Cowboy Bebop Live Action Series

Quote:

Cowboy Bebop,” a critically and commercially successful 1998 Japanese anime series, is set to be adapted into a live action television series by Tomorrow Studios, a partnership between ITV Studios and Marty Adelstein.
The live action version will be executive produced by Sunset Inc. — the studio responsible for the original animated iteration — as well as Midnight Radio, Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, and Matthew Weinberg. Midnight Radio consists of Josh Appelbaum, Andre Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, and Scott Rosenberg. Chris Yost will write the adaptation.

“Cowboy Bebop,” which takes place in 2071 in the original version, follows Spike Spiegel and his gang of bounty hunters, also known as cowboys, as they cavort around the galaxy attempting to capture bad guys and survive some of the most intense dangers the galaxy has to offer. The anime series has been successful in Western markets, and is credited with introducing a new wave of Western viewers to anime. It’s also widely cited as one of the best anime series of all time.

“Cowboy Bebop” already received the feature film treatment in 2001 with “Cowboy Bebop: The Movie,” which is set amidst the latter third of the 26-episode anime series and received mostly positive reviews from critics. In the same year, the original series became the first anime series to be broadcast on Adult Swim in the United States.

Loved the series, not sure how I feel about a live action iteration, though Sunset, Inc. could be a good start.

Think a Samurai Champloo live action would transition much better, and maaaaaaaaaaaaaybe they'll follow suit if this goes well.

No idea what that is but sounds like a hog dressed as John Wayne.

So fuck yeah, I already love it.

Feel like Bebop works because it's anime.

Exactly this. The "spin" I guess is that it is supposed to be an "American" version, so it'll be some Westworld-ish shit just without the existential overtones and more action.

Still say Champloo could be done easier and probably turn out better for an anime going to live action.

Kinda hated the Ghost in the Shell movie too, despite loving the series.

I fucking loooooooooooove Cowboy Bebop. This seems largely unnecessary.

drave 06-06-2017 10:06 PM

I'll probably czech it out b/c I loved the anime, but it just feels like it is going to be worse than something Uwe Boll would do.

I can't wait for them to do a live action Akira as well, "just because"

drave 06-06-2017 10:14 PM

But you'd cream your pants for some IRL Pokemon, eh?

:D

road doggy dogg 06-06-2017 10:18 PM

Yeah Pokemon isn't critically acclaimed for its revolutionary animation

Destor 06-06-2017 11:31 PM

Well this means i get a live action Ein so count me in

So is this just going to mainly be a retelling of the original story?

Good they have the series creators helping out but little worried about how the original ending gets handled or if that gets ditched for something else assuming its a retelling.

I actually think Akira would translate well to a hollywood feature.

youd have to rework the blob monster at the climax

I like Killjoys over on Syfy. It's pretty much this except there's no dog. And sometime's is the long season plot arc instead of the weekly bounty.

Don't see why this is necessary except that Anime is all the rage right now with Ghost in the Shell hitting the big screen and Death Note going to Netflix in August.

Shadow 06-07-2017 06:19 PM

Yeah this is a thing I do not want. At all.

Cash grab.

KIRA 06-13-2017 08:34 PM

first off, I sincerely doubt any live action adaptation could ever do Bebop justice.

They can just fuck right off if Ed and Ein aren't in this.

Fuck this whole idea if Yoko Kanno isn't involved

Matter of fact just don't bother. Try Samurai Champloo might translate easier.

Akira would work as a big budget cgi film. Don't even change the voice acting.

road doggy dogg 06-15-2017 04:40 PM

I have to admit I would be mildly intrigued at how much nightmare fuel in the final act they could produce with today's CGI

Oh, you mean like with the long rumored live-action version with Leonardo DiCaprio attached?

Akira doesn't need to be molested in any way by any remake treatments. The anniversary re-dub was quite enough, thank you.
