Nah it's not that. Pretty much the second he retired he went into bitter mode. Said Coughlin was a terrible coach and that Eli would never be capable of winning the big one. Then the Giants won the Super Bowl the next year without him.
More importantly though, he cheated on his wife (who was 8 months pregnant with twins) with a young NBC intern. He got fired and I'm pretty sure he only came out of retirement because she took all of his money in divorce and child support proceedings.
