I was listening to a podcast and they said that the monthly rental VC game could be a good thing. With online play being added, it means that there will be a community around that game for the month as you can't just throw it on a backlog.
I kind of agree as long as it's games that aren't total classics. But if they start giving out Mario Kart, I'll miss it when it's gone. |
I think they will throw out classics time to time because it is only for a month.
|
That actually is a great point. More people will play it during that month, rather than let it sit in their backlog forever and never be touched until they eventually decide to play it then complain that there's nobody online to play with, a la every game on Steam ever
|
There a Switch UK "tour" this month. I say tour, it's Manchester, Birmingham and London

Sounds like they are adding extra stuff into ARMS to make it a full priced game. Seems to hint at an online elimination match until it boils down to 1v1.

Splatoon developers currently considering adding a Miiverse-like system for the sequel due to Miiverse itself getting dropped for the Switch.
https://www.destructoid.com/splatoon...d-417064.phtml Nintendo announced Breath of the Wild recently went "gold" and held a party to celebrate the occasion. http://www.gamespot.com/articles/loo.../1100-6447574/ |
For those interested in the Switch version of The Binding of Issac, the developer revealed everything included with the game. $40 for those wondering about the price.
https://www.destructoid.com/ul/41718...h1-noscale.jpg http://bindingofisaac.com/post/15689...s-in-the-box-1 According to Konami, the reason why they numbered the newest game with an "R" for Super Bomberman R is meant to be a throwback to classic era Bomberman and gaming. Quote:

£17.99 for DLC on the Switch? Weird they didn't charge £50 for it.
|
Switch UI looking damn snappy
https://vid.me/oQkO From someone who got theirs shipped 2 weeks early somehow. |
Media related support and services like Netflix rumored to be arriving some point after launch based on wording for some of the Switch's features. Also mobile devices rumored to be not the only way to use certain features.
Comes from some wording by Nintendo for certain features that imply more than previously announced. Quote:
|
Can't believe there is still no news on so many things just days from launch.
Not even a word about the virtual console, which I really thought would be vital with so few launch titles. |
They don't want people to throw a hissy fit when they realise that games aren't transferable from other systems. They're still in denial now.
|
Honestly, I just want to know that there will be one at launch now. Those are the games I imagine myself playing on the go. That was a massive reason why I preferred. I just assumed there would be one!
|
According to Nintendo, eShop purchases will now be 100% tied to accounts and not locked to consoles itself like with the Wii, DS, 3DS, and Wii U (which did both).
Quote:
For those interested in Disgaea 5, NIS announced it will be arriving on May 26th and includes all the DLC from the PS4 version. https://www.destructoid.com/disgaea-...c-419273.phtml |
For those interested in getting a Pro Controller, don't need to rely on a button to sync controllers like with the Wii and Wii U and instead it auto-syncs when linked with a USB cable.
Joy Cons also follow a similar route for syncing when attached to the console itself. https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwi...a_an_usbcable/ |
There's an event where YouTubers or whatever are being invited to and they play 1-2 Switch with John Cena.
Clearly going to be bigger than Wii now. |
But if 1-2 Switch is about looking in somebody eyes and shit how the hell you gonna play against a dude you can't see?
|
Best comment I've seen is that Cena should have done promotion for the Wii U since neither of them sell.
|
Team Meat and Nicalis Studio announced The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ for the Switch got delayed out of the console's launch day to now a March 17th release date. Implied it was something related to production and/or certification issues beyond their control.
https://www.destructoid.com/the-bind...h-419993.phtml Square Enix announced the Switch version of Dragon Quest X is currently planned to be released later this year although no date was given beyond being between the start of Summer and end of Fall. https://www.destructoid.com/as-drago...r-419991.phtml For those getting the Switch, its currently possible to register your Switch gamertag/user ID for the console prior to its launch by way of Nintendo's account website. Can be the same as your Nintendo Network ID if you already have one or a new one since Nintendo treats them as separate names. https://www.destructoid.com/psa-you-...t-419900.phtml |
Well, uh, there's a reason there's been no Virtual Console news yet. It won't be there at launch.
|
Quote:
Fast RMX and Shovel Knight is good news though. Love the virtual console though and loved the idea of having older games I enjoy on it from the start. Really hoping it will be weeks rather than months |
So the press have released their impressions, and it's mostly good. But the left JoyCon apparently loses sync fairly often with some, but not all, the press units.
There is a day 1 update they don't have yet, so hopefully that fixes it. Otherwise, if Nintendo says nothing, I may end up cancelling my pre-order. Don't want to bother with a hardware lottery. |
The VC thing sucks but ultimately matters little to me personally. On my 3DS the only actual VC title I bought was Earthbound. I find it very hard to get super jazzed about games I already own on another console, or paying money for something that was released ~20 years ago.
|
Quote:
VC is disappointing cause I really enjoy going back and buying games I never tried or reliving classics, part of the pull of the console for me was having those games on the go. Obviously hardware problem is a massive issue and while the VC is not make or break, albeit very disappointing, any reason to think I may pay that much money for something faulty, would really make me think twice... |
It's probably a bluetooth issue, so very fixable in software. I hope that's right.
|
I've gone through and counted a lot of the previews and less than about 10% mention a dodgy joycon. Could just be their own interference. Also, no issues in Europe yet. Woo.
There's going to be a presentation on 28th Feb (Tuesday) to detail sone indie support. |
I was planning to go to the Switch preview event in San Francisco this Sunday... but then I found out it starts at 8 am. And the line starts forming at 6 am.

