According to PWinsider, Dolph Ziggler was originally penciled in to face Bobby Roode at last night’s WWE Royal Rumble, but over the course of the weekend, the decision was made to bump him up to the Rumble match. He is scheduled to work tomorrow’s WWE Smackdown tapings.
Apparently WWE also considered Adam Cole to be Roode's opponent at the Rumble but then quickly realized how bad this idea was. Avoided having Cole's main roster debut be in a throw-away match and also suffer a useless loss.

There was a feeling that Cole did not need to lose to Roode in under 10 minutes, so officials made the decision to switch Cole's spot with Mojo Rawley. Mojo ended up losing to Roode on the Kickoff pre-show while Cole entered the Rumble at #23 and lasted 6 minutes & 52 seconds but had no eliminations. He was eliminated by Rey Mysterio.
