If Eli Drake starts working NXT, I might have to stop watching Takeovers. Hopefully WWE remember why they cut him all those years ago. Rock fucking wannabe with zero charisma. "E-LI DRAKE! Dummy! Yeah! Dummy! Yeah!" The fuck does that even mean? Shoot him into the sun and watch the world's problems slightly ease.

No, I don't. I literally don't. It's like yelling "Idiot! Yeah!" What does that mean? He's an idiot? His opponent is an idiot? It's him making noises because he's a fucking moron who can't even construct his own catchphrases. It's worse than The Miz's "Hoorah!".

And no, I don't think I would. I haven't watched Takeover Philly, and that doesn't have Eli Drake on it. I'm very capable of avoiding them.

The Miz says hoorah? Don't guess I've ever heard that buy it makes sense with him being in the Marine. Drake is a natural on the mic and would instantly be the best talker in NXT if he came in.

I think being a natural on the mic comes with being able to make choices and displaying good instincts for a promo. He needs to be mowed down and started from scratch as to the psychology of one. From the last I was subjected to of him in TNA, anyway. If he came in, I imagine he'd just do his TNA shtick, because they love fan servicing that niche market, for whatever reason, and he'll do his TNA stuff with a slightly better entrance.

You're allowed to like the guy. I'm not here to kink-shame. But as I said: I hope the WWE remembers why they axed this guy years back and, at 35 years of age, they don't trust his aging firefighter-looking ass.

Gonna swoop in on Smeat's territory here but... Raw dropped down to 3,055,000 viewers this week. Down just about 1.5 million in 2 weeks from that horrid anniversary show. Damn.

So if you take the amount of people that watched this week and halved it -- that is roughly the amount of people who wanted to give this shit a chance but said "Nope." Fucking hell.

It was always a lock to happen because of the very special nature of the RAW 25 show compared to the usual RAWs. The drop between the post-Rumble and this week is more of the typical range considering the post-Rumble and post-Mania shows are usually the highest RAWs of the year.

The real issue is them getting very close to hitting a sub 3 million number on the Road to Mania and 3rd hour going under 3 million just a week after the Rumble.

They have maybe 3 weeks at most to pop the number to post-Rumble levels before Mania (post-Chamber, go home Mania, and Ronda's RAW debut).

It's hard to explain what caused the second hour increase, although the first hour was lower than would be expected for this time of year.

The three hours were:

Quote:

Currently there are 8,000 tickets sold for Elimination Chamber on 2/25 in Las Vegas at the T Mobile Arena, so it won’t be close to a legit sellout.

Quote:
Cena is releasing a children’s book called “Elbow Grease".

Quote:
Miz just signed a new four-year deal, locking him up through 2022. With the fans turning Strowman face, the only other big heels on the RAW side are Samoa Joe and Elias. Sheamus & Cesaro have been headlining the house shows as the biggest heels on the card. The Smackdown side isn’t much better for heel depth with Mahal, who was demoted, and Corbin, who they expected to be a superstar by now and hasn't happened at all. Mahal and Corbin's failure to catch on as major stars is why Sami Zayn has ended up being a top heel with Owens for the blue brand.

Quote:

Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship
AJ Styles vs. Shinsuke Nakamura for the WWE title
Shane McMahon and a partner vs. Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn
Ronda Rousey and a partner vs Triple H and Stephanie McMahon or Ronda Rousey vs. Charlotte Flair
Alexa Bliss vs. Asuka for the RAW Women's Championship
The Miz vs. Braun Strowman for the Intercontinental Championship

are the current major matches they are planning
*First time I've used that site as a source, bought a 'day pass' since they claimed to be 'legit'...ya never know...