I want that Switch pillow though |
I want that pillow too.
Metro are usually harsh on games and the Zelda embargo ends on the 1st March, but they added this: "We will risk a shuriken to the head from Nintendo’s ninja lawyers by saying that Zelda is everything you will have hoped for, and more, but we won’t be able to do a proper preview until tomorrow" |

Similar to the Wii U, physical Switch games won't require a mandatory install. Then again the games are on carts and probably would have been a bit weird if they did.
Destructoid tested out Zelda:BotW and said the load times were pretty fast for initial boot up stuff. https://www.destructoid.com/physical...l-420438.phtml Nintendo is also holding a Nintendo Direct-like episode on February 28th focusing on indie games being released this year for the Switch. https://www.destructoid.com/eshop-wi...c-420414.phtml Gamespot also did some tests in regards to the tablet's battery and the sweet spot is around 3 hours for usage for Zelda which is what Nintendo was claiming for the game. Glad I'm holding out on the Switch till summer.
|
Keep thinking I won't get this then I see this thread and want it.
|
Controller connectivity issue appears to be because of a lower Bluetooth signal to keep the battery usage low. It means that the signal can be blocked off by someone walking past the screen or by a hand covering the joycon.
They may be able to release a fix, but it seems like just holding the controller the right way will resolve the issue. |
weak
|
It costs enough, come on.
How's it coping with people playing 1 2 Switch and walking around? |
Looks like it's just a bluetooth blocking issue, but slightly emphasised since the controller is smaller. I can do a similar blocking thing on a DS4 or my phone with wireless headphones.
|
The PS4's been out for years, I'm obsessed with controllers and never heard of that. Not saying it doesn't happen, but its rare. The Switch is going for motion controls, sideways holding in a range of environments. If I even have to think about the controller disconnecting, screw that.
|
You have to hold them both unaturally to do it. To stop the DS4, you'd have to wrap your hand around the light bar. The only reason it's easier on the joy con is because they;re so small. It doesn't happen in the grip.
|
Links little gadget he uses looks like a fancy switch tablet. You get a switch shirt for link for buying the season pass. #ShamelessMarketing
|
Have to agree with Rog. You can't have that kind of issue in the context of what you're claiming to offer. That's a bad look.
|
For those interested, Snipperclips got announced to be arriving on launch day for the eShop while a bundle with Joy Con controllers is arriving on March 10th. Game is still a digital version with the bundle though.

SteamWorld Dig 2 from Image & Form Games: In the sequel to the award-winning original, you must dig deep, gain riches and explore an underworld riddled with danger. The game is scheduled to launch this summer. The buddy-duo platformer is coming to Nintendo Switch soon, with multiplayer functionality perfect for the system. Blaster Master Zero from Inti Creates: The same elements that made the original Blaster Master a hit are back, including side-scrolling vehicular combat, top-down adventuring and a huge sci-fi landscape, in addition to a host of new and improved gameplay systems. The game includes a two-player mode and will have numerous character cameos coming soon. Blaster Master Zero launches exclusively on both Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo 3DS family systems on March 9. Pocket Rumble from Chucklefish Games and Cardboard Robot Games: This deep 2D fighter makes players want to throw down, anywhere, anytime. Play as Penny and help the ghosts with their peculiar problems on The Otherside. This puzzling adventure game is scheduled to come to Nintendo Switch later this year. Graceful Explosion Machine from Vertex Pop: Skillfully pilot the advanced Graceful Explosion Machine (GEM) fighter while blasting swarms of crystalline enemies with your ludicrously overpowered quad-weapon array. This side-scrolling arcade shooter features HD rumble support, which means players will really be able to feel those machines explode. The game is scheduled to launch first on Nintendo Switch this April. Tumbleseed from aeiowu: A small seed heads up a mountain to save his home in this physics-based game. More than 30 unique upgrades help the seed overcome challenges and enemies. HD rumble means players will feel seeds traversing across the screen. The game is scheduled to launch on Nintendo Switch this spring. Overcooked: Special Edition from Team 17 and Ghost Town Games: In Overcooked, players must journey through a variety of cruel and unusual kitchens on their quest to become master chefs capable of conquering an ancient edible evil which plagues the land. Play solo or engage in classic, chaotic couch co-op for up to four players in both co-operative and competitive challenge modes. The special edition features the original game, plus all of the DLC. HD rumble integration means they can feel every chop through a tomato and the slosh of soup in a pot. Overcooked: Special Edition is coming later this year. The Escapists 2 from Team 17 and Mouldy Toof: The sequel to the hugely popular prison escape series supports drop-in/drop-out co-op for up to four players (additional accessories are required for multiplayer modes, and are sold separately). The Escapists 2 is coming later this year. GoNNER from Raw Fury and Art in Heart: GoNNER is a tough-as-hell, score-based, procedurally generated platformer with roguelike elements. GoNNER is also a story about friendship between Ikk, Death and a space whale named Sally. You will die. A lot. The console version of the game launches first on Nintendo Switch with additional content tailor-made for the system later this year. Kingdom: Two Crowns from Raw Fury and Noio: In Kingdom: Two Crowns, attend to your domain, border to border, or venture into the wild to discover its wonders and threats. First revealed today, two players can come together in co-op mode to rule a kingdom. Their choices bring hope or despair to their subjects. The game is scheduled to launch later this year. Dandara from Raw Fury and Long Hat House: Dandara has awoken to reshape the world. In this strange world of quirky characters, nothing is at it seems. In this bizarre, gravity-bending world with hidden beauty, it’s up to Dandara, jumping from surface to surface, to restore order and direct a directionless world. The game is scheduled to launch on Nintendo Switch this summer with exclusive features and functionality, including HD rumble support. |
