Sheamus & Cesaro remind me of a 1995 All Japan tag team

When they first started teaming, I was a bit reluctant to accept them. I was optimistic, because I love Cesaro, and pairing him with a guy the company has a boner for was only going to be good for him. But it didn't seem to work right away. Cesaro is sometimes a bit awkward when he is trying to force out personality. Sheamus can be uninspiring at times. And there just didn't seem to be that chemistry there. They were two guys teaming. Two guys that don't quite elicit a strong emotion on their own, sadly enough.

But I've started to feel the vibe from these two recently. When it was announced they were going against Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins, I got about as theoretically enthused as I can about the modern product, haha. Mainly because it meant that Seth Rollins would be interacting with Cesaro. And because the WWE has a lot invested in at least three of those personalities. And given the style all four can work, I thought it would lend itself to being conducive to some hard-hitting, smash-mouth, modern day tag classics.

Okay, I might be stretching it a little bit. But I caught the tail end of that No Mercy tag. Now it seems like they are embroiled with The Shield, and Roman Reigns is a top priority. It seems logical to assume that they will be headlining TLC. There's a good feeling in that. Something about Sheamus and Cesaro now feels "legit" as a tag team. But they're also these bad-ass guys on their own. I feel like Cesaro could suddenly slip into a more comfortable role with the company if the rough edges of this tag team can suddenly feel much smoother.

I am down on a lot in wrestling, but Sheamus & Cesaro as a tag team is not one of those things. What are your thoughts on them as a team?

I think they are insanely boring and whenever they come on Raw I feel dread and a huge urge to stop watching

Mr. Nerfect 10-08-2017 04:01 AM

I've only watched a selection of their PPV stuff. Are they doing the bad promos still?

Triple A 10-08-2017 04:04 AM

It is mostly because every one of their segments seems like it's just there to fill time on Raw and nothing interesting ever happens, and their matches on Raw always seem to pointlessly be like 20 minutes long

Mr. Nerfect 10-08-2017 04:14 AM

They've got a lot of time to fill.

Lock Jaw 10-08-2017 04:26 AM

I liked them from the start, but they have been getting better and better as a team.

However, the tag team division is so dreadful that I can't get into anything involving it.

Sure I like Cesaro and Sheamus at first, but 17 weeks of brutal pointless RAW matches against Gallows and Anderson takes its toll.

PPV matches are usually still good. I bet that even some of the RAW matches are good, but I can't be bothered to pay attention.

Seems like it's been more like 80 weeks than 17...

#1-norm-fan 10-08-2017 05:58 AM

I think they're good people/wrestlers but bad characters.

#1-norm-fan 10-08-2017 05:59 AM

Kinda how I feel about a lot of wrestlers in WWE.

Bad News Gertner 10-08-2017 08:36 AM

They are fantastic. This team would fit in pretty much every era.

Jordan 10-08-2017 08:38 AM

Well I find them far from boring, but I don't watch Raw every week. They are a perfect mismashed team to me.

This. Loved them the entire time. They fed off each other really well. Plus I fucking love Sheamus and Cesaro is entertaining for the first time ever. This will really setup a chance fo4 Cesaro to have a legit singles run once they are finished.

#1-norm-fan 10-08-2017 08:44 AM

I even loved face Sheamus back when he took the title from Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania. The man himself is pretty great.

Bad News Gertner 10-08-2017 08:46 AM

Sheamus is the most under-appreciated guy on the roster. Been a fan since WWECW. He's fantastic.

Mr. Nerfect 10-08-2017 08:52 AM

Sheamus strikes me as a dude that would suck to be around in real life, to be honest. He's got his moments in the ring when he's not stiffing people into oblivion. I wonder if he'd be more over if he was pushed less down everyone's throats?

Provided they don't have 800 more matches between now and WrestleMania, I'd be fine with Ambrose & Rollins vs. Sheamus & Cesaro opening up the show. I think they'd have a great showing. If you really need added stakes, then have the losing team need to disband or something. Given that all four guys have had singles profiles before, I'm not sure if everyone would know which way it was going.

