- Couldn't find a thread for it, maybe I'm dumb. But holy fuck! |
Looks like it could be alright
Who is his fat friend supposed to be..... hopefully not there just for superfluous exposition/comic relief....... why would they not just do Harry Osborn...... unless that is supposed to be him..... Is that chick supposed to be Mary Jane? I hope Iron Man isn't in this movie much. |
Ok, fat friend is "Ned Leeds", and the chick is "Liz Allan"........
|
Looks great. Im sold.
Going dark on this one till release. |
No idea why they are calling the fat friend Ned Leeds when the character is clearly based on Miles Morales' best friend Ganke.
|
It is curious they don't have Harry but I guess they're saving the Osbornes for later.
|
I should hope so. We've already had two versions of Harry, let them go in another direction for a little while.
|
Also, please, please, please don't rehash Uncle Ben's death.
|
It looks good but not great.
|
Him foiling the Robbery looks cool.
It looks, exactly as said above, good but not great. I kind of wish Iron Man wasn't in it. |
YEAH!!!! This looks amazing!!!!
I can't wait! I hope we get loads of Iron Man/Spider-Man interaction coz that stuff looks fun! In fact, this being in the MCU and the prospects of having MCU characters in it, gives it such a fresh feel from the previous five Spider-Man movies! Ah man I can't wait for this!!! |
Quote:
I feel like the "different direction" is represented enough with him being even younger and with the "high school" setting..... |
So there's plenty of time for Peter to meet Harry/Mary Jane/etc. in the sequel?

Watched this trailer a few times now! Aw man this looks amazing! Spider-Man is one of the characters I particularly love outside of costume, especially in the early days of the Ultimate line. There were issues where it was just him and MJ chatting, and I totally dug the dialogue. I'm loving the Stark/Parker banter in this trailer, I can't wait to see more of this.

I dunno if it's the Marvel fanboy in me or not (I do love DC btw) but "that's not a hug, I'm opening the door" and "let's stop staring before we look creepy - too late, losers" just resonates with me so much more than "I didn't think you were real - only when I need to be" or "is she with you? - I thought she was with you"... or any attempt of humor in DC films.
Obviously it's more to do with the writers of the script, but the humor in the MCU films is always so much fun, whereas DC's always seemed forced and a bit flat. |

Welcome back Peter. You've been missed.
|
Already better than the amazing Spiderman which I still have no clue why it was made.
|
I'm probably in the minority, but i have not liked any of the Spiderman movies. I think they've all been bad. And i'm not sure the character transfers to the big screen tbh.
|
Looks amazing. I honestly can't wait for this one. Really felt like an actual adaptation of the comics, especially during the Peter Parker scenes. The robbery scene was also great. Really love this Spidey's starstruck kid deal too. It just feels right.

Marissa Tomei, yes please.
|
With new characters I would sooner see Miles

Trailer looks good, really dig that suit. |
Looks very good this far. Keaton looks to be a homerun.
|
Keaton's playing a guy who has beef with super-rich superheroes. :)
|
Seems silly to spoil so much in the trailer...feel like I know the 'entire plot' now...
Still looks great, just kind of annoying. |
Feels like we saw the 1st act to me *shrug*
|
Dunno, feel like it gave away "enough" to the point where I wish I didn't watch it.......
|
Keaton looks awesome, looking forward to this.

saw the trailer and it's like the whole plot of everything lol but it's a Marvel movie so we can kinda figure it all out tbh anyway |
wonder if that fat, brown guy is ganke from ultimate spiderman.
|
It is apparently
|
No, it is "Ned Leeds"......
|
But basically Ganke. The MCU is not shy from using expys of known characters. Hope is basically an expy for Janet in that universe.
|
Just dawned on me that if the MCU wanted to play with the old reveal that Peter's parents were Agents of SHIELD they could totally do that now.
|
If the TV series makes it that long. I think they are on the chopping block but they could have tied it in with this year's finale to help boost ratings.
|
Slightly misleading title, but still found this humorous.
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/utwtY5D_XPk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Stopped paying attention to trailers/news/tv spots about this after that trailer gave away way too much.....
|
If it helps, the video I posted seems to be an advert for something. Not quite sure, but don't think it's a part of the film. It could be, but the "trailer" bit of the heading does seem misleading.
|
So Tom Holland is possibly going to appear in Venom as Spiderman. Venom & the Black Cat/Silver Sable movies are a part of the MCU now.
|
If the movie eventually happens I really hope Tom Hardy doesn't back out.
|
The idea of a MCU/Sony shared universe brings us a step closer to the X-Men possibly joining the rest of Marvel's characters one day, right?
|
Hm, from what I've heard Sony's only "lending" MCU characters like Spiderman.
Not really sure how that works exactly, though. |
Apparently the big wig overseeing the Spiderman stuff days the new movie, and the upcoming venom and black cat projects are all in a shared universe
|
Tom being in the Venom movie, shockingly, be very strange and raise a lot of questions about canon.
|
they didn't confirm he would be in those movies, but I guess Holland did an interview where he said they are building up the world around his Peter PArker with the Venom and Black Cat movies.
|
Early impressions are really great for the film. General conscientious seems to be Top 3 Spider-Man film of all-time and one of the best comic/super-hero films ever.
Only problems seems to be the early part of the film being weak and some not liking it being lean or skipping origin-related stuff. |
I can't see it being better than Spider-Man or Spider-Man 2...... but I hope I am surprised.
|

