Gail Simone has been let go, via email, as writer of Batgirl.

Interestingly, when a follower tweeted at her, "Did you not put enough women in refrigerators or something?", referring to her coining of the phrase about the treatment of women in comics (Kyle Rayner's girlfriend was murdered and stuffed in his fridge). Simone simply replied, "Funny you should say that."
I've always enjoyed Simone's work, and I follow her on Twitter and Tumblr because she is one of a few creators who actively engages with her fan base. And not just in a passing, 'I'm only responding to this because I feel obligated to', sense, but one in which she often writes lengthy, well-thought-out and sometimes argumentative posts about her thoughts on gender and social issues in comics. Can't help but think that maybe the DC brass stumbled on to one of her more openly critical posts, maybe.
