Yeah, we only know about the monthly rental and that online play will be finally added. Reggie also confirmed that VC, along with other games, will finally be tied to your account rather than the console. There has to be a direct soon, surely.

Optimist view is that they're still deciding on how small the upgrade price is.

Reggie also at least addressed that people have been bugging them nonstop about Mother 3 and Metroid. Who knows if anything will come of that...

Smart decision considering their poor rep for online services and the backlash had it been more in the range of Xbox Live or PS+ for pricing would probably have been really bad.

Now all the need to do it allow users to keep the monthly game and all of a sudden the Switch starts to look really great for even the casual user.

#BROKEN Hasney 02-02-2017 03:40 AM

I was listening to a podcast and they said that the monthly rental VC game could be a good thing. With online play being added, it means that there will be a community around that game for the month as you can't just throw it on a backlog.

I kind of agree as long as it's games that aren't total classics. But if they start giving out Mario Kart, I'll miss it when it's gone.

Ruien 02-02-2017 07:46 AM

I think they will throw out classics time to time because it is only for a month.

road doggy dogg 02-02-2017 08:18 AM

That actually is a great point. More people will play it during that month, rather than let it sit in their backlog forever and never be touched until they eventually decide to play it then complain that there's nobody online to play with, a la every game on Steam ever

#BROKEN Hasney 02-03-2017 12:43 PM

There a Switch UK "tour" this month. I say tour, it's Manchester, Birmingham and London

#BROKEN Hasney 02-06-2017 04:36 AM

Sounds like they are adding extra stuff into ARMS to make it a full priced game. Seems to hint at an online elimination match until it boils down to 1v1.

Quote:

At this event, there are five characters available, each with three different types of arms. Will there be more characters in the retail version?

There will be more characters, with more arm types. What we have available today is just a portion of what will be available in the full game. You can look forward to more information gradually coming out as the release date approaches.
Quote:

You announced a single-player and online mode, but will there be any other modes available?

There are many more that everyone can look forward to… but I can’t talk about them (laughs). Having only 1v1 matches in the online mode would be too exhausting, so there are other modes being prepared. However, the game is boiling down to 1v1 battles in the end, with them as the main focus and the other modes being on the side.

So will those modes be challenging, unlike, say, a party game?

We’re trying to make the kind of game where your skill in 1v1 matches naturally increases as you play the various different modes.

According to Konami, the reason why they numbered the newest game with an "R" for Super Bomberman R is meant to be a throwback to classic era Bomberman and gaming.
Quote:

According to Konami's social media team, that "R" means three different things. "R is a throwback feel for the devs to when games could simply have a letter and allow that letter to carry many meanings. It symbolized Returns and Reborn because this game is such a homage to SNES and SB3. But it also mean Rangers, to represent the diverse and colorful group of Bomberman characters who patrol the galaxy," Konami says.

Hinted at other controllers possibly being used though. Keeping hold of that Wii U Pro controller... And Pokken controller.

Quote:

Is Switch powerful enough to emulate Wii U games, or would they have to be ports, like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe?

We can take games and bring them and make them playable on Switch. So they can be remade for Switch, yes.

That said, Switch is not backward compatible with games designed for other systems, and is not currently compatible with controllers designed for other systems. Support for certain controllers may be considered for a future update. In some cases, games from past systems may be re-released for the Nintendo Switch system as either enhanced or original versions.

Ultra Street Fighter II was confirmed to include a first person mode called "Unleash! Ha-DO-ken"

Quote:

The announcement video for Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers showcased several seconds of a first-person mode with Ryu. It was a clear tease, and now we have some more information on what that mode actually entails by way of the game's official boxart (even though it still doesn't have a release date).

It's called "Unleash! Ha-DO-ken," and will use the Joy-Con remotes. It seems to be a timed minigame, and will involve blowing up Shadaloo grunts by making actual fireball motions with the controllers. This is something that would feel right at home in Tekken as an unlockable.

Starting when the game launches on 3rd March, players will be able to purchase an Expansion Pass for £17.99/€19.99, granting access to two new sets of downloadable content for the game when they become available later this year. Immediately upon pre-purchase or purchase of the Expansion Pass, three new Treasure Chests will appear in the game’s Great Plateau area. One of these Treasure Chests will contain a shirt with a Nintendo Switch logo which Link can wear during his adventure, exclusive to the Expansion Pass. The other two Treasure Chests will deliver useful items. The first content pack is scheduled to launch this summer and will include the addition of a Cave of Trials challenge, a new hard mode and a new feature for the in-game map. The second content pack will launch in Holiday 2017, and adds new challenges that will let players enjoy a new dungeon and a new original story. The Expansion Pass will be available for both the Nintendo Switch and Wii U versions of the game and are identical. Content packs cannot be purchased individually.

