Well, Rita and Zedd did turned human in the end of In Space. It could be something that they wanted to bring into the original Series. They simply decided to push that sort of story for Andromeda.

If True, I'd say Lord Zedd could be the original Red Ranger. People said earlier that Red Ranger suit looks very similar too. They might have fallen in love and Zordon saying "fuck that noise you are Jedi..I mean Power Rangers." They went nuts cause they couldn't get married because of Zordon turning them into his slaves.
