So do people just like it because he talks funny and says odd words? Like, what is cool about him talking to a gardener, calling porn "literature," and using the word "paramount?"

It wasn't just liking it ironically just to go against the grain... the gimmick also had an advantage of being both an intentionally laughable trainwreck AND the most entertaining shit in TNA compared to what the company was doing themselves.
I'm hoping Jeff does return to being Brother Nero in original context, where he actually changed up his moves and was more like Matt's heavy/lackey, but I'm sure that even if he was, he'd be back to shirts off and jumping off shit inside two or three matches. I also hope that they teleport/time travel (which was a thing in #broken canon - it's how they vacated their TNA titles and ended up being able to challenge The Bucks of Youth) and end up in SRW to challenge for the Tag Titles in the 80's so that they can continue their pursuit to become the greatest tag champions in all of space and time. |

Yeah, that's the thing with shit like this. It reminds me of when I used to deliberately write shit short stories in high school thinking I was a bad-ass like a Chuck Palanuik or something. It's called 15-year-old boy syndrome, and it's frowned upon in every single art form you can find, because people usually grow up and see it for what it is.
Doing something to intentionally be bad is actually just bad. If you've got it in you to do something good, do something good instead. Stuff like The Room and John Waters' old campy movies got over because they weren't trying to be bad. It's a rule of camp that there's a sincerity to it. The thing is that the WWE has the largest budget in the world, so there's no way this can be kids trying to get over in the backyard sincerely. These are grown-ass men with arrested development. I think this Broken stuff says something about the state of wrestling. I really do. When someone shits in your mouth and you think it tastes good, what have you been eating all this time? If wrestling were good then people wouldn't be marking out for someone taking the piss out of it and doing everything they can to make it look as bad as it can to be "different" and "refreshing." |

The sad thing is that Jeff Hardy can actually be a star. He's proven that time and time again. And now that there are only hardcores, and they are so dulled by wrestling, they're not going to let it go if he doesn't fuck around as "Brother Nero" (Get it?!? He's Matt's brother and his middle name is "Nero!") for a good few months of his remaining good years.

After that, they knew it was shit and leant into it, but because the roots are in this awful, but hilarious character, that still has come out. I've not watched the Raw segment yet, but I get your point as to why this can't be pulled off within the confines of WWE and I totally agree with you there. This needs dramatic drone shots of House Hardy and be filmed using handheld cameras with outtakes left in such as Matt trying to roll out the ring in that contract signing video. They need to just give Matt an end goal and permission to film 10 minute segments. With how bad the rest of Raw is, it won't bring down the average quality no matter what he sends in. |

I don't think the Matt Hardy part was bad, it kind of explained it to the crowd while not boring those that already know of it. Crowd popped for it and there was laughing too, just dumb to do this cutwith a Wyatt promo.
I'm mostly curious if this just becomes a WWE character or if he does get segments of all the out of the ring stuff. After the New Day/Wyatt and the House of Horrors match, I think Vince really does want that kind of segment on his show ESPECIALLY with Bray.... I just think it will be as shit as those things. |

Yeah, I'd have preferred if it had just been Matt. Seemed odd to have Bray talking about what a madman Hardy was before he'd even done his first crazy promo.
Still, I don't think it was bad. Hopefully they just let these two come up with their own shit for this program. If nothing else it'll be more inspired and thoughtful than most WWE booking. |

I like that he explained why he's now WOKEN in a way that actually makes sense rather than them just arbitrarily picking a word that rhymes with Broken and never addressing it.

The thing is that one worked and the other one isn't going to. And the answer is "No. Not everybody can win. That's life and performance-based business. Deal with it."

Noid if you aren't entertained by it then don't watch. It's that simple. You are turning into a reverse Cynick, bitching just to bitch. It seems to me from the way the crowd was popping for it that they want to give it a shot. You're the outlier here.
Some people can laugh at this crap and get enjoyment out of the absurdity of it. It isn't our problem that you can't. |

It was an L.A crowd. L.A are a pretty "smarkish crowd" so it was pretty much a safe bet that they would go crazy for it. That's probably why they chose to debut it now, as Raw would be in L.A. If they chose to debut it at a Raw that was in a place that didn't have a "smark crowd" then it probably wouldn't have got much of a reception, which would have lead to other crowds not giving a fuck about it and then the gimmick falling flat on its face and dying. By choosing L.A and getting the reaction it did, other crowds will most like be into it a bit more now and do the whole stupid "Delete Arm Thing" and so on. |

Yeah, I'm not impressed by the mindset of these crowds. They fall for the first attempt at a finish in a match, chant "You deserve it" at Naomi and are dwindling in number. I find it odd I am called an outlier when most people aren't watching. Most wrestling fans aren't watching. Most people who watch Raw, statistically, couldn't possibly know what this is. That's who are in these crowds.

Funny thing is, the Bray Wyatt vidoe already has 900,000 views, which is almost more than any Broken Matt Hardy video has ever gotten. Be careful what you wish for...

I don't think it's supposed to be BAD. I think it's supposed to be over the top. I also think Noid's problem seems to stem from the fact that it's presented with wrestling that doesn't match up with the "world" it exists in. Which is debatable. But wrestling sucks now. So I can just watch whatever Matt's doing and not give a fuck about context.
If I were to watch a full Raw now, I wouldn't be thinking "What is this weird Matt Hardy shit doing in the middle of my wrestling show?" I'd be thinking "What is this horrible wrestling show doing interrupting my glorious Matt Hardy skits?" |

Just wondering, Noid: did you really miss the point of my posts, or are you just trolling because you want to hammer home without a shadow of any doubt that you don't happen to be a fan of the #broken business?
Pulling two random "fighters" - one of whom is a total work of fiction, and another who is a flesh and blood UFC fighter and loosely bridging them because "fan of fighting" isn't exactly the same thing as comparing two movies. A better one - and one I would have made - would have been to say that if I were that "fan of fighting" I like both boxing and mma. Either way, you seem way too perplexed that people could like a thing you don't... and yes, I'm the same person who has never been super high on HHH or never saw the supposed value of Eva Marie in any capacity; that people who like the Broken Matt do so just to be contrarian and/or edgy as there is no other conceivable reason for anyone to find it endearing or entertaining in any way. |
