Niko was in GTA IV, not SA.

GTA IV was a recent title, set in a modern, contemporary world.

Thus, assuming it's a "modern day" GTA, V will not take place too far away from IV, in terms of time period.

On the other hand, it's still stupid to say he couldn't have aged that much, because people who live hard lives look the part. And since GTA was "Realistic" in IV (i.e. sluggish and gritty but in no way actually realistic), they could have done the "realistic" (Sluggish and gritty) thing and made him age 90 years in a couple of real years.

Not that I actually think it's Niko. I wouldn't mind him being impoverished and on the streets, though.

Especially if he's a character I can slowly torture for being even more cardboardy than that hobo sign he's sporting.

Or as Fan Gerl would call him, "The most realistic character ever."

That's because Fan Gerl also has the personality of an Amazon.com box.

Fun on the outside, boring on the inside? :shifty:

The best part of this thread are the merged posts from both Official GTA V threads.

Of the entire trailer we are stuck with short essays debating on if the homeless guy was really Niko. I blame Hasney.

DAMN iNATOR 11-07-2011 12:31 PM

Wouldn't mind if it was, but it might make the most sense, if we're going to have multiple protagonists, to have Carl take up the majority of the story, since it's his hometown.

Clunk

DAMN iNATOR 11-07-2011 12:35 PM

LOL, I better be able to break meters and take their change as a way of collecting money "drops".

Requiem 11-07-2011 12:35 PM

Approximately 1 in 3 Kane Knight posts in this thread contain bitching about GTA IV. Another 1 in 3 are jabs at people.

Just can't believe that you think what you're doing is anything other than the pointless discussion you're attempting to criticize.

Requiem 11-07-2011 12:41 PM

Actually, credit is due. It is different. Your commentary is more like what you're accusing the discussion of being, where-as the discussion you were bitching about isn't actually that pointless and you were using hyperbole to exaggerate it.

You can in Saints Row.

Of course, they have that whole immersion-breaking "fun" thing going on....

That, or looks ok on the outside but has the personality of whatever is inside her?

El Fangel 11-07-2011 08:13 PM

Nah, I'm dull, come 6-8 weeks late and full of peanuts.

Kane Knight 11-07-2011 10:16 PM

Big smile on his face but empty inside.

Mr. C 11-07-2011 10:42 PM

My ideal mission would be, with a group of NPCs, steal a bunch of cars, get in a huge chase/shootout with the authorities, and take them to Mexico.

Savio 11-07-2011 10:57 PM

Hey guys come on cant we get back to arguing?

But GTA is moving in a more mature direction.

Anyway, my ideal mission would be, with or without a group of NPCs, holding up a convenience store by threatening to shoot a woman with a candy bar, get in a huge chase/shootout with the authorities, and drive to Mexico.

Then make Two and a Half Men.

A thread detailing our protagonist leaked by a tester was posted over at GTAForums and promptly deleted by the moderators.

SPOILER: show
The protagonist’s name is Ray, age 53, divorcee, ex-con from Liberty, and father of two children, boy Daniel and daughter Skyler. They’re too young to understand their father’s history. Ray moved to Los Santos recently and was served with a divorce weeks later. Due to his background, this prevents him from having custody of his children, thus giving full custody to his ex-wife instead.

Kane Knight 11-09-2011 08:15 PM

And yet, there's going to be sandbox play where you can unequivocaly be the bad guy.

MTH15 11-11-2011 04:49 AM

Show us some love...Give us a black guy and let us recruit random people off of the street again....i miss those days back in san andreas.....that was my favorate thing to do..... RIP D-Vour we miss you cuz GROOOVE Street Homie

Kane Knight 11-11-2011 10:59 AM

Jungle Fever?

Emperor Smeat 11-12-2011 03:47 PM

Assuming the tweets are correct, Ned Luke voices the character in the balcony from the trailer who is also rumored to be the main character for the game.

It would also debunk any hopes or rumors of the man being Tommy Vercetti or even the possibility of him showing up in the game.

If you think that'll stop the speculation, you obviously haven't read any of this thread.

 Where do you come up with this stuff? You're on fire!

Kane Knight 11-12-2011 08:18 PM

It comes from my grip on reality and pattern recognition. :)

DS 11-12-2011 08:25 PM

I think "pattern recognition" sums up all of your posts.

Kane Knight 11-12-2011 08:29 PM

And yet, you seem to lack it.

DS 11-12-2011 08:30 PM

You've got me there.

Requiem 11-13-2011 02:32 AM

Yet when other people recognize his pattern, he just ignores them and waits a little before resuming it. Suppose it's really just a broader pattern of inciting, ignoring, waiting and inciting again.

The Mask 11-13-2011 10:36 AM

it's pretty cool if they use the LA noire facial acting la-di-dah, whatever it's called. i could go for that.

I'm kind of assuming that's something we'll see folded in. Motionscan is considered a pretty big deal, it seems.

According to IMDB, Niko Bellic will return in GTA V due to his voice actor showing up in the voice cast which would mean he agreed to a new deal with Rockstar to be one of the voice actors in the game.

IMDB also lists the person who voiced CJ from San Andreas as "highly possible" for GTA V.

http://www.gamezone.com/news/niko-be...actor-revealed

Kane Knight 11-17-2011 04:27 PM

IMDB is still pretty accurate, too. Though it does beg the question of "does he play Niko?"

And "is he homeless and blowing dude for change?"

Drakul 11-17-2011 05:50 PM

That should probably be marked as a spoiler. We may not know if it's true or not but, just incase it is.

The Destroyer 11-17-2011 06:24 PM

IMDB is a terrible, terrible source. I've seen it used to spout absolute bollocks about casting in the past and I never trust it with things like this.

Xero 11-17-2011 06:34 PM

Isn't IMDB semi-open, similar to Wikipedia, where pretty much anyone (with an account) can edit most pages except mainstream stuff?

RoXer 11-17-2011 06:35 PM

who cares

Casting choices as spoiler.

When the casting choices could be linked to story events, I'd say it's a spoiler.
