WWE's shitty camera work

Currently 2 threads on Reddit complaining about WWE's horrible camera work:
https://www.reddit.com/r/SquaredCirc...inematography/
https://www.reddit.com/r/SquaredCirc...inematography/

When I started watching again a couple of years ago, that was one of the first things I noticed... really jarring and annoying. Constant camera cuts, dumb ass abrupt camera movements and zoom-ins, etc... V glad there are a lot of other people who also seem annoyed by it.

I hate the whole "creating action" movements. Movies and TV shows are guilty of this nonsense as well. And over time, it has become a "style". I'm just glad I'm not prone to motion sickness, but it is still annoying as fuck.

I want to see what's going on, not have what's going on interpreted to me by production. If the action isn't spectacular enough to stand on its own, then the performers need to step their game up.

#1-norm-fan 10-11-2017 01:33 AM

They think that zooming in and out real quick will make everything seem unexpected and hectic. WWE is retarded. Probably Kevin Dunn's idea. Trying to hurry up and win an Emmy for directing before Vince dies and he thinks this is the key to getting it.

Yeah, I watched the Shield reuniting video and they were doing this shit while stomping on Braun and fuck me. It's so annoying and unwatchable.

Terrible.

Evil Vito 10-11-2017 08:39 AM

I was gonna say "I don't seem to notice it as much as others" and then realize that's because I very often am looking at my phone or computer and just listening in the background because whatever is happening on screen is boring me.

Droford 10-11-2017 08:53 AM

I dont mind the zoom in and out on the Sheamus/Cesaro spot but the stuff from the shield attack on RAW was just unwatchable..

Stickman 10-11-2017 11:50 AM

It has been painful to watch. Shitty camera work then cut to commercial, it's physically hard to watch.

The shaky cam shot is legit one of the worst things about the WWE in recent years.

The shots would look better if they simply toned down on the amount of quick cuts, quick zooms, and shaky cam done. Instead it just comes off as a half-assed attempt at adding a movie feeling to the hits.

Triple A 03-01-2018 01:50 AM

what the fuck

Nicky Fives 03-01-2018 02:35 AM

I just saw this on Twitter....It's ridiculous.....I understand the need for this type of filming in a huge brawl, but with only 4 people in the ring, there's no need for this many cuts.....Slowly scroll through 3 cameras (left side of ring, hard cam, right side of ring) focusing more on the hard cam and that's more than enough.

Stickman 03-01-2018 11:53 AM

I actually found the end of Smackdown this week hard to watch because there were way way too many camera cuts. I don't remember it being that bad lately.

slik 03-01-2018 12:07 PM

K Dunn gets worse and worse as time goes on

More like he just doesn't care at all and knows he has a job for life as long as Vince is around based on tales from people who worked with Dunn in the past.

Either him or someone else came up with that idea and then he mandated it to be done as much as possible because he's too lazy to think of a new idea or fix it.

KIRA 03-01-2018 11:53 PM

There are student projects with less jump cuts

Shaky cam was the worst thing to befall visual entertainment

The fact that Dunn and the brain trust in the WWE like it is no surprise they tend to love the worst shit.

That was confusing and infuriating unfortunately Dunn was just getting started with his iMOVIE effects suite

Christ.

If you two hadn't seen the ROCKSTAR shit, you may have missed the hilarious LOCKDOWN during The Usos promo.

I saw this... I didn't realize Kevin Dunn's shitty graphics disease was heading for Nakamura as well.... and also the fucking selfies gotta go too...

Rammsteinmad 03-02-2018 09:17 AM

Holy fuck at those effects. What is WWE coming to?

Sting Fan 03-03-2018 06:27 AM

I never really noticed, now I cant unsee it.

Savio 03-03-2018 09:17 AM

Saw a video of Tyson and Cesaro commentating on the Chamber and Tyson made fun of the camera work.

Evil Vito 03-03-2018 11:31 AM

Fuck Kevin Dun

I don't get this post.

Cool King 03-03-2018 12:51 PM

I think what's he's trying to say is that he saw the graphics used during The Uso's promo but he missed the graphics used during Nakamura's entrance, so he didn't know that graphics were used more than once.

He then goes on to say how he dislikes the promos that are done using mobile phones, which I agree with, as they're just atrocious.

Sixx 03-03-2018 01:05 PM

Oh, so they used the same cell door graphics for Nakamura, too?

And what mobile phone promos? Link?

Cool King 03-03-2018 01:21 PM

They had the word "ROCKSTAR" in massive red letters scroll across the screen during his entrance.

Also, these mobile phone promos usually have text appearing all over the screen, for example, the promo would begin with a sudden cut from whatever is happening on screen and we would see a black screen with the wrestler's name in the most basic text, then it would go to the wrestler's mobile phone promo and if someone said "Tonight, I'm gonna beat your ugly face and go on to WrestleMania", the words "beat your ugly face" would appear on screen as the wrestler says it and then the word "WrestleMania" would also appear as the wrestler says that word.

A video of it would be much better than my poor description/example but I can't seem to find any videos of the promos after they've been through WWE editing, so here's a mobile phone promo before WWE editing.

<script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Cool King 03-03-2018 01:25 PM

In a way, think of it as if a kid used their phone to record their own promo and edited it on Window's Movie Maker before showing it to everyone.

Cool King 03-03-2018 01:30 PM

Actually, I've just found a video with the graphics and stuff.

No just using shitty graphics in general... waiting for the same shit to be used for like say Sasha Banks or Roman Reigns in the future because you know Kevin Dunn can't help himself.

Sixx 03-03-2018 01:36 PM

Jesus Christ, fuck cell phones and all that comes with them.
