Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is slated to take place in Marvel Cinematic Universe continuity, and given the high-profile of the Marvel Studios films it was heavily expected to get a series order. The pilot, filmed earlier this year, was directed by The Avengers' Joss Whedon, and co-written by Whedon and his frequent collaborators Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen. The show stars Clark Gregg, reprising his role as Agent Phil Coulson; plus Ming-Na Wen, Brett Dalton, Chloe Benne, Iain De Caestecker, Elizabeth Henstridge and J. August Richards, reuniting with Whedon after his 2000-2004 stint on Angel.
