TPWW Greatest Manager of All Time Tournament: Qualifying Round Part 2
Screw you for match number 2. Stacy shouldn't have to go against THE MOUTH OF THE SOUTH. Her ASSets should have carried her through the prelims.
SAYS THE GUY WHO VOTED PRINCE NANA OVER SUNNY!
Just going to assume Johnny Polo has a bye to the finals.
The fact you forced me to vote against Bill Alfonzo will not forgiven
Grand Wizard baby!
A man like me wouldn't normally be voting for a Grand Wizard, but even I have to in this scenario.
Maybe you're Clayton Bigsby
I've been accused.
Stacy Kielber all the way!
You will not see him in the upcoming weeks Mark Guleen has been eliminated.
No Paul Ellering?
Ellering was in the last round.
Some harder match-ups for me this time. Joking aside, some of the women in these rounds actually helped their charges. Conventional or not, Lita was soooooo fucking over in 2000. She was a part of that package. No way I could put her over Skaaland though.
Lana, Sunny, Maryse and Melina were/are all really good at their jobs. I didn't put them all over, but it was harder this side. |
I put Lita over Skaaland happily. Arnold Skaaland sucks balls as a manager.
Melina and DiBiase I had to stop and think about. On paper, DiBiase is a better character and promo, but the Million Dollar Corporation was a shitty stable, and I can't honestly say DiBiase really helped anybody that he managed or was responsible for anything positive in the role. Melina, on the other hand, was great as the charisma of MNM, short-lived as it was. |
Haha, I'm probably overrating his significance, truthfully. Melina and DiBiase gave me the same pause. Your analysis is spot-on there. DiBiase as a manager feels like a retired wrestler doing his shtick on the side. DiBiase is really fondly remembered as a heel, but I don't think any of it transferred effectively. I much prefer it when a manager gets in there and it really feels like they are part of the act. Melina did that really well. Hell, her initial is in the team name -- it felt like she was a member. Ironically, her association with people behind the scenes ended up hurting them. But on-air she was great in that role.
I also went with Lana over Jimmy Valiant. It took me a while to get optimistic about Rusev, but now I am quite upset they are not together. I thought they had something with her in that role, even though Stephanie tried to cut her "Lady Balls" off. |
I had to throw some shade in on some votes going against the obvious winners
Oh my god. Crippla lives.
The people that saddled DiBiase with had no chance of getting over anyway. There wasn't a redeeming quality between them. King Kong Bundy, Kama Mustafa, Nikolai Volkoff, IRS, and I guess Tatanka for a minute. Who am I missing in that god awful stable?
Sid and the 1-2-3 Kid.
Sid was actually kinda tight, the more I think about it.

DiBiase had a bunch of losers, sure, but so did Lou Albano and he made it work because he was ace and had a ton of heat. DiBiase, for a main event heel manager, was pretty cold and just kind of filling a role as opposed to being awesome in it. Did he ever cut a promo as a manager that gave his guy a ton of heat, or made you want to see him lose? Melina, who was a complete unknown, with what she had (a brand new tag team without any kind of built-in momentum), did far more and was part of a really strong act for a year. Ted's only real claim to fame as a manager was that he happened to be part of the NWO in the early run, but he was a bit player in truth. Was DiBiase any good in WCW as a babyface manager for the Steiner and Ray Traylor? No, he sucked. As a wrestler, DiBiase as a promo blows her out of the water. As a manager, I honestly think Melina was better in her role that DiBiase was in his. |

Prob should have voted Lita as she was fiest and foremost a damned good manager who could bump and sell.
Never really watched Skaaland but just assumed he was better cuz he was old and threw Backlunds towel in against Sheik. |
That's pretty much all he ever did in 20 years. I LOVE Backlund, but Skaaland was pretty much put with Backlund because Skaaland also managed Bruno. Plus Skaaland was office and Im sure he got extra pay. His interviews were bleh. Even Kal Rudman couldn't get something entertaining out of Arnie
Lita was the drizzling shits and im trhilled shes losing

Goddammit, we're gonna have a tie, aren't we?
I favor a head to head rematch

Okay, I completely forgot that Lita was with Edge. I don't know how I forgot that, but I just didn't even factor it in. In the event of a tie, I will gladly change my vote to Lita, but I also favor the rematch. And I was rating Skaaland way too highly based on how significant I thought he was to the success of Bruno. This is my own ignorance.
Melina was really good in her role. For example, compare Blake & Murphy w/ Alexa to MNM. Obviously Nitro and Mercury were better wrestlers, but they needed Melina to be a part of that act. It's not as easy to make it all come together as they made it look. |
Remember the Teacher's Pets? Nope? Exactly.
Somebody HAS to vote for Lita to get a rematch going. Skaaland cannot go through to the second round, he just can't.