|
...exactly what I thought.
|

Then in terms of general comics/super-hero films, its up there among the best ever. |
Which would suggest that 1 & 2 are up there amongst the best ever, which I don't think is the popular consensus.

I think you're all reading into it way too much. :p
The main thing... this film is gonna be amazing!!! :D :D :D |

However, it was a very odd way to express praise on the movie. |

Because I love doing a bit of research I looked into it...
There are 5 comic book/superhero movies in the IMDB Top 250, none of them are Spider-Man 1 or 2. In terms of the top rated comic book movies both films hit a 7.3 which puts them as 32/33 out of 65 movies. On a Rotten Tomatoes Top 50 Superhero Movies of All Time editorial Spider-Man was #17, Spider-Man 2 was #12 A Film4 Top 30 features SM2 as #2, but SM1 doesn't feature. A Top 23 written for The Telegraph has SM2 at #10, SM1 doesn't appear. Ranker.com has 2 at 9, and 1 at 16 in their Greatest Comic Book Movies list. Cinemablend has 2 at 10, and 1 at 15. (2016) Empire has 2 at #6, SM1 at #22. (2015) Games radar has SM at #17, with SM2 at #10. I'm not going to contest that they're bad movies, especially 2 which would be in contention, but if you can't decide if Homecoming is better than the first Raimi movie then it probably isn't consideration for "one of the best comic book/superhero movies ever made". |
Not sure how any of that is an authority. Adjusted for inflation the 3rd highest gorssing super hero movie of all time is spidey 1. The 4th is spidey 2. This are hugely popular movies.
|
Commercial success =/= best ever.
Regardless, I'm not denying the success, nor the quality (at least of the sequel). Still a stupid/nonsensical way of describing the quality of the movie. |
As to how it's an "authority"; the first 2 examples are based on a consensus of voting by moviegoers and critics, who feel there are dozens of comic book/superhero movies that are better than both films.
We're both in agreement that they (well, at least the 1st one, and that's the crux of the "argument") don't crack our "best ever" lists. |
They dont crack mine that we can agree.
|
Looks like the producers of Venom have clarified the MCU/Venom/Spiderman stuff.
http://ca.ign.com/articles/2017/06/2...ascal-confirms So they aren't an indirect part of the MCU, and doesn't look like Tom Holland will be apart of them. For now lol. |
Never cared for the original Spider-Man. 2nd was good but I enjoyed the chemistry between Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone far more even though those movies were meh.
Looking forward to this one tho. |
I loved the first two Spider-Man movies, so they will be tough to beat for me.....
But it is all subjective, so who cares what movies people are saying are better than other ones, or how other people rank things...... |
Completely dismissing meta-critic sites and professional reviews because I'm my own authority or movie review and the only real objective metric is talks like this is money earned, and even that is based on something as nebulous as a movie having decent release date or how the marketing helped. So you rarely see me talk about shit like that.
Having said that; Spider-Man 2 is one of the greatest superhero movies I've ever seen, maybe the best in my estimation. Not necessarily my favorite, but in terms of tone, wonderment, sense of virtue, action, and other things I believe a superhero movie in general requires - it nails it hard. Through the board. And while Iron Man set the specific tone of the MCU, Raimi's Spider-Man movies generally laid the blueprint of the 'emotionally cored, character driven, comedy + action, holy shit normal people wanna watch comic heroes now' formula. And Spidey 2 was the zenith of this series. So while I dismiss most reviews that aren't my own, I also can't ignore a comparison to a movie I consider the best of the sub-genre. If they're ignoring Amazing and talking the Raimi stuff as direct comparison, my eyebrow raises. Being that the MCU taking the piss is still them dropping an entertaining movie (Dr Strange, sorry), they almost brilliantly excused themselves from the burden of competing in the superhero genre in the traditional sense. They have the advantage of being a macro-series that, I think, 'forces' people to see these movies to continue this... Movie Show. Ten years of canon at over 20 movies is nothing to scoff at. So even if Homecoming is so-so, and we hear it's so-so before buying a ticket, we're still gonna watch it. Long form binge watching that will forgive filler and meh episodes so long as we get the good ones. |
So, apparently Peter Parker was in Iron Man 2. He was the little kid with the Iron Man mask.
|
I read that. That's a neat little thing they decided to connect

I love this kid more and more each update on the movie I see.

