I dunno if you got a guide handy, but going after a bunch of the "big yellow dot" fish is good.
If you come across a pond with bunch of those or big blue dots, just fish it out.
Also, swing into Altissa and hit the battle arena and try to win the reel. It's a godsend when you go after "the monsters".