Ol Dirty Dastard 10-08-2017 09:13 AM

Yeah don't get the hate towards them but I don't watch every week. Seem like 2 badasses I wouldn't want to meet in a back alley--other than the Usos I don't know who else I could say that about in the tag division/

Mr. Nerfect 10-08-2017 09:17 AM

Braun Strowman, The Miz, Sheamus, Cesaro & The Usos vs. The New Day & The Shield at Survivor Series would be some crazy fun.

Emperor Smeat 10-08-2017 05:25 PM

They've been a nice addition to RAW's tag division especially since their heel turn.

Had very low expectations of the team due to WWE's terrible ending to the Best of 7 series and not thinking they'd last this long but they have exceed it by a lot.

Destor 10-08-2017 05:58 PM

You could put that team in any era and it would work. If tag wrestling were hot right now its all anyone would be talking about. Theyre ace.

Anybody Thrilla 10-08-2017 06:12 PM

I think they're incredible, and I really was hoping they would win the titles back at No Mercy.

Also Noid, you should probably just go ahead and watch that whole match. It was dope.

wwe2222 10-08-2017 06:48 PM

I like them a lot. They need better opponents and a story.

Mr. Nerfect 10-08-2017 06:55 PM

It's interesting how many people are saying they like them, but they don't watch every week. Is there anyone who does watch every week and likes them? I'm curious because I wonder if there's something a lot more tiring about a full-time commitment to them, haha.

I watch every week and they're easily my favorite team on Raw. I'm partial to the Usos on Smackdown. Which I also watch every week.

Mr. Nerfect 10-08-2017 07:00 PM

Cool. I've heard great things about The Usos' current work.

Anybody Thrilla 10-08-2017 07:01 PM

They've really found their groove, I think. The feud with The New Day has been awesome for both teams.

Vastardikai 10-08-2017 08:00 PM

I wouldn't mind seeing Sheamus and Cesaro vs. the Wild Bunch.

I stopped watching every week a few months ago. When I did watch every week I loved them.

Who are the Wild Bunch?

They were a Mid '90s era All Japan tag team. Had a couple matches in Smokey Mountain, as well. The hype video involved them working with Johnny Ace and Kobashi. I will find the Smokey Mountain card on YouTube later, if I remember.

Also, they were big guys who could brawl and were agile as hell.

Evil Vito 10-09-2017 08:25 AM

I love Sheamus and Cesaro. It's been a brilliant use of both guys.

Having said that I do think their TV matches run a bit long. I'd be all for classic 20 minute matches on PPV but I really don't need to see longass matches on Raw every week.

For a company that has "a lot of time to fill" on its flagship show there are an awful lot of people on the Raw roster that seem to be booked on Main Event each week and that's it.

The issue is even worse on SmackDown because they don't have a B-show.

Anybody Thrilla 10-09-2017 10:31 AM

I actually really like long matches on Raw.

Actually, I think I just like good matches. I don't care who's making money off of them.

Mr. Nerfect 10-09-2017 05:57 PM

Do they work singles on RAW? If the attraction is in them as a tag team right now, I would have them work longer singles and shorter tags. I'm mainly thinking about potential Cesaro vs. Seth Rollins matches. You'd get no real chance of getting one on a PPV right now, but let them tear it up on RAW to build capital for their tag team matches on PPV.

Anybody Thrilla 10-09-2017 06:06 PM

That's essentially what they've been doing. I remember about a month ago a Cesaro v. Ambrose match that went for like twenty minutes. There have been some Sheamus v. Rollins matches that roll for a while too.

They're not the only ones that get that treatment, though. Recently, Jason Jordan has had a lot of ring time on Raw with the likes of Finn Balor, John Cena, and Roman Reigns. Can't really pin (ha) the long matches on them.

Mr. Nerfect 10-09-2017 06:14 PM

Jason Jordan could use the showcase. Long matches are fine when they build to the PPV instead of detract from it.

Anybody Thrilla 10-09-2017 06:18 PM

Oh yeah, I was on board with it. Jordan's matches were rippers, too.

Mr. Nerfect 10-09-2017 07:52 PM

He's a good talent. Got no clue what they are trying to achieve with him though, lol. Good luck, JJ.
