c tier horror is only fun when its rifftrax/mst3k

See I'm the opposite. I like to enjoy the stupidity of c tier horror without the commentary over the top. Definitely appreciate mst3k, but I personally prefer a host to make cracks about it in between commercial breaks.

It's easy to see why. I personally love AEW and have yet to see a Dynamite where I thought the entire 2 hours was a waste. TV is almost entirely skippable, once in a while you'll get a banger of a PPV. But they are what they are at this point. They aren't changing and so there's little to actually discuss.

Fuck no. WWE isn't suffering from any new kinds of problems. They've been discussed ad nauseum on here over the last 10 years and it's pretty clear they're not going to change, because frankly, they don't have to.

I'm in the camp that isn't totally sold on AEW, but at the very least, they have the potential to change and right the ship. So discussing my likes and dislikes of AEW feels like a better use of my time, than harping on about the same old WWE issues yet again.

Their ability to right the ship went out the window right as they started producing content. AEW thrives on the positivity and resilience of hardened wrestling fans. It’s provided no indicator that it is capable of delivering what it is people who have tuned out of WWE want from wrestling. That’s why they’ve gone from 1.4 million viewers to 800k unopposed and have found themselves booted off TNT.

This is 100% accurate.

AEW has been on TV for over a year and a half, 85 2 hour episodes. They have made no adjustments to grow their audience whatsoever.

They are what they are, and it's fine, but they have to be past the point where they have any "new wrestling company" buzz.

To quote Fig, but speaking about AEW "it's pretty clear they're not going to change, because frankly, they don't have to."

They have a rich mark who is going to keep funding them, and EVP's who are going to keep stroking his ego to keep him loyal. As fans, we get some good, some bad, but mostly just a bunch of filler randomly thrown together matches that mean nothing.

A year and a half seems like a long time, but it's a drop in the bucket in the lifespan of a wrestling promotion. I'm not implying it's going to happen anytime soon, as you're completely right that they don't need to change right now, thanks to a loyal fan base. That said, they will eventually have to shake up their way of doing things if they want to survive, let alone grow their audience.

I guess after watching NJPW recover from their cataclysmic mma infusion in the early 00's I can believe any promotion can change for the better. The exception being a case like WWE, where the business side makes such an ungodly amount of money that they can produce content for investors instead of content for wrestling fans.

I’m actually say they need to change but can’t. They do not have the mentality too. And they’ve already lost their network. What happens when TBS works out that putting old episodes of Big Bang is going to make them a wider margin of profit? Will HBO Max want those PPVs when they do 40k domestic for Double or Nothing or whatever?

2.5 years might seem like a short time for a wrestling company, but it’s only a drop for the ones that survive. AEW has got the rich backer, but they are getting themselves into WCW 2001 territory, where there is nothing they can do to increase revenue streams.
