Because FOX takes creative chances with their Marvel properties (Logan, Deadpool) and they have the rights to the New Mutants comic book. I believe this is based on "The Demon Bear Saga".

This is a much bigger departure than either of those films.

I don't even mind that it's a horror movie.

If they took inspiration from the tone of the book, and Bill Sienkiewicz's creepy avante garde art style, I think they could make something really cool and unique. This looks like a generic looking by the numbers horror movie.

This was released by a SFX studio who was prepping the movie when it was announced so I think it will still have some 'big sequences' -- this is just more of a teaser trailer.

Just because something is done in a new way does not automatically make it good.

I am far from grumpy. I enjoy most things more than the cynical, nitpicky internet, whether it's games, movies, or comics. I generally feel that most people need to lighten the fuck up when it comes to these topics. Also, I love horror and can absolutely appreciate a generic flick for what it is. The problem is, that the New Mutants have such a rich history, and it's hard to watch this trailer and see it as anything but a missed opportunity.

That said, I realize that it's just the first trailer, so I won't completely condemn it. Not hyped for it at all though, at this point.

I've gone LuvNuts 4 FigNuts now. Also the Demon Bear better be scary as fuck and not cheap CGI.

Wonder is powers will be a big thing or a small piece to the movie.

Also feel this may go the Resident Evil route where the first movie is more of a horror and then it transitions into more action.

idk...I googled the characters in it and their powers 'seem cool' but X-Men/Mutants powers pretty much always 'seem cool'.

Illyana - magic sword/teleporation
Wolfsbane - turns into a werewolf
Cannonball - tuns really hot and flies like human torch but shoots fireballs too
Sunspot - strong af and absorbs/shoots out energy
Moonstar - telepath who can shoot arrows telepathically

Know nothing about the New Mutants series but trailer felt like just another terrible or generic type horror film. Even had the cheap jump scare tease included which is something I despise a lot in modern horror films.

Generic Horror AVEC MUTANTS

The Demon Bear storylinewas a pretty good story arc for its time and was the start of Bill Sienkiewicz run on the title who was known for his run on Moon Knight. The Storyline starts in New Mutants 18 and the change in art style from 17 to 18 is pretty jarring

This does not look good to me...... was hoping for a more "X-Men the new class" vibe..... is this even going to be in the same continuity?

The original storyline was more or less supernatural in nature involving a Native American type demon (foggy on that one). This version? Whose to say, it could all take place in the children's minds

Interesting casting , after watching Split last night was impressed with Anya Taylor-Joy's performance and of course we know all about Maisie Williams and Charlie Heaton.
Definitely interested in it .
