Rate the Game: Week 148
Yo, what cracking boys and girls? Here we are in the post-20,000 posts era finally. I feel so blessed. You can, of course, bless me some more by heading over to my 20,000th post celebration thread over in casual and showering me with all of the praise I deserve. You've earned it! Here's what else you've earned: another Rate the Game. We're 52 weeks away from ending this run and it's going to be joy bringing them all to you. I'm getting an early start on matters as I'm being cautious because I'm not sure how busy I'm going to be today. That just means we can get down to the business earlier! Like last week's game, A Link to the Past. This brought in a ton of love and some spirited discussion over game design, but the leaderboard has the final say. Here's what it has to say:
Well, thanks a bunch for all of the editing to the list I had to do. The final score for The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past helps make history here on Rate the Game. After all these months, we've got a game that finally cracks the top ten and becomes an elite title on the leaderboard. 4.61 is one hell of a score and it's enough to earn the number 9 spot, unfortunately kicking Portal out of the running as a top ten title. The question now is can it be done again? Can another game left in the bowl get enough praise to join the top ten? Can it do better than A Link to the Past? Let's see what's on tap this week... Rate the Game: Week 148 asks you, the fine people of TPWW, to take yet another look at lovable treasure hunter and adventurer Nathan Drake. It's Uncharted 2: Among Thieves! Is there treasure buried deep within the bowels of this game? How does it fare compared to the original? All these questions and more shall be answered by you! Let's do this shit and we'll see you next week! No matter what may happen to me, just remember Lzzy Hale gave me the bedroom eyes... ...again. Last edited by M-A-G; 09-05-2023 at 11:42 AM. |

Despite being in the middle of the first one, I kind of want to fire up this one and see what's up with it. I've heard tremendous praise for it as my friend is a die hard fan of the franchise.

Solid 4. Big fan of these games.
I feel like these were used as a "template" for other games I enjoy (the Tomb Raider 2013 reboot, 007 games of that time, The Bourne Conspiracy) so that works in their favor. |

Had to edit the leaderboard a bit to reflect A Link to the Past's new score, taking RDD's rating into account.

5. Not a single game at least in the original trilogy that aren’t all masterpieces.

Never played it nor any other game in the series.
Mostly a combo of not owning a PS3 nor having any real interest in playing a guy version of Tomb Raider. To be fair, I didn't bother playing any game in the Tomb Raider series until Tomb Raider 2013 and that is still the only game I've ever played from it. |

Yeah both Tomb Raider and Uncharted borrow from Indiana Jones but I remember back in the day when Uncharted came out that everyone pretty much was just comparing it to Tomb Raider and Nathan Drake being Naughty Dog's attempt at making a male Lara Croft.
Besides not having a PS3, think the other reason why I wasn't interested in Uncharted was due to not being that into shooters and shooter style action adventure games or games from Sony/Naughty Dog in general at the time. |

I remember this series getting progressively better but didn't really like it until 3 and 4. This is the game that made me realize "this is just mass murder, I'm killing museum security guards who have families just so I can locate a cool treasure"

I'm going to try giving this bad boy a spin over the weekend. Granted, I'm not done with the first, but I've done games out of order before so this shouldn't hurt matters, no?

Took me a while to get through the museum level. Finding an opening to nail the guards was rough, but I persisted. Borneo looks great. The whole game looks great. I feel dumb for not getting involved with the series earlier.

2 won a ton of GotY awards. Its set piece design rivals top tier action films. Id argue 4 is just as good but for different reasons.

Like I mentioned before, my friend is all about this series and can't praise it enough. I was bound to get around to them eventually, even without Rate the Game. He compliments it as one of those rare series that doesn't have a dud or black sheep in the bunch. I don't have access to the fourth game as it wasn't part of the collection I downloaded. I could just borrow it from the aforementioned friend. I did buy it for him after all so when you really think about it, he owes me.
