Since Triple H is going to have a match at WrestleMania, who do you think it is going to be against?
I was thinking about the WrestleMania card today. Triple H, despite not being around for the rest of the year and never being the big star that other part-timers for the company have been will obviously work Mania and get a huge entrance, etc. Who do you think gets bestowed that "CM Punk 2014" spot?
|
I was going to include a poll, but I'm sleepy and must have just selected the number of options and not ticked the actual box. Anyway, my money is on Batista if he is free and willing, Kevin Owens if he is not.
|
That Jap fellow.
|
Dean Ambrose
|
he will be the ref in the cornett Santino match
|
Loose Cannon.

Wasn't the rumor that he was supposed to face Angle?

For some reason, Kevin Owens popped into my head when I read the title. Angle would be cool, though.
|
Yeah with all this McMahon stuff with Owens going on I've gotta assume it'll be Triple H-Owens at Mania. Maybe they speed it up and put it on Survivor Series though.

One option I was going to include in the poll (besides Loose Cannon, of course) that I haven't seen mentioned, is Finn Balor. Big entrances, Triple H puts over another of his NXT kids. I'm not betting on that one, but I wanted to introduce it as an option.

HHH vs Kevin Owens
Kurt Angle vs Jason Jordan Cena vs Jinder Roman vs Brock Nakamura vs AJ Ronda Rousey 'happening' |
I can see a lot of that. I've got Jason Jordan in some sort of clusterfuck and Angle not wrestling though. I was thinking that Joe could be the Shane opponent.
|
Wonder what kind of a stupid entrance they'll give him.
What movies are set for release around Wrestlemania? |
Shane o'Mac
|
Hopefully it's Big Momma's House 3.
|
This or Madea 74.
|
HHH and Steph vs Cena and Nikki
Losers have to get divorced |
Kevin Owens seems to make the most sense at this point. Have slot to playoff of with their past in NXT and Hunter handing him the Universal title. Although HHH might have to be the face in he program, I still think it would be a good match. No worse than Roman vs HHH and I thought that was a good match.

Seriously, it'd be beyond hilarious if he felt desperate enough to come back only to be put into the very same match he left over. |
Poetic irony I could get behind
|
and you know punk isnt gonna try and shoot him
|
It would be shit though. Hhh trying to prove to everyone what main event storytelling is, plodding around the ring at a snail pace.
|
I hope we don't get a Triple H match.

In his mind as the flag bearer and innovator of the entire attitude era... He is needed to save wrestlemania.

The guys on the rosteraren't selling tickets so triple h isnt going to hurt

Although I'd probably argue that Jesus Christ himself wouldn't sell tickets with the current creative direction.

Fastlane in only 3 hours, youd never fit in his entrance

Fandango.
Starts off as a seemingly throwaway joke with the "Day One is H" stuff by the Fashion Police and slowly spirals into them discovering a deeper conspiracy by Triple H who has sinister plans to depose Vince and bring back WCW/NWA as the dominate wrestling power. Bringing back WCW's Starrcade was the "Day One" of Triple H's plans. |
Both were trained by Killer Kowalski. Jericho put Fandango over at WrestleMania. Does HHH really think he's better than Chris Jericho?

The stakes of the Triple H match no longer mean anything. Besides Sting, he's put over talent at WrestleMania XXX, 32 and 33. And what does it mean in the long run? I'm not just saying that because Daniel Bryan was forced to retire. Every year Triple H wrestles someone and he "puts them over," but the next year he's still on the card being featured, and it will often be in a higher spot than that talent he "put over." Is it really putting someone over if you are still over them the next Mania?
|
His name still has more value than nearly the entire rsoter combined though...shame to let it go to waste...at some point a real star will come along and this cycle will end...maybe...
Or the business will implode. Which is possible. |
Serious Answer: Daniel Bryan
|
He will face me, Lock Jaw.

Rumor I've heard lately is that they may actually use that 3 year old footage as some kind of excuse to build to a Triple H vs. The Rock match. What that excuse could possibly be, who knows. Maybe Vince has gone so batshit senile he's deluded himself into thinking it's 1998. |
The Rock is way above a Triple H match.
|
Is there proof, like ratings or ticket sales or anything, that can honestly show that Triple H is in fact a draw.
Because I genuinely don't think he's any more of a draw than anyone else on the roster today. The only legit "draws" in WWE right now are Lesnar and Cena, and Rock if and when he comes around, in my opinion, anyway. Someone like Ronda Rousey might be good for a bit of mainstream publicity etc, but surely there's no way anyone really get excited or give a fuck about Triple H matches any more. |
I don't think there's proof that Triple H was ever a draw, to be honest. WWE cracks 1 million buys for WrestleMania X-7, but they don't get there again until 2007 -- when Triple H isn't there. They get it the next year too, but that's the year that Triple H shoe-horned himself into Cena vs. Orton. The main draw for that show is Floyd Mayweather. They don't get 1 million buys again until The Rock comes back. In fact, they drop from the 1 million buys for the WrestleMania that Triple H headlines against Orton.
The other headlining match for Triple H was 2016 against Roman Reigns, and they needed to bring in Shane McMahon to go against Taker to sell out so Trips can say he closed the biggest WrestleMania of all-time. In 2000, at his critical peak (which I don't think anyone will deny), WrestleMania performs really well. Biggest buy to date for them, but look at what it follows: buys tripling under Austin. Backlash does HUGE and is anomalous, this is true, but look at Judgment Day and Fully Loaded. Each does 420,000. The difference between them? The Rock is wrestling Triple H in an Iron Man Match on one and Chris Benoit on the other. I mean, 420,000 for B-level stuff is great, but anyone could have drawn with The Rock at that point in time. That it was Benoit or Triple H going against him was negligible. In 2002 he did spike a good RAW rating for his return (better than the year previous), but after that things were back right back to where they were when he wasn't there. The Royal Rumble buys were up too. I think if you were trying to make the case that Triple H ever did make a difference, it would be there. Or in 2005 with the Batista stuff which got close to 1 million buys. But yeah, I think even Triple H at his most effective isn't as effective as company narrative is. Ratings and buys usually perform as well as they are performing when he is around, and sometimes even better when he is gone. |
I legitimately believe that Vince McMahon is a bigger star than Triple H.

Lol, true.

Yeah Vince is still money, especially with how rare his appearances are these days. I imagine before he hangs it up he will be heavily involved in at least one more feud, possibly in an attempt to "make" another SCSA.
|
Owens looked better headbutting Vince than he did during his entire Universal Title reign.
|
Reigns also actually turned the crowd onto his side when he speared Vince en route to winning the title from Sheamus on Raw that one night.
Didn't last long... but still... We can shit on Vince being out of touch and not knowing how to build stars anymore all day but when it comes to a TV character, Triple H is MILES behind him. |
Perhaps Jason Jordan...in lieu of Kurt getting clearance to wrestle, they utilise Jordan in the spot instead, standing up for his daddy.
Ugh! |
Adding Conor McGreggor to my list of Shane McMahon

Like, give Triple H the book and you'll get something like NXT. But if Vince were feeling threatened he would surround himself with great people who would do let stars be stars and Triple H would be fucked. Does that make any sense? |
