Let's talk about Michael Cole (c/o Vito)
This started in the 100k thread, but I think it could be a thing on its own so let's do it.

As far as Cole lending WWE a more "stable" presentation: Let's just say "better."
I'd like to see WWE cut their ties with Bradshaw and bring Mauro in to do play-by-play, at least for SmackDown. Tom Phillips for Raw. Not his biggest fan, but he's there, I guess. And Jim Ross for monthly PPVs. Ideally. |

I'm a big Tom Phillips fan. Let him run with it on RAW. I like Mauro enough, but I think he's better suited for NXT.
Can we move Saxton elsewhere while we're shuffling. I think he's horrendous - though I do like how much Graves shits on him. |

Outside of rare moments, he's been pretty terrible for years as a lead announcer although not entirely his fault. Also has been a terrible replacement for JR as the main lead announcer for the WWE.
I'd argue pairing him with Graves has done more to hurt Graves overall quality than it has helped. Same for his grooming to be the next main lead announcer. |

He's "meh" for me now that he's not actively doing a heel gimmick. That was the pits. We all know the main reason is that he isn't supposed to just be a play by play guy, he's an active participant in selling the product. If he were allowed to just call matches as they were I'm sure he'd be fine but nothing great. Overall I'm OK with him as the lead announcer on Raw and I think he gets entirely too much shit from people.

I have Michael Cole and Mick Foley doing voice over of the Showdown At the Shea event from 1980 at Shea Stadium in my collection and Cole/Foley were fantastic.

I remember loving Michael Cole's commentary when he was a heel. Especially during Daniel Bryan matches. I'm a Bryan fan, and Cole's rants about him were hilarious and made the matches that much better when Bryan would show you just how good he was even with the lead announcer shitting all over him. Was awesome. Wrestling needs more heel announcers.

Cole is okay. Just okay. I don't think anyone is better at being the lead announcer in the WWE but okay is what he is.

Cole is what you call "cultured and molded" talent. He has no personality that is his own creatiion, he does whatever the higher echelon tell him to do and says what they feed him in his ear. He has no ability to go off the cuff and call it as its happening. They need to just go back to two announcers on each show. I would love to see Corey Graves and Tom Phillips call Raw and Mauro Ranallo and Booker T call Smackdown.

Cole is pretty bad and he has been since 2012 when he stopping being a heel. His work as a heel was probably his best stuff and it was really refreshing at the time. Now, it's just so obvious that he's Vince's parrot. Vince tells him to say something, he'll say it and he makes it so obvious too. He doesn't have any authenticity in his delivery.
Tom Phillips on the other hand, does. I like Phillips and I really hope he doesn't end up like Cole, but he probably will, which is a shame. Grave's has his moments and most are good, but he does have the same problem JBL had, in that he has his moments where he just shits on the colour commentator for too long at time until at the end, it's either just him yelling/complaining or a back a forth child-like argument between him and the colour commentator. Finally, Booker T & Byron Saxton are just awful. Both shows really don't need a third voice and Booker & Saxton are prefect candidates to be the ones the take the drop from the table. Most times when Booker talks, he makes absolutely no sense at all and often he flip-flops on his opinions and allegiances and the number of times he contradicts himself is so crazy that it's not normal for a healthy human brain to reach those numbers in such a short period of time. If he's not doing that, then he constantly grunting down the mic or making "HNNNG!" noises like he's trying to push a shit out of his ass. Saxton is a different type of awful. He doesn't really have a voice fall calling matches as it's a bit annoying and lacks any authority, the latter being evident when he has his arguments with Graves or when a heel does something a heel does. The best comparison I can think of is Marge Simpson and I'm surprised he hasn't called someone "buster" during his arguments/rants. As for his one liners, they're just awful and cheesy and they sound like something you would hear on a show aimed a kids between two and five. Personally, I think the duo of Phillips and Graves is the way forward and whatever show doesn't get that can get the duo of Mauro Ranallo and Corey Graves. |

Could you imagine the shitstorm if they removed Booker and Byron from their positions? Or do you think people would be able to understand that it is totally a question of quality (or lack thereof) and nothing to do with ethnicity?

I'd say Book and Macho Man are equally as inane on commentary.

Everything he says comes out as this insincere shill
He annoyed the shit outta me when he was a heel but I hated who his character was this weasely dick Nowadays it feels like they just wind him up to do commentary .He was never gonna fill JR's shoes but. He's just so disconnected and he literally has stock phrases that he pulls out on every single show. I really hope they arent training Graves up to be another Cole. I keep hoping that there will be another JR, meaning someone who actually calls the action and cares about what's happening. But I think that's a pipe dream at this point. |

I don't usually venture into this kind of area as it mostly always starts arguments, but these days, it feels like you've got to have someone who isn't white involved and/or a woman and if you don't, then you're wrong and in some cases, a piece of shit. A recent example of this was at the Golden Globes last week when Natalie Portman said "And here are the all-male nominees". It's stuff like that that makes big names/companies shit themselves and add non-whites/women to things regardless if they're good for the job or not, because if they didn't, their name/brand would get savaged. If we stay with the nomination thing as an example, if a woman was added to that list for equality reasons and the guys at the Golden Globes were asked why she was added, they can't say "Because she's a woman" because there would be outrage that she's a token nominee, but if she was added because she was good but didn't win, there would still be outrage that she didn't win and claims of "she didn't win because she's a woman" would surface and so on. Natalie Portman doesn't seem to realise that maybe this year there were no female directors that were good enough to fill the five spaces. They were the five best directors according the the Golden Globes and for all we know, the sixth best could have been a woman. It's getting to the point now that white people are being told/forced to feel bad for being white and men for being men. God help you if you're a white man. It's all getting a big ridiculous now. We should all just chill out. |

I loved how in 2011 Booker's Fave Five on any given episode of SmackDown seemed to contain 19 people.

I feel like the Fave Five was casually brought up a few weeks ago, but it may have just been Corey Graves making fun of it.

I love Booker T. His stupid quips are the only entertaining things for long stretches of Raw.
I'd probably hate him if I liked what was happening on he show. |
