I can imagine Big E. Langston calling his fans "The Langston Nation" or something.

I can't believe for a second that Hogan did any charity work without any ulterior motives, such as, y'know, cleaning up his public image.

I don't think Hogan has ever done anything without ulterior motives.

it's weird. There's nothing about him that screams "upstanding individual" but many people laud his loyalty and kindness.
He's likely a deeply complicated man with positives and negatives... one of the main negatives being he's a fucking racist lmfao. |

I think it's largely nostalgia filtered through platitudes. And there's always been something endearing about the guy. You can't deny his charisma. And there's something "lost puppy" about him. You don't think of him as an actively malicious guy. Then it turns out he's awful and it's like...fine. I mean, wrestling is full of awful people, just like any medium. I just don't see why you'd bring him back. It's not like he can even participate in angles and such. The only role is an ambassador and he's kind of fucked that up with certain demographics that should be very important.
I don't really blame Hogan for trying to get the money he can. I'm more annoyed at the WWE for the faux-PR bullshit. Of course it's what they're going to do, but I just can't support a promotion that so obviously couldn't give a fuck. Hogan will still be more over than the entire roster put together. |

It's kind of hard to completely abandon the guy whose back you built your company on. For business reasons and for loyalty reasons (probably more the former than the latter).

Well I think the "lately" is the fact that there is a lately. Plus, his presence in one way or another, particularly if leveraged correctly, generates some kind of buzz. Esp. with the faux redemption narrative they're pushing.

I was never a Hogan fan and I think that all of this makes him sound like a bit of a piece of shit. Even still, I'm not outraged that he's in the WWE hall of fame. It's a bizarre business, and I'm sure there are countless others that have done far, far worse without being outed. I'm just going to chalk Hogan up as the, err...dickhead that I already assumed he was and hope that he doesn't try to wrestle again. I just like wrestling. |

That's not what they were saying. They were saying that the taking away of the LAST name was akin to behavior exhibited during slavery. Which I think is completely off base. It probably just fits better on t-shirts.

the only difference is I think by making that statement they're essentially calling Big E. his slave name.

I find their statement actually quite revolting and reductive towards Big E but that's just me.

I've always been a proponent of 'it doesn't matter what you say, but how you say it', and he said it in a really shitty way in this instance.

Sure, a lot of them are clueless about the product. This isn't something people with taste watch. It's awful television with plot-holes out the ass. We're a particular brand of nerd and we hate it a lot of the time. They're going to say things that sound really dumb to wrestling fans, but in the broad strokes they are going to be completely correct -- WWE is pretty cunty for hiring back an open racist in order to milk a quick buck from its fly-catching fan-base. They are planning more Saudi propaganda shows. Charlotte Flair is probably not paid as well as Randy Orton despite being more crucial to the WWE's crucial story arcs of 2018 and probably 2019. And that perception can become toxic for advertisers and investors. Maybe not a large scale right away, but social progression has seen businesses drop relationships with the NRA in recent months, and animal rights has led to the closing down of at least one major circus. If enough people say "Fuck it, we're not going to buy Snickers as long as Hogan is employed by WWE," that could soon turn into "Fuck it, we're not going to watch anything on USA or FOX for as long as they keep television deals with Vince McMahon." Consumers are active agents and if the perception of WWE is "Fucking gross, who would support this awful company?", well, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. |

I could see the plan being:
Hogan will ref the match between Brock vs Lashley and raise Lashleys hand at the end... Until Vince changes it to hogan costing Lashley the title. "Think of the heat it will get!" |

It's a cute idea, but the WWE doesn't program for heat anymore. Lashley would "respect" Hogan for costing him the title.

Pro Wrestling Sheet speculating/teasing WWE probably is considering the idea of ending SummerSlam with Lashley defeating Lesnar for the Universal title and Hogan coming out to raise his hand. Idea being to celebrate the 1st ever black Universal champ and help rehab Hogan's image.
WWE claiming Hogan's apology was not filmed nor was the whole thing staged just for a future Network special. According to Mark Henry, not all of the locker room was receptive to Hogan being back. Around a 50-50 split with African American stars on the roster and some furious with WWE's decision. Meanwhile Jerry Lawler claims WWE should have never removed or suspended Hogan to begin with and instead blamed "PC Culture" for making this into an issue. |

I wish they had Big E beat Jinder for the title at a house show and then lose it back the next day just so it would be quiet and there wouldn't be a huge "first black WWE champion crowned" story.
"What about Rock?" "He's not black enough" "What about Jinder?" "He's Indian" |

I love Jerry Lawler as a performer, but I'm pretty sure he's been party to some racist shit in Memphis. And to paraphrase the man himself "The worst part about dating a younger woman is when you have to drop them off at school."

WWE won't do the first black Universal Champion thing. They'll have Lashley win the belt, sure, but they'll present him as another in a long line of proud black WWE Champions. The Rock, Mark Henry, Bobby Lashley, R-Truth (we can pass him off as a former WWE Champion, right?), Finn Balor (black Irish is a thing, right?) and Bobby Lashley. Meanwhile Booker T sits on the panel talking about how jacked he is.

He's pretty much a ticking time bomb of when, not if, his scandals are going to get exposed big time. If he's lucky, the avalanche happens after he's dead like with Moolah and her pimping scandals.
