I like that he isn't exactly a lunatic beyond saving. He's at the edge, but still aware enough that he needs help. Don't even just mean mental help, but actual confidence and trust in people even when doing exactly that is pretty much always beyond his "better" judgment.
My only gripe about the series as a whole is just how goddamn lucky he is. There have been so many times Frank's been saved not by his own instincts or training, but because someone is a shitty shot or the right person happened to show up or happen to do something that works in his favor.
It would be one thing if he were a mutant with probability manipulation, but if he were, he'd be on the X-Men side of things and this show wouldn't exist.
