He was getting alright reactions at best since he was pretty much instantly exposed as a bad script reader "sufferin sukatash tater tot" and while he can wrestle, his character never does.

Bottom line is he could be better, but he's playing a terrible role on a TV show. and that's all it comes down to.

You are rewriting history to match your bias. He was the hottest rising act on the roster. They were right to push him. As soon as the office backed him it stopped being cool. Here we are now.

I actually am in the opposite camp. Reigns is better in the ring but he has been playing an awful character for years now and his improvement in the ring has come in that same time period.

I am not an AJ fan, but she garnered the appropriate reactions in her role, whether that be as a face or as a heel and was a key character on TV, not just one show, for years. She played her role in both Punk and Bryan's on screen development and was definitely a large part of the evolution of the women in WWE.

Her impact hasn't been massive, but Reigns has been a failure during his whole singles/face run up to this point. Lots of fallen potential in the world of wrestling. Whether it is his fault or not, large sections of the fan base do not like him and even the most positive fan cringed when he came out at 30 in the RR. It was not joy from a fan base that hates him when he was eliminated, it was purely relief that the same mistakes weren't made again.

It's not over anyone's head, no-one is being played...He is just disliked as he is, by the majority of the fan base in the only role he has played since going singles. People don't want to see him win, they don't want to see him lose, they just don't want to see him in his current guise, full stop. This is not the formula for a good wrestler.

He is a natural heel being forcefed to the fan base as a super babyface for years now.

Just because he has had some good matches and a great tag run, doesn't disguise the fact that his character is a mess, and has been a mess, for the majority is his on-screen career, and that is a massive part of what being a better wrestler is.

babyface announcers put him over as a babyface. Everything "on paper" is babyface. If they are purposely doing this, it is insanely stupid because it isn't enjoyable.

He is a face. The Rumble might have taken advantage of the reactions he has been getting. It might even be the seeds of a heel turn (in fact it probably is if he is facing Undertaker), but he is a face and has been the entire time he has been a singles guy.

RAW has been based around him wrestling Owens/Jericho in that combination for months now. Owens is a heel who insults the fans and gets cheap wins. Roman is a face who overcomes the odds and overawes the cowardly heel duo. Raw is not booking round heel vs heel for months.

They had also been pairing him with Rollins, who they were actively trying to cement as a face AND they booked him against jobber squasher and monster heel Braun recently too. The same monster that feuded with super happy face, Sami Zayn

I hope this is the start of a heel turn, because I think that would be great for him, but he is a face and has been this whole time.

In any respect, he is not garnering heel heat. People are booing him because they are rejecting his character and his position on the card. This is not what a heel does either.

Lol, I've literally gone through the Network since the Shield split. So MITB, Battleground and SummerSlam are fin, then he gets injured for the rest of the year and does this



Comes back for the Rumble and gets booed out of the building. So we had 3 months of OK reactions (and wasn't even anywhere near a hot star pop. Summerslam crowd go more nuts for his teammate Ambrose) followed by 2 years of "eh" except for when he snaps at TLC or spears Stephanie. But of course, I'm just revising Romans singles career.

I'm not counting the Shield stuff because hot tag Roman doesn't count. I mean, even then the instruction was to keep him strong. He just has a terrible spin off character from that, he's Joey after Friends.

The dumb thing is, he's got bags of charisma when he's not scripted and had a decent mkveset before SUPERMAN PUNCH SPEAR SPEAR SPEAR. But this is just a TV show so you can only judge him on what's presented. #BringBackLeakee

Reigns is suffering the same problem Ryback had when it came to reaching the next level as a star. WWE foolishly rushed his development and skipped the mid-card part of his rise. They had the chance to correct some of the problems with his recent US title reign but only used it as a prop and just kept repeating the same problems instead.

Made his stardom feel a lot more forced than it should have been and WWE being way too stubborn to realize their plans are not working. Also didn't help Reigns' rise occurred at the same time WWE was fighting crowds over who gets top be big stars and doing their best to wreck whoever the crowd hand-picked.

AJ Lee I feel had memorable stories/moments with Daniel Bryan, Kane, CM Punk, Dolph Ziggler, John Cena, WWE Paige, Kaitlyn, and was great at playing her character, entertaining on the mic and on her frequent guest commentary visits.

Roman Reigns had memorable stories/moments with The Shield. Then once he went singles he really hasn't had any moments that have "stuck with me"..... I know he has had moments, but they are there and then gone in my mind. Whereas I still remember a lot from AJ Lee.

Roman Reigns wrestles a boring move-spam style that has bored me to tears these last two and a half years. If that's what's displayed to me, why wouldn't that be what its judged on? I know he can do better, but when he's all over a 3 hour show and making it somehow feel longer each week because of how he's used, I doubt we'll ever see it.

Mr. Thrilla, please enlighten me as to how you come to your conclusions for better wrestler without considering character and onscreen presentation which are literally all we get to see of them. Do you have access to backstage training videos or something? Did you get to watch these guys and gals throughout their training to see exactly how good they are in every aspect even when they haven't shown it in a public space? Are you magic?

Fact is you can only judge a wrestler based on what you've seen of them, and like it or not character and presentation have a HUGE part to play in wrestling. This isn't a sport, it's essentially athletic acting. The parts you play and the public's perception of you are all part of the gig. I mean if Elvis had only sung jingles for breakfast cereal he wouldn't be so well regarded regardless of his actual talent.

This should be simple concept: The crowd decides if you're a face or you are a heel. Not the office. They have no control over it they can only try and manipulate you into making them one or the other.

Roman starts getting booed for almost 3 years, the office continues to portray him as a super hero because of merch and house shows.

What I'm saying, is you claiming he is heel or babyface is an irrelevant semantical argument. Yeah, the crowd treats him as a heel, but WWE attempt to portray him as a top babyface. He "overcomes the odds" and gets screwed over all the time. Babyface announcers are always talking about what a great guy he is. It'd be different if he did the same act and all of a sudden Saxton and Cole were like "fuck me aren't you sick of this wannabe fonzy character? He does the same damned thing every week and gets booed out of the building" but instead they are like "We hope the heroic Roman Reigns overcomes Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho for the 7000th time".

But that's where his heat comes from. That's the angle. And theyre booking him accordingly. It's their presentation of over packaged baby that gets him heat. But the reactions are manufactured at this point. They're leaning into it. The office is the heel and Reigns is the metophor for the office. They are absolutely aware.


It's a win win senerio. They use Roman to get heat off the smarks while they peddle merch to everyone else who still buys the company line. At the end of the day you're twice as interested in the spoty guys who are "counter culture" (or what you percieve to be counter culture) because they are "overcoming" the office (and their poster boy roman reigns) in true baby face fasion and you're buying their merch in turn. Its meta. The business of the business is the business now.


There is no reason to change course.

#2 but like Destor stated its a distant #2 compared to the machine that is Cena. Then again Cena also gets a ton more merch than anyone else which plays a role as well.

Not sure if its still the case but for a while Ambrose was very close to matching Reigns as #2 with way less help from the WWE during the time. Same for house shows when Ambrose lead shows were matching or surpassing Reigns lead shows even with weaker cards or smaller locations. WWE would legit get more back if they put more effort into Ambrose than what they are currently spending and getting in return with Reigns.