As of last week, the plans were Charlotte Flair vs. Asuka for the Smackdown title and Bliss vs. Jax for the Raw title for WrestleMania. However, on TV this week, Angle said that if Jax beats Asuka on the PPV show, that the Mania match would become Bliss vs. Jax vs. Asuka. Last week the idea was that Asuka hadn’t said which title she would challenge for, nor would she until after the Chamber match. This week Angle outright said she was in the Raw title match. Whether that’s a change of plans or they were looking to throw the fans off scent, isn’t clear. They could do a disputed finish with Asuka vs. Jax, because Asuka beating Jax and then Bliss vs. Jax stemming from it, while it can be done, doesn’t seem the best way to do it. Jax beating Asuka to end her streak before Asuka faces either Flair or Rousey makes even less sense.

Jason Jordan’s surgery was a posterior cervical microdiscectomy, to decompress the nerve issue that caused the problems. There was no report on a return date but we’re told that Jordan vs. Rollins at WrestleMania is not a dead issue, but it’s far from a certainty.

Spoiler tag used since its related to possible Mania plans.

After retiring in 2015, Deeb wrestled twice in the Mae Young Classic last summer. PWInsider reported last month that she was at the Performance Center after previously being spotted in Pittsburgh, which they noted was possibly to undergo medical testing ahead of returning to WWE in some capacity.

"The offer presented itself initially almost a year ago," Deeb said. "It was pre-Mae Young Classic. I knew of the tournament and was aware of it, and then I was contacted by the company to see if I had any interest in being one of the talent in the tournament, but it was also coupled with the idea of potentially coming in as a coach following the tournament."

"The tournament was the first stop on the tracks, and following that, I came back in a week in the fall for an official coaching tryout, and following that, it was pretty quickly offered," Deeb said.

The subject of Ronda Rousey's contract was probably the biggest news outside of the financial figures covered at the WWE investors call this morning, along with strong hints regarding multiple suitors for the television deal that expires in the United States in September 2019.

Paul Levesque said that they are finalizing the Rousey contract right now and that it was a multi-year deal. WWE will be her priority and will be the first option on her schedule. He said that Rousey wants to be part of the DNA of the WWE ...

As far as the numbers went, WWE produced more revenue in the fourth quarter, at $211.6 million, than ever before, but overall profits were down. WWE profits for the quarter were $4.8 million, although that was largely due to $18.9 million in income taxes in the quarter. In 2016, the quarter generated $194.9 million in revenue and $8.0 million in profits, but the tax was $4.8 million.

For the year, WWE produced a record $801 million in revenue and generated $32.6 million in profits. In 2016 they generated $729.2 million in revenue and $33.8 million in profits ...

The decline in profits was due to a one-time charge of $11.3 million from the enactment of a new tax law, $10.9 million of which was a non-cash charge due to the remeasurement of deferred tax assets and $400,000 regarding foreign earnings.

However, Donald Trump's new tax law change will greatly benefit the company in 2018 and lead to a significant increase in profits. It is a virtual lock that profits will finally break past the pre-Network numbers in 2018.

So while profits were slightly down this year, normalized they would have been up, although still below pre-Network years ...

In the fourth quarter, there were declines in profits of arena events, largely due to running two fewer shows and mostly due to a significantly less successful European tour. Also down were profits in arena merchandise and a slight decline in WWE Shop profits even though revenue in that sector was up.

On December 31st, the WWE Network had 1,065,000 U.S. subscribers, 406,000 subscribers outside the U.S., and 76,000 people getting it for free, for a total of 1,547,000. One year earlier, the Network had 1,033,000 U.S. subscribers, 370,000 subscribers outside the U.S., and 70,000 people getting it for free, for a total of 1,473,000. The outside growth was due to it being available in more places ...

During the fourth quarter, there were 413,000 people who dropped the Network and 377,000 who added, for an overall decline of 36,000. Last year's fourth quarter saw a decline of 41,000.
The most interesting thing from the entire report is WWE's profits still have yet to reach pre-Network levels which shows how much of a money drain its been to the company and why all those free sub offers are not helping. Trump's new tax plan is likely going to be the only reason why the next fiscal report will be able to post a pre-Network level of profit.

