Seth does not know what to do outside of sweep range. Crouch there and wait for him to spam that 'magic roundhouse', it could be punished with a sweep. This works on Medium and probably Hard. His throw beats everything, and he's just annoying from far away. Stay at the sweep range and he regresses into a slobbering AI fool. That is all.

The only person I had trouble beating seth with was Dan. Everyone else was firstor second try. I've found that playing a more aggresiv style with the shoto characters warrents great results(almost got a perfect with sakura) and playina more defensive, poking game works better with almost everyone else.

In classic cases that boss character returns in a sequel fully playable and balanced for the public. Nowadays bosses are created with playability in mind from the start, but they still don't fit the core characters meant to be options in the actual fighting game. Seth is the latest in this trend. He's playable, but his priorities break the game. We're only keeping the play space clear and competitive. If needed, we may have to cuff Gouken as well, but some play time is needed. |

I don't think there would be any need to cuff Gouken since there's plenty of holes in his overall game. He seems pretty mild.

played roxer again, after a day of training with Abel and C.Viper. Still lost, but did a lot better, keeping it close til the end of the match. I may end up maining one of those two, as I'm kind of bored with the shoto characters outside of Gouken, and I suck with Charge move characters.
One of my biggest problems right now is nailing ultra combos with te 360 controller. Would have possibly won a match with Crimson Viper, but she did the EX Seismic blast instead. I can hit it in training, and against a low level CPU all day, but in the heat of competition with a human player, I almost alwsays hit the EX forward, down-forward move instead. Not only do I not hit the ultra, but I waste a super gauge box. Suckage. Is it any smoother with the arcade stick? |

If I can say one thing bad about the game, it's that the animated cutscenes are godawful. There is very little closure in any of the endings.
And Gouken has just been lying unconcious somewhere for the past 10 years? lol what? Abel's backstory turned out to be a fairly neat twist. I will say that. |

Just treat online like practice for when you play locally. That's what I do. I basically treat my matches with roxer as evaluation on what strategies I've developed work, and which ones don't.

You get good playing real people, not AI. Real people throw you curve balls way more often than AI and it forces you to get better.

But on the subject of AI, I would like to also state that I'm a little disappointed when Street Fighter has a final boss shades of SNK or--dare I say it--Mortal Kombat. By that, I mean I just got teleportspam/multihityuken/sonicboombsonicboombsonicboomed for about the thirtieth time, and finally decided to just turn the fucking system off and walk the fuck away. Good job making a generic piece of shit spam ass stupid shit piss dick balls fucking boss that makes me stop playing the goddamn game, Capcom, totally disregarding how hard it is to get through Arcade on anything but Easy with Vega. All that work didn't mean shit, I'm not fighting Seth a thirty first fucking time. God fucking damn. |

Face Buttons: (X) - Weak Punch (Y) - Fierce Punch (A) - Weak Kick (B) - Roundhouse Top Buttons: [LB] - Mid Punch [RB] - Mid Kick Triggers: {LT} - Focus Attack {RT} - PPP Now Khuntri may remember that my face buttons are SNK/Vs. fashioned and my Mids stay up top, but SF4 forced me to alter my triggers from the usual PPP/KKK set-up. With the importance of Ultras (life savers in many cases), I had to make a decision to make them more viable during gameplay. My PPP was on the left trigger (during the PS2 days), but I put it on the right trigger for 'instant-kill' access. This means I do my KKK ultras manually with all three kick buttons. RoXer can attest that this isn't a problem for me. The big draw with my set-up is the left trigger being used for Focus Attacks. For a time I used the top buttons for Focus Attacks, but they're too important to rely on pressing the two top buttons together (not to mention Focus Cancels and such). Being that I no longer need a KKK button/trigger and I rather not conprimise my old face button set-up (I tried, much too used to it), I put Focus Attacks on left trigger. The first time I fought RoXer he blew me out. We went at it a little while later with me on the above config and my game changed dramatically. Much more give and take now. Quote:
Good for you. Did it with Sakura m'self. I'm playing her more than I care to admit, but I won't be adding her to my stable (Cammy would get jealous). RoXer pulled out some Gouken action, he's definitely not over-powered (unless RoXy is holding back). |

Yeah finally got friends to play last night and we didn't stop for like an hour or two. Way fun, and it pretty much confirmed the fact that I suck really really bad. I'm still trying to figure out my button configuration on the 360 controller. I am prone to never use the left bumper because of it being on the D-Pad's side. My brain can't give that many commands to my left hand it seems.

Oh, OK, I thought you meant in the white camo/suit outfit, but I understand you now. Just please tell me you knew this without having to watch one of those god-awful beginning/end-of-Challenge Mode cutscenes. They are unbearable, and I always just skip past them.

So anyone got any advice for a beginner player to this. Never been too good at fighting games and I do enjoy the gameplay of this... except I suck. I can pull off a few moves as Ryu/Ken but can only really scrape past the computer and when I come up against opponants like M Bison tend to fail repeatedly.

Practice mode is your friend honestly. Street Fighter is 20 years in the making so the people who are good have played with the base mechanics of the game for that long. Learn ranges, the supers/ultras/focus attacks. Figure out if anyone has any standard moves that combo well and fight what type of character you like. Sounds like you like Shoto's, Sakura and Ken are captain combo so give them both a try.

Yeah, my only real experience is Street Fighter 2 briefly on the Mega Drive and Alpha 2 on the PSOne and I was too young to really get past the whole button mashing thing.
I've only started playing it today so I guess it is understandable that I suck at it. I'll just have to keep trying it is justa bit jarring when even on the easiest computer difficulty I get my ass handed to me. |

That's SF though. You have to learn to juggle and combo moves up. You also have to learn if you like grapplers or shotos or whatever. Plus like I said, the guys who (especially) are good with Ryu and Ken, have been good with Ryu and Ken for 20 years. It takes a lot of time to learn the frame ates of a lot of moves too.

Also, and I stress this the most. If you can't hit a move every time you try it, you don't have it down and it's going to get you killed. I have friends who say they have the ultras, etc down. They can hit it 4/5 times, or whatever. That turns into 2/5 times when you're actually playing someone who is going to press you, and they will punish you when you miss. Don't try something unless you can do it everytime.

Aye I think I'll take that on board.
I was at least able to make it through the Arcade Mode on easiest and unlock Sakura so there is some progress. Seth was quite cheap until on the final battle I managed to just keep him in a corner and spam Heavy Kicks. I do like the Ken/Ryu/Sakura type characters but I'll have to experiment with the others on there. I also tried hopping online and got my ass handed to me three times. Starting to get used to blocking a bit more though and also when to jump to avoid an attack. The one problem I have is timing my own attacks which'll come with practice. What I'll probably do is stick it in training mode and just keep practicing blocking/dodging. |

I really cant see this being that much fun online, its a game that DEMANDS fast reactions and quick button presses, most games are more forgiving of this but for something like SF i can't see it working that well. =/

Unlocked Gen after the perfect against Seth. I had a quick spin as him in a fight against a CPU opponent and he seems pretty good. I'll have to use him in training first before I get good enough with him to play against others. Is his name pronounced as "Jen" or is the G prononced the same way it is prononced in the word "Gun" but with an e instead of a u? Last edited by Drakul; 02-23-2009 at 08:22 PM. |
