Jericho is possibly the best all-rounder in the history of professional wrestling. Can wrestle so many different styles and has thrived in roles both serious and comedic in both face and heel alignments. And he constantly reinvents himself and found a way to become one of the most entertaining guys on the roster despite approaching 50.
Andre is the bigger legend, but Jericho is the better wrestler. |

Jericho was also never put in the position to draw too much IMO. The one chance he got as THE FIRST Undisputed champ was all about Stephanie putting herself over, which she loves to do, ruining the Jericho/Hunter feud which would have been great.
Him and Michaels did well with their main event feud though, but Jericho didn't get much after that. |

Y2J is a Mount Rushmore wrestler. Second best all around wrestler behind Kurt Angle. But Y2J was around wayyyy longer.

Andre the Giant is one of the biggest draws of all-time. Jericho is a fantastic wrestler, but never drew money. You can make excuses for him it all you want, but he didn't have the gravity to be a main eventer in 2001/2002, by his own admission. Jericho has seemingly pieced more together now, but it comes towards the tail-end of a career. His 2008 run was tremendous, from a critical perspective, but Andre had years of being money everywhere he went.
If you were starting a promotion from scratch and you had the option between an Andre the Giant or a Chris Jericho, you would rather have Andre working for you. You want to make money. |

Jericho said he wasn't ready because he doesn't want to upset the wrong people.
Jericho is also just better to watch than Andre. |

It's not always who drew more. Some guys are better but didn't draw.

There are occasions where I could go with someone to be a supplementary player over a draw if you've already got other people in your ideal roster or something, but the goal of wrestling is to make as much money as possible. If you are not making money, you are not really hitting the notes you are supposed to.
I would have agreed with your point about Jericho not wanting to upset the wrong people a few years ago, but going back to to this period, you can kind of see him overwhelmed in certain roles. That might be the wrong word, but he's not exactly bulletproof like top stars of the time were. Andre was also a great wrestler. It's not some schlub against Jericho here -- it's a legitimate Rushmore wrestler. Andre should only be beat by someone who changed the business. |

Saying Andre was a better wrestler than Jericho because he was the bigger draw is pretty much in line with a shoot I saw from Al Snow a while back where he said Hogan/Andre was the best match of WM3, not Steamboat/Savage because in his mind, the best match is the one that gets people to watch and buy tickets no matter how the actual match is from a work rate standpoint.
So it's all a matter of what you value most. I don't own a promotion, so I don't really care who draws the most money. Wrestling is entertainment and Jericho has entertained me thoroughly for most of the two decades I've been watching. |

It's a HUGE factor to me. Steamboat/Savage from WrestleMania III owes a lot to Hogan/Andre drawing people in to give it that crowd to help it stand out so much. You run Steamboat/Savage on a show that no one gives a fuck about, then just how mythical does it become? How many matches on Velocity would have been considered 4-to-6-star classics if they had just happened in Japan?
Steamboat/Savage also probably had more buzz about it than almost anything Jericho has ever done, frankly. Hogan/Andre was definitely the "bigger" match, but Steamboat/Savage was no non-factor. Just pointing that out, because I feel it is a false analogy to make. |

I will say, Andre is on Mount Rushmore whereas Jericho is not. But that's for being an mfing trailblazer. I will just watch any jericho match before any andre match.

If you ask me who is the better wrestlers the first thing im alaways going to ask myself is who scammed the most poeple out of their money. Because thats what being a wrestler is.
Did Hogan/Andre scam the most poeple that night? Yeah. Did they scam the most people long term? I dunno. If you put both matches up for .99¢ I bet you sell more copies of Steamboat/Savage over 20 years by a wide margin. It's fluid. |

I love Jericho, but Andre is the greatest spectacle in the history of professional wrestling and is, was and always will be the better wrestler. Sorry Chris

I didn't say that it was. I said that some trains of thought are illogical. That was specifically towards Vito's analogy. As opinion saying that you connect more to Jericho or whatever, that's cool.
