I almost gave up on trying to finish the storyline so many times in San Andreas. Granted, I'd be more hyped if GTAO was available at launch....

...And I'm not standing in line to get this at midnight, but if people really want it that bad, who does it hurt?

Mine'll come when it comes. Probably Tuesday, since I ordered through Amazon, but I'm not losing any sleep. Still, I'm more excited for this than I have been for a game in a while, so I can get the hype.

I don't have a local game store. The closest I have is a Wal-Mart a couple towns over. And a Gamestop in the same town.

Plus, fuck the local economy. What did it ever do for me?

Got in 22 hours over the weekend and it looks like I'm heading towards the end now, unless there's a big swerve. GTA IV was my favourite of all of them in terms of gameplay mechanics, but the story was a little dry. This one ramps up that aspect majorly and it is fantastic.

Should be able to get in another few hours tonight, see if it does finish or not. Done most of the side missions that are labelled on the map (called Freaks & Strangers in this), but other than a few rounds of golf, done very little else. Golf is great, tennis is a bit too stiff to be fun.

Oh yeah, it's great. It gets a pass for a combat as it always bloody does just because everything else feels so right. Love running up to someone and punching them in a one-hit KO. The TV shows are amazing (look out for one called Impotent Rage especially) and the amount of crazy things that can happen make me laugh so hard. Harder than even Saints Row, because it's completely unexpected when it does happen.

Hell, it's worth it just to switch to Trevor. These are the things that I can remember off the top of my head that were happening when I switched to him:

  • Sleeping on the edge of a bridge in just his underwear, drunk
  • Tying someone up under a pier
  • Jacking off into the toilet
  • Raging at people on bicycles in front of him in the road

Hit LT when you see someone pop out and aim in the vague direction of them as it'll lock-on, hit RT until they die, flick the stick left or right to take out the next one until you need to be in cover to reload, then let go of LT. Rinse and repeat.


Punching people feels good though. As do running pistol whips.

Oh yeah, I don't know if it was mentioned in any of the info dumps, but if you fail a mission section 3 times, you can skip it.

I've only done this once. Attempting to land a plane put me back 10 minutes and it wasn't very fun trying, so I just wet 'fuck this' and divebombed twice.

So is it more or less the same ridiculous auto-aim as RDR? I can live with that. Does the camera move more fluidly? I remember cranking sensitivity in RDR to max and it'd take a hour to turn Marston around.

Might be similar to what occurred with Halo 3 when installs became possible on the Xbox 360. Either Rockstar hard coded some stuff for the game or the streaming feature was never designed to run from one source.

The Escapist's Greg Tito gave it 3.5/5. His arguments for the score seem sound, but they mostly revolve around shit I don't give a shit about, like the protagonists being scumbags. Saints Row 2 is still my favourite sandbox game to date (I never played San Andreas, so I can't compare them), and that game sets you up as a major psychopath.
