It looks like Joe lifts his legs above Rollins' knee then falls back and on the way down, his leg lands on Rollins' knee causing the knee to take the force of being knocked, but also all the weight of Joe and Rollins' own weight.

If Joe would have waited until Rollins was perfectly in position, this wouldn't have happened. It looks like Joe fell back a bit early.
I get what you're saying here but Joe catches Rollins on the left leg in the scenario you describe and it's his right leg that is injured if you look at the twitter pic of his leg wrapped up.