My Cousin runs a theater and just posted this:

Null for placing Amazing Spider-Man over Spider-Man.
|
(Not really. All are entitled to their own opinions)
|
ASM is underrated imo. I think ASM2 was so bad people retroactively poo all over ASM

This was fantastic.
Should be my automated response for marvel movies. |
Saw it last night. So fucking great. Even better than I was expecting honestly. At first I still couldn't say it was necessarily as good or better than Spider Man 2, but less than 24 hours later, I'm leaning that it is just as good if not potentially significantly better.
|
Doc ock vs spidey is still my favorite fight in a superhero movie, but beyond that, this was better.
Props for actually making the vulture of all people, badass. |
This is the first time they have told an authentic spider-man story to date and im a die hard mark for spidey
|
So far I'd say it's:
1. Homecoming / Spiderman 2 2. Spiderman 3. Amazing Spiderman 4. Amazing Spiderman 2 / Spiderman 3 I might have to give Homecoming just a slight edge over SM2 just because it's most recent and tied into the rest of the MCU, but yes, Spidey vs Doc Ock was also amazing and enough to keep it REALLY close. |
I liked it a lot!
Very funny/light-hearted but with lots of characters + you really enjoy rooting for Spider-Man. Michael Keaton was a good villain too. |
Barring a huge dip in sat/sun numbers S-M:H will Sony's 2nd largest opening weekend ever coming in behind S-M:3
|
Quote:
|
I remember being pumped got SM3. Had so much hope.
|
Marketing determines opening weekends. Quality determines the rest. With SM3 they had a strong lead in with 1 and 2...add Venom to the mix and you have a box office juggernaut.
|
Saw it last night I FUCKING LOVE this Spider-man they nailed it in the casting.
Vulture.... Keaton is sooo damn good I found myself trying real hard not to root for him. |
Just saw it..... thoroughly enjoyed it..... the best representation of Spider-Man to date..... but saying that, I still like the first two Sam Raimi ones more.
|
8/10. Solid.
Michael fucking Keaton. |
Gonna go see this TOMORROW!!! Can't wait!!!
|
I thought it was good, not great. I love Spider-Man as a character. I love the MCU. For me this film ranked towards around the bottom third of MCU films. For me, and having watched them again fairly recently, Spider-Man 1 and 2 far exceed this film.
There was a lot of good parts. Tom Holland and Michael Keaton were great. Stark and Happy added some good stuff and didn't take over the film. The fact that he's a rough the edges Hero , and that because the Avengers and co exist he's not really a big deal is all great. He's awkward, doesn't like heights just yet and really is just trying to find his feet. I loved all that side of Spidey. However, all of his classmates were horrible and I hated pretty much everything with Ned, Flash, Michelle and the rest of the decathlon team. Liz was fine, if a bit plain. Ned in particular was so cringeworthy and probably the worst comic relief character in the MCU. I wasn't a huge fan of the overabundance of tech in his spidey suit but it wasn't a massive hinderence to my enjoyment of the film. |
I wasn't a fan of all the tech in the suit either.... hoping it gets toned down in later films, although there is no logical reason for it to unless he has a falling out with Tony Stark.
I just don't want to see Spider-Man going around talking to his AI, we already have that in Iron Man. |
I liked it. I'd put Spidey 2 over this still but this movie will loved to be an MCU movie.
Ned was cool. With 'Karen' Peter has his Team Spidey. The last gag with May was great. He better wear that new suit in Infinity War. I knew Zendaya was a Mary Jane expy. Not 100% on the 'insufferable activist' gimmick but I like her edge. It just made her put of place in certain situations. She doesn't seem like she'd join a science club thing. The Cap PSAs were great. |
Loved it! Vulture was very well done, with great motives. I loved the "they make the mess then get paid to clean it up" angle. The way they implemented Chitauri technology into it all was cool as well. Excellent chemistry between Tom Holland and approximately everyone. Loved the "what the f..." at the end, and the "friends" that Mac Gargon (oooooh yeah) was referring to definitely has me excited for a potential Sinister Six-type group.
|
Just saw this. Don't have to gush. You people already know. Okay, a little. ^_^
"... I thought that was the anti-gravity gun?" Feels weird that I was the only one in the theater who got a nerd boner over Damage Control and recognized that's who they were supposed to be before the news report reveal. I couldn't share. Shoots down my hope for some kind of show, but hey, it actually exists in MCU now, so that makes me happy. So I'm still holding out hope for some Alpha Flight love. I can safely say I wasn't the least bit... "disappointed". :shifty: |
