I would have been fine with Carolina/Atlanta, actually. It's obvious that NBC didn't choose it because it would be 2 shit teams, but that was the only 100% do or die for both teams with no debate. They flexed the NFC West game in 2010 which wound up being a bad division, and then Dallas running the NFC East gauntlet from 2011-13. IIRC in all 4 of those years it was winner advances, loser goes home.

Even San Diego/Kansas City wouldn't have really worked because I believe KC is last in line in the AFC. If Baltimore or Houston won earlier in the day the game wouldn't mean anything for KC other than trying to fuck it up for their division rivals.
