going by my "who would I rather watch" metric, I'm going Jericho.

Destor 07-13-2017 03:12 PM

Jericho never drew a dime. Andre.

Rammsteinmad 07-13-2017 03:13 PM

Chris Jericho.

GOAT.

Andre drew more, but I wouldn't say Jericho didn't draw a dime.

Evil Vito 07-13-2017 03:15 PM

Jericho is possibly the best all-rounder in the history of professional wrestling. Can wrestle so many different styles and has thrived in roles both serious and comedic in both face and heel alignments. And he constantly reinvents himself and found a way to become one of the most entertaining guys on the roster despite approaching 50.

Andre is the bigger legend, but Jericho is the better wrestler.

Ol Dirty Dastard 07-13-2017 03:17 PM

Jericho was also never put in the position to draw too much IMO. The one chance he got as THE FIRST Undisputed champ was all about Stephanie putting herself over, which she loves to do, ruining the Jericho/Hunter feud which would have been great.

Him and Michaels did well with their main event feud though, but Jericho didn't get much after that.

Ruien 07-13-2017 03:20 PM

Y2J is a Mount Rushmore wrestler. Second best all around wrestler behind Kurt Angle. But Y2J was around wayyyy longer.

Mr. Nerfect 07-13-2017 03:21 PM

Andre the Giant is one of the biggest draws of all-time. Jericho is a fantastic wrestler, but never drew money. You can make excuses for him it all you want, but he didn't have the gravity to be a main eventer in 2001/2002, by his own admission. Jericho has seemingly pieced more together now, but it comes towards the tail-end of a career. His 2008 run was tremendous, from a critical perspective, but Andre had years of being money everywhere he went.

If you were starting a promotion from scratch and you had the option between an Andre the Giant or a Chris Jericho, you would rather have Andre working for you. You want to make money.

Ol Dirty Dastard 07-13-2017 03:23 PM

Jericho said he wasn't ready because he doesn't want to upset the wrong people.

Jericho is also just better to watch than Andre.

Ol Dirty Dastard 07-13-2017 03:24 PM

It's not always who drew more. Some guys are better but didn't draw.

Mr. Nerfect 07-13-2017 03:31 PM

There are occasions where I could go with someone to be a supplementary player over a draw if you've already got other people in your ideal roster or something, but the goal of wrestling is to make as much money as possible. If you are not making money, you are not really hitting the notes you are supposed to.

I would have agreed with your point about Jericho not wanting to upset the wrong people a few years ago, but going back to to this period, you can kind of see him overwhelmed in certain roles. That might be the wrong word, but he's not exactly bulletproof like top stars of the time were.

Andre was also a great wrestler. It's not some schlub against Jericho here -- it's a legitimate Rushmore wrestler. Andre should only be beat by someone who changed the business.

Jericho has never been afraid of saying something someone shouldnt hear

Evil Vito 07-13-2017 03:37 PM

Saying Andre was a better wrestler than Jericho because he was the bigger draw is pretty much in line with a shoot I saw from Al Snow a while back where he said Hogan/Andre was the best match of WM3, not Steamboat/Savage because in his mind, the best match is the one that gets people to watch and buy tickets no matter how the actual match is from a work rate standpoint.

So it's all a matter of what you value most. I don't own a promotion, so I don't really care who draws the most money. Wrestling is entertainment and Jericho has entertained me thoroughly for most of the two decades I've been watching.

Destor 07-13-2017 03:38 PM

Your reasons are your own. I'll dispute facts but not reasons.

Mr. Nerfect 07-13-2017 03:43 PM

It's a HUGE factor to me. Steamboat/Savage from WrestleMania III owes a lot to Hogan/Andre drawing people in to give it that crowd to help it stand out so much. You run Steamboat/Savage on a show that no one gives a fuck about, then just how mythical does it become? How many matches on Velocity would have been considered 4-to-6-star classics if they had just happened in Japan?

Steamboat/Savage also probably had more buzz about it than almost anything Jericho has ever done, frankly. Hogan/Andre was definitely the "bigger" match, but Steamboat/Savage was no non-factor. Just pointing that out, because I feel it is a false analogy to make.

Yeah, it's fair enough to vote for personal enjoyment or whatever. I just find some paths of thought kind of illogical.

Ol Dirty Dastard 07-13-2017 03:47 PM

Noid, saying Jericho is better than Andre is not illogical.

I will say, Andre is on Mount Rushmore whereas Jericho is not. But that's for being an mfing trailblazer. I will just watch any jericho match before any andre match.

Destor 07-13-2017 03:50 PM

If you ask me who is the better wrestlers the first thing im alaways going to ask myself is who scammed the most poeple out of their money. Because thats what being a wrestler is.

Did Hogan/Andre scam the most poeple that night? Yeah. Did they scam the most people long term? I dunno. If you put both matches up for .99¢ I bet you sell more copies of Steamboat/Savage over 20 years by a wide margin.

It's fluid.

Ol Dirty Dastard 07-13-2017 03:52 PM

interesting take, I like it.

Nicky Fives 07-13-2017 03:54 PM

I love Jericho, but Andre is the greatest spectacle in the history of professional wrestling and is, was and always will be the better wrestler. Sorry Chris :'(

Destor 07-13-2017 03:58 PM

Unrelated rant:

SPOILER: show
While we are bsing about the Andre/Hogan match something has been bothering me for like 3 of these but is off topic:

Silverdome is without a doubt Hogan's peak. Wether you use the WWFs number (93,000) or the arenas (78,000) he never passed it.

Ric Flair headlined in front 190,000 in N. Korea in the largest draw in the history of the busiess. So fuck off with "JYD was more over" bull shit.

Ric Flair is the biggest draw of all time. Period.

Ol Dirty Dastard 07-13-2017 04:01 PM

Don't say that to Gertner, biggest fucking Vince mark there is.

Destor 07-13-2017 04:03 PM

Ric Flair isnt on the Wrestling Mt Rushmore. That's because its carved in the side of SPACE MOUNTAIN.

I didn't say that it was. I said that some trains of thought are illogical. That was specifically towards Vito's analogy. As opinion saying that you connect more to Jericho or whatever, that's cool.

Ol Dirty Dastard 07-13-2017 04:31 PM

trusay

Ol Dirty Dastard 07-13-2017 04:31 PM

in saying that, I expect a Giant victory due to his impact on wrestling.

I dunno, I've been enjoying watching some Andre matches, and Jericho has had some dull performances. ANY Andre match versus ANY Jericho match is just where I differ here. But I do agree with your Mount Rushmore assessment.

Jericho's off to a really good start, to his credit.

Ol Dirty Dastard 07-13-2017 04:35 PM

I was hyperbolizing. Any Andre vs Stan Hansen match worked.

Mr. Nerfect 07-13-2017 05:15 PM

Yeah, I shouldn't have taken it so literally. Fuck I love Hansen.

Is it still considered drawing people when they are forced to attend the event by the North Korean government?

Destor 07-13-2017 05:49 PM

Why wouldn't it?

BUTS IN SEATS. $$$

Bad News Gertner 07-13-2017 06:38 PM

Andre by a mile.

Jericho is just a leech.

Those North Korean fans were forced to attend.

Until Flair came to the WWF, Koko B Ware was more recognizable in Canada/North America than Flair.
