WWE does similar things once in a while as well.
Had a recent one involving Ryback and think it only got revealed because of a trademark lawsuit they had against him. Turned out the WWE never bothered to trademark his name and certain slogans till around the time of his release. By that point, Ryback already owned them since he filed his requests around the time he started to have serious problems with management.