The service will go into effect just before the annual Champion Carnival tournament, which take place between 4/7 and 4/30. There are combined tickets and such to help Smackdown in particular and the expectations right now are about 8,500 for Raw and 6,500 for Smackdown. The house shows coming up this weekend in California don’t have strong advances. The one thing that is different this year from the past is that January through end of March is the season, where everything is up. But this year the house shows have been well below expectations and the Raws seem that way as well

It was explained to me that the key in all this goes back to what made Vince McMahon a big star, which was the program with Steve Austin, and what made Steve Austin a breakthrough star past being a pro wrestling top guy, which was hardly an interview at King of the Ring or the WrestleMania match with Bret Hart, as legend has it, but the angle in Fresno with Mike Tyson.

Rousey is a major sports star. The idea that she was the single most searched female athlete in the U.S. on the Internet in 2017, a year she never competed and for the most part laid low in, speaks volumes. The idea for the program is to make Stephanie a star outside of just the pro wrestling world.

It having one of the biggest growth years of any promotion in 2017. It's far from its glory years (obviously), but it's trending in a good direction, and it's got plenty of room to go before it hits a ceiling, and its classic footage will only help with that, provided they can get it onto a streaming service.

You fucking cunt.

Impact usually does voiceovers on Wednesdays for the episode that airs the following night on Pop TV as a way to keep them as fresh as possible. When Borash informed Impact he was leaving for WWE, only last week's episode had been voiced over. Last night's episode was done with Mathews and Dutt this week. Thus, Rey's debut was canceled. That explains why we heard travel was set at one point. There was hope of trying to get him to debut in April at the TV taping, but with Mysterio making it clear that he and WWE are in a courtship phase of trying to work something out, he obviously won't be coming into Impact unless something falls through with WWE. The big sticking point with WWE and Rey is that they want him back full-time, but he, at 43 and with an infinite number of knee surgeries under his belt, wants to work part-time.

I think for a Hall of Fame where the person is voted in by a (mostly) impartial group of voters, yes they should be able to choose who inducts them. But that isn’t what the WWE Hall is. It’s a company event where they choose who gets inducted. People have a voice in who want to induct them but the final decision rests on WWE. I understand that too as this is their feel-good celebration event of the year and they want to have a degree of control over how it comes across on the Network. Yes, they are very micromanaged, but they always have been.

We have gotten a few questions on how the NWA is able to use TNA/Impact footage on their videos. There is some sort of working relationships between the two sides stemming out of Anthem's settlement with Billy Corgan last year. The two sides have mad multiple meetings about how Anthem and the NWA can work together, but Corgan has had those discussions with lots of other companies as well.

Fraley had sued TNA Entertainment, LLC so it does not appear that current owner Anthem Sports and Entertainment was on hook for the judgment. Fraley International, which handles importation of merchandise from overseas, had sued over money owed from shipments of TNA merchandise being brought to the United States after they were produced in the Far East. In Aprill 2017, attorneys representing Impact in the case withdrew as their representation and after receiving permission from the Chancery Court in Nashville to allow them to do so, citing lack of payment. From that point on, Impact never responded or appeared in court during the proceedings, making the case pretty easy for Fraley to win. There's no word what Fraley won or whether they ever actually collected the judgment.

Hogan wanting $750,000 for Wrestle Kingdom is crazy but also believable

I dunno, Karl Anderson apparently used to get $750,000 a year. If you had a choice between Karl Anderson for a year and Hulk Hogan for a night, it's arguable that Hogan for a night would be more valuable to a company trying to get some attention in the US.

Probably not Hulk Hogan now. Too old, and too much of a has been. He's still a legend and can perform in his own way, but Karl Anderson can fulfill dates and be a workhorse... he may not be a draw but you need that consistency. He can shine your big stars night in and night out because he's pretty good.

Hogan's reach is no longer enough where he can show up for a night and garner that much attention. Most people think he's a joke at this point.

Now if you could get Hogan to play ball and utilize him properly on a consistent, then he'd probably be infinitely more valuable than a "mechanic" like Anderson.

Its just too expensive for a one time appearance considering how small their yearly profits are. Last year they made around $34 million in revenues but net profit was only a few million.

