Room 101 - Tag Teams

So, for this week's podcast we're doing our second show based off the old Room 101 television show, where we're looking for you to submit one nomination for a Tag Team from any point in time that you wish to be banished to oblivion for good, and why you want them in Room 101.

You can be as flexible with the nomination as you like - it can be a certain period of a team's run, or if you really dislike a duo's body of work you can just toss the team in there. You can be obscure as you like in who you choose, it really comes down to the combo that always grinded your gears the most, and your explanation will be key in whether or not the panel agrees on the show to banish your suggestion to Room 101.

As always, the best nominations will be read and you'll be credited accordingly. So who has always annoyed you personally enough to go into Room 101 and why?

EDIT - The show talking Tag Teams that you voted to go into Room 101 is now available at the following link: https://squaredcirclegazette.podbean..._Tag_Teams.mp3

Colossal Connection

Replacing a team that could really wrestle in the Brainbusters, Haku and Andre screamed thrown together from the start. Just because they were both in the Heenan family, the pairing didn't make sense or have any chemistry.

The whole point of their team was to keep Andre going, and he shouldn't have been on TV anymore, never mind wrestling.

The fact that he was so unhealthy and immobile meant that the charisma vacuum, Haku, did literally all the wrestling as Andre tagged in to drop an elbow.

The fact that they weren't a natural pairing, one was extremely immobile, Haku was very boring and they somehow won the titles in an era when the Rockers didn't, is crazy to me.

Final slam of the Room 101 door is the name, The Colossal Connection. A terrible tag team name for an awful team.

The Dynamic Dudes. Not just for the team but also for John's "contribution" to talent relations and the Diva Search Era. Too bad Shane has to be taken into the room for John's crimes but he was a bitch to Jim Cornette once and refused to have a "manager match" with him which started his beef with Ric Flair. Also for throwing the title down and fucking Dennis Corluzzo over. Maybe not too bad for Shane after all either.

Only answer is simply The Harris Twins. Every shitty gimmick they had was awful and never resulted in good matches. The DOA in particular was a new level of shit and stains two of the better years of WWE programming of 1997 & 1998. Throw them in Room 101 so they can never ruin wrestling programming again.

Men on a mission. They never made it anywhere, the only one that made any progress was Mable when he became King of the Ring. Mo was just sort of there. Speaking of Mable he never really went anywhere on his own but that's a story for another time.

Sorry Gert, I know you are an authority here on older wrestling, but can't agree with you about Haku in WWE. After the islanders, he had a really boring feud with Harley Race, wrestled alone as Colossal Connection and then basically made others look good for a year or so before leaving for Japan. His WWE run sucked basically.

...And this was the lowest point. He might have been capable enough in the ring, but he lacked any charisma or real connection with the crowd to make Colossal Connection worthwhile.

No-one could have made it worthwhile, Andre could barely walk...But Haku just wasn't interesting enough in WWE

Also, if we are talking about periods in a teams history, and obvious one, LOD 2000 and LOD 2005 with Heidenreich.

LOD 2000 because anything updated for the year 2000 is always awful. It then led into Droz involvement and Hawks very real struggles being used as an angle, culminating in Droz pushing him off the Tron. It was weird and uncomfortable.

Animal and his massive steroid belly was back in 2005 with Heidenreich to try to further deteriorate the legacy of one of the great teams in history. Very difficult to sub someone into a tag team and make it work, and Heidenreich didn't deserve the name.

I actually came to like Meng in WCW and though the whole wild haired toughman was cool. I don't think WWE had any interest in investing in him or having him do anything decent. He definitely wasn't a king, and while tagging with Andre proved they trusted him, it didn't do him any favours in the longrun

I'd put in the Prime Time Players. Both guys suck individually and teaming them up didn't cover any of the holes in their game. Sloppy ring work, horrible one note promos. I guess you could argue that being with Young made Titus look great on the mic by comparison, but the rather steep downside to that is Titus gets time on the mic and is still on TV.

They were certainly no Slater-Gator.

KroniK. First off, the name was stupid and you could just hear Vince Russo laughing hysterically about making drug references on TV. They were absolutely putrid in the ring. As a team they were only around for the last year of WCW's existence and in that short time they flipped between face and heel 4 or 5 times.

They were eventually positioned as guns for hire in what was a clear ripoff of the APA, continuing a trend of WCW being unable to have an original thought.

For god knows what reason, they main evented Halloween Havoc in a handicap match against Goldberg, where they were immediately squashed and teaming in the midcard with Alex Wright by the next PPV.

Oh and let's not forget being brought in mid-Invasion. They had two matches with the company and then got immediately fired. The Undertaker and Kane worked their fair share of shitty workers over the years and even they complained about how bad their match at Unforgiven 2001 was. Vince McMahon is and always will be a body guy and even he couldn't justify keeping two huge guys like KroniK around after that shitty match.

RIP to Brian Adams and all that, but KroniK fucking sucked.

Yeah, I didn't get a chance to contribute either. There are so many great useless sacks of shit to suggest. Obviously teams like The Harris Brothers pop immediately to mind, followed by The Nasty Boys, but there are some modern entries that deserve to be mentioned:

* Deuce N' Domino. A harmless gimmick and Domino was quite good, but Deuce lived up to his name and they ended the Tag Title run of Paul London & Brian Kendrick.

* The Prime Time Players. This is where I think my vote would have to go. Fuck these guys. I'm sure they are wonderful human beings in their civilian lives, but professionally there are not two more useless wrestlers employed by the WWE. They are TERRIBLE in the ring, and their promos are at their best when they are only slightly annoying. They've had two failed runs as a tag team and multiple failed runs as singles guys too. They have been main roster for almost seven years apiece now. That's 14 years between them to equate to the ring presence of one drunk toddler.

The Quebecers. I hated the Mountie, so 2 of them was even worse. And Pierre was not a great worker in my opinion. So I could do without them forever.

The Mountie was great! Didn't he have a cattle prod?

The Quebecers were amazing. Jaques Rougeau is a ridiculously under-rated smarmy heel and Pierre Ouellette can do a lot of shit for a man his size

They were certainly no Slater-Gator.
I LOVED the PTP when they were with Abraham Washington. It's a shame what happened.

I think back 16 years ago and i'm ashamed of myself for marking out for The Worm. I wish i could go back and punch myself in the face.

Just wanted to thank everybody for the contributions - the show discussing Room 101 - Tag Teams, now available at the following link:

https://squaredcirclegazette.podbean..._Tag_Teams.mp3

Join us as we look to debate which Tag Teams deserve to go into Room 101! Taking your nominations for duos you wish to banish to oblivion, the panel looks at the strengths and weaknesses of teams such as The Nasty Boys, The Bushwhackers, The New Day, Mexican America, Demolition, The Rock and Roll Express, The Ascension, Rene Dupree and Kenzo Suzuki, The ShowGunns, Public Enemy, The New Dream Team, The Natural Disasters, The Legion of Doom, Kronik, and many many more. Oh, and of course, The Harris Boys. We try to separate the wheat from the chaff and dispose of the wretched refuse forevermore. A really fun show this week, check it out and let us know what you think!
