It was a strong night overall for cable TV viewership as, despite the big jump from last week, the show failed to crack the top 10 in overall viewership, finishing at number 11. SmackDown did top the 18-49 demo, as it usually does, with a 0.77 rating. Miz and Mrs., which follows SmackDown on the USA Network, did 1.235 million viewers overall and posted a 0.50 rating in the 18-49 demo, tied for third place.

SmackDown was down nine percent from last year's post-SummerSlam episode, the 10th straight week the show has had a year-over-year decline.

CMLL announced today during a press conference that Tetsuya Naito, BUSHI and EVIL will make an appearance at the Friday 8/31 Arena Mexico show. They will be taking on the team of Volador Jr., LA Park and Dinamate Azul. Although Naito and BUSHI have made appearances for CMLL in the past, this would mark their first time they are coming in as a group. It would be EVIL’s first time appearing for the company.

In addition to the LIJ announcement, CMLL also announced that The Briscoes and David Finlay will compete in their CMLL Gran Prix tournament on October 5. Four more foreign wrestlers will later be announced on their talk show, Informa.

We are told that of late, WWE has made overtures to talents and behind the scenes staffers who have been working for MLW, which airs nationally on BeIN Sports, in attempts to bring them in. Wale being used last night wasn't a coincidence and was seen as an extention of those efforts.

While everything is still up in the air, the odds of MLW running another Walemania event over Wrestlemania weekend (which was the plan for next year in New York City) are not looking good at the moment.

Lawler noted that in his final conversation with Brian, which was recorded by the jail, and that Brian had about how bad the conditions in the jail were and that none of the things that had been stated would happen in a previous meeting had not. That was 10 AM in the morning. The call was only allowed to last 15 minutes and they were cut off.

Several hours later, Lawler's fiancee received a call around 2 PM advising them that Brian had gotten into a fight with another inmate and had been "acting a fool" but everything was fine and he had been stitched up due to a cut over his eye. They later learned from witnesses that that account they were told wasn't what really happened.

Later that evening, Lawler was called by a Deputy Sheriff and told, "Mister Lawler, I'm sorry, but your son Brian has hung himself in the jail." Lawler said that based on everyone they've heard from and spoken to, none of it adds up and they still haven't received any answers and "it just doesn't jibe."

In regard to a rumor that has been making the rounds, there was no version of this week's Raw script that featured any appearances by Brock Lesnar. He was never, actually scheduled for Raw (despite the fact that the company advertised him all the way to the night before the show) and flew home Sunday right after the PPV on a private plane.

One story that has floated online is that the Triple H promo on Raw replaced a Paul Heyman/Brock Lesnar promo, but based on WWE Creative sources, that was never the case. As one source told us, if they needed a Brock-related promo inside the ring, they could have simply had Paul Heyman (who was indeed at Raw) cut the promo in front of the live crowd. Instead, they taped the Heyman-Kurt Angle vignette.

The only major change to the Raw script that we have heard of was Dolph Ziggler wrestling Dean Ambrose when the original idea was for Drew McIntyre to face Ambrose. Beyond that, the script remained the same most of the day and the HHH promo was always in there, designed to be a "local promo" to push the Super Show-Down Australia event.

"It was a lot of what [Triple H] started to do at NXT, which NXT – for those of you who don't know – started off as our develpmental show, and is now really evolved into a third global touring brand in and of itself and is one of the most watched programs on the WWE Network," said Stephanie. "But my husband started to recruit elite athletes, men and women, and he started training the women same as the men and giving them the same opportunities, because – like anything else – repetitions is how you are gonna get better.

"So at our live events that we do, our local live events, which is where, non-televised, our talent often learn the skills. That's where they hone the craft, the live audience gives a reaction, and that's how you learn what's working, what's not working, and worse, what they don't care about... so he started giving them those opportunities, and them our audience responded in kind. Because these women were so awesome, and they started chanting, 'this is wrestling' and 'women's wrestling'."