Also if Hogan's time in TNA/Impact is any indication, he likely won't promote the company after his appearance and/or try to get all his buddies deals as well. Think when Hogan was in TNA, he ended up talking more about WWE than TNA in official interviews.

Dirtsheets sponsored by The Villain's Disapproval of the length of tonight's sheet news:

SPOILER: show
Rumor goign around the net involves WWE currently considering two options for Kurt Angle at Mania. One involves him & Ronda vs Triple H & Steph while the other option is Angle vs Rollins. In regards to the mixed tag match, Strowman is currently considered as the backup option if Rock is unable to be at Mania and WWE still wants the match done.

In regards to post-Mania plans, Observer reported WWE is seriously considering the idea of pairing Paul Heyman with Reigns. The idea would be for Heyman to cover for Reigns; lack of promo skills as a top star and as a backup in case Lesnar really does leave for MMA again.

Another post-Mania rumor involves Heyman being paired with Ronda Rousey to help with her promos and as a backup plan for Lesnar

WWE Network has been adding new episodes of World Class Championship Wrestling in an effort to fill gaps that exist in the current run of episodes. WWE has at times sought out private collectors to track down content that was missing from the actual library they acquired.

However, the decline of profits is misleading as there was an $11,284,000 charge, a one-time payment arising from the enactment of the new tax law, of which $10,878,000 was a charge due to the re-measurement of deferred tax assets and $406,000 associated with reparation of foreign earnings. So normalized, the profit margin would have been $43.4 million, the best since 2010, about the time WWE started spending money to start the network. It has come slower than expected, and the growth in profits wasn’t because of the network, as predicted eight years ago. The original predictions of $150 million to $250 million in profits and three to four million subscribers by this point aren’t close to happening and the latter won’t happen for decades, if ever.

For the year, profits on the WWE Network rose from $36.9 million to $57.3 million. The company profits about $3.12 per month per paid subscriber, up from $2.17 in 2016. The increase has been cutting back when it comes to some programming as well as cutting back on the number of PPV shows. Those numbers are actually not completely accurate, because the network division includes actual PPV revenue. In 2017, the company took in $14.2 million from traditional PPV on 16 shows (about 950,000 buys for the year), up from $12.6 million the prior year on 15 shows (about 850,000 buys for the year).

While again not official, within WWE the belief was that, because of having to fit the top stars of both brands, that the former B shows will be increased an hour with two match pre-shows and four hour PPV shows. They will have both shows specifically pushing the same PPV every month and all the top stars would be on it. The negative is a lot of the middle and lower card acts won’t be on PPV as much, if at all. And if they’re not on the PPV, they’ll be focused on less on television ...

It also makes having separate champions in each brand feeling even sillier since the key title bouts will be on shows with the other brand’s title also defended. You’ll have two women’s title matches and two tag title matches on most shows, along with two world title and two secondary singles titles and a cruiserweight title (which is likely to almost never be on the main PPV shows). There will be title matches relegated to the pre-show, hurting their significance. There will be less place for non-championship matches, and to get the top stars on the show, likely more multiple-person matches. Also, there will likely be more matches on the shows meaning less time or more rushed matches. So there’s good with the bad. The biggest complaint on WWE PPV shows has been the length of the big shows, and now every show will be five hours long.
Supposedly WWE is considering those multi-man matches to be mainly for their big stars not in title matches. Would be another big hit for the undercard.

That's actually really terrible for the net gain and a lock WWE is likely never hitting their lofty target goals they were expecting to have hit by now for subscribers.

Going to be really expensive to buy out Dunn from the company assuming Triple H & Steph get rid of him in the future.

The thing with Jericho was that when he wasn’t wrestling, he’d be doing music or television but nobody thought he’d be doing pro wrestling since he’d made it clear he would never wrestle anywhere but WWE. Obviously that ended up changing because he saw the opportunity for the Omega match, but he had never wrestled anywhere but WWE and presumably was not going to do so, except there were flirtations with TNA many years ago according to those in TNA, but that’s the period he was gone for a long time and not the current period.
