Lucha Underground Season 1 Thread

Thought I would try to help everyone out a little bit with organization since the show is coming to Netflix US/Canada this week.

Please limit your specific discussions in this thread to Season 1.

An example might be "Man, just wait until you see the crazy shit Mascarita Sagrada does in Season 2!" would be okay because it's non-specific, but "Dude, Mascarita Sagrada wins the Lucha Underground Championship in Season 6!" would not be because it gives away something in the future that may/may not have been seen by everyone.

LU is taped and these episodes are old, but it is way more enjoyable without it being spoiled for you. Assuming that very few people have seen these episodes, those of us that have need to be respectful of the viewing experience of others and not just throw shit out there without purpose.

Please keep all current LU discussions to the current season thread. Thanks!

Now let's go to the lovely Melissa Santos!

Good call. Holy shit I'm happy about this.

Lock Jaw 03-12-2017 07:46 PM

I think DaveWadding REALLY wants somebody to talk to about Lucha Underground.......

#1-norm-fan 03-12-2017 08:04 PM

I've seen a lot of Lucha Underground shit but it's all been in YouTube clips so I have no idea what season things happened in.

DaveWadding 03-12-2017 10:42 PM

You're not allowed. Girls fight boys on this show.

SlickyTrickyDamon 03-12-2017 10:47 PM

What's the deal with that anyways?

Lock Jaw 03-12-2017 10:53 PM

This should be helpful since going into Season 2, El Rey had released a highlights package of all the big stuff that happened in the first season.

Lucha Underground is my jam. Some of the matches can get a little samey since everyone has a pretty similar moveset, but I love their whole soap-opera/comic-book format. Also, Dario Cueto is easily the best 'evil authority figure' guy since 1998 Vince.

Gonna go back and watch the first two seasons again once they hit Netflix, now that I can watch it without going to a pirate site and giving my computer herpes.

In a culture/region that has a long history of domestic violence I'd have to say you'll have to do better than that.

Corporate CockSnogger 03-13-2017 04:39 AM

Lucha Underground is about the only wrestling I've watched in years.

It's daft, Has some ridiculous plot lines (and a lot that are great and more interesting than anything WWE would do) and the "wrestling" side of it is all style, no substance, but I think with age that's all I give a shit about now. I'd rather see a 10 minute match of people hitting each other with weapons and jumping off of high things than any number of rest holds and traditional wrestling where nothing of note happens until the last minute of a match anyway. I couldn't care less about any of that any more.

The storylines are fun as are most of the characters. There's dragons, spacemen, lizard men, gangsters, bikers, cyborgs, drug enthusiasts, unstoppable monsters that are actual monsters and a bunch of regular wrestlers whose motivation for actually doing something is properly explained.

Almost every match has a reason for happening and there's no filler. Every single character is involved in a storyline and because it's only 45 mins long you don't get the same characters every week so they don't get stale. Vampiro and Matt Striker are also great on commentary.

So basically it's the polar opposite of what I last saw with WWE and from what I read every now and then it hasn't changed at all.

It's very fun for someone who got fed up of wrestling a long time ago and definitely worth watching.

You're so fucking weird.

It's simple. There's no "women's division".

Men have matches with men.
Women have matches with women.
Men have matches with women.

There's nothing that needs explaining.

PRITTY MUCH

It did start going downhill slightly in the last season, but even then, it's a lot of fun. Worldwide Underground are the best stable.

Corporate CockSnogger 03-13-2017 04:47 AM

Also the ring announcer, Melissa Santos is the hottest braud in rasslin.

#BROKEN Hasney 03-13-2017 04:49 AM

I'm still pretty shocked They call him Cage hasn't been signed by WWE still. But I'm glad he hasn't.

I'd be shocked if he could pass a Wellness Test or not get busted by one. Then again Neville was very muscular for his size and he never got busted.

Yeah, but in Mexico they beat up women so it's not okay?

I don't get him.

Swiss Ultimate 03-15-2017 06:18 PM

It's here.

Pretty great first episode. They accomplished what Vince never could with the backstage scenes.

Swiss Ultimate 03-15-2017 06:20 PM

Only complaint is it doesn't look great on my HD tv.

RP 03-15-2017 06:52 PM

Started watching a bit of it. Was that Johnny Nitro i saw? I had to cut it off honestly.

Swiss Ultimate 03-15-2017 06:53 PM

Yes it was.

RP 03-15-2017 06:57 PM

Interesting. I'll watch more later. It wasnt bad, i just needed to watch the BBall games.

Swiss Ultimate 03-15-2017 07:05 PM

The first two matches were so so, but it was the pilot. Had to start somewhere.

RP 03-15-2017 07:07 PM

I'm in on this for sure. I just cut it off for some other things cause i had people over. But i'll be watching and giving opinions.

They had a problem getting some talent to the original tapings because of visa issues so it takes maybe 3 or 4 episodes to really get popping.

Swiss Ultimate 03-15-2017 09:44 PM

I got to the third episode and holy shit.

I am loving it.

DaveWadding 03-15-2017 10:06 PM

😉

Swiss Ultimate 03-17-2017 03:41 PM

Watching more tonight. Woooooo!

Women and Men in LU can all go for the same belts Evilese is just capable of and just as likely to be kicking the shit outta Johnny Mundo as Pentagon jr.

If you're suggesting this will influence domestic violence or paint it in a positive light that's highly doubtful.

Swiss Ultimate 03-17-2017 08:03 PM

Worry worry worry.