Media related support and services like Netflix rumored to be arriving some point after launch based on wording for some of the Switch's features. Also mobile devices rumored to be not the only way to use certain features.

Comes from some wording by Nintendo for certain features that imply more than previously announced.
Quote:

Parental Controls: "Parental Controls can be used to restrict features of this console. Configure these on the console or using your smart device."

Sleep Mode: "Suspend Auto-Sleep While Playing Media Content: Prevents auto-sleep from activating while media content is playing. If this option is disabled, the console will still go to sleep after four hours of media playback."

Maluco 02-16-2017 07:31 PM

Can't believe there is still no news on so many things just days from launch.

Not even a word about the virtual console, which I really thought would be vital with so few launch titles.

The Rogerer 02-16-2017 07:50 PM

They don't want people to throw a hissy fit when they realise that games aren't transferable from other systems. They're still in denial now.

According to Nintendo, eShop purchases will now be 100% tied to accounts and not locked to consoles itself like with the Wii, DS, 3DS, and Wii U (which did both).

Quote:

According to an FAQ that appears when attempting to format the system, "Your Nintendo Account contains your Nintendo eShop purchase history and current balance. By re-linking your Nintendo Account after initializing the console, it will be possible to redownload any software or DLC purchased using that account. (Software that has been discontinued may not be available to redownload in some cases.)"

For those interested in getting a Pro Controller, don't need to rely on a button to sync controllers like with the Wii and Wii U and instead it auto-syncs when linked with a USB cable.

Joy Cons also follow a similar route for syncing when attached to the console itself.

That is terrible, so disappointing...

Fast RMX and Shovel Knight is good news though.

Love the virtual console though and loved the idea of having older games I enjoy on it from the start. Really hoping it will be weeks rather than months

#BROKEN Hasney 02-23-2017 10:38 AM

So the press have released their impressions, and it's mostly good. But the left JoyCon apparently loses sync fairly often with some, but not all, the press units.

There is a day 1 update they don't have yet, so hopefully that fixes it. Otherwise, if Nintendo says nothing, I may end up cancelling my pre-order. Don't want to bother with a hardware lottery.

road doggy dogg 02-23-2017 11:47 AM

The VC thing sucks but ultimately matters little to me personally. On my 3DS the only actual VC title I bought was Earthbound. I find it very hard to get super jazzed about games I already own on another console, or paying money for something that was released ~20 years ago.

That sounds like a bit of a disaster tbh, how likely is it that it is fixable with an update?

VC is disappointing cause I really enjoy going back and buying games I never tried or reliving classics, part of the pull of the console for me was having those games on the go.

Obviously hardware problem is a massive issue and while the VC is not make or break, albeit very disappointing, any reason to think I may pay that much money for something faulty, would really make me think twice...

#BROKEN Hasney 02-23-2017 12:44 PM

It's probably a bluetooth issue, so very fixable in software. I hope that's right.

#BROKEN Hasney 02-23-2017 01:06 PM

I've gone through and counted a lot of the previews and less than about 10% mention a dodgy joycon. Could just be their own interference. Also, no issues in Europe yet. Woo.

Similar to the Wii U, physical Switch games won't require a mandatory install. Then again the games are on carts and probably would have been a bit weird if they did.

Nintendo is also holding a Nintendo Direct-like episode on February 28th focusing on indie games being released this year for the Switch.

Gamespot also did some tests in regards to the tablet's battery and the sweet spot is around 3 hours for usage for Zelda which is what Nintendo was claiming for the game.
Quote:

Technology Editor Jimmy Thang played the game with a full charge on the screen's default brightness and got three hours and three minutes of battery life until the device keeled over. With a full charge and playing in airplane mode on full brightness, Reviews Editor Peter Brown got two hours and 50 minutes out of the console. Both figures come relatively close to Nintendo's three-hour claim.

If you're wondering how fast the Switch charges, Peter clocked a 49 percent charge after an hour in the dock.

Keep thinking I won't get this then I see this thread and want it.

Maluco 02-24-2017 05:55 AM

Controller connectivity issue appears to be because of a lower Bluetooth signal to keep the battery usage low. It means that the signal can be blocked off by someone walking past the screen or by a hand covering the joycon.

They may be able to release a fix, but it seems like just holding the controller the right way will resolve the issue.

drave 02-24-2017 06:00 AM

weak

The Rogerer 02-24-2017 02:01 PM

It costs enough, come on.

How's it coping with people playing 1 2 Switch and walking around?

#BROKEN Hasney 02-24-2017 03:07 PM

Looks like it's just a bluetooth blocking issue, but slightly emphasised since the controller is smaller. I can do a similar blocking thing on a DS4 or my phone with wireless headphones.

The Rogerer 02-24-2017 03:37 PM

The PS4's been out for years, I'm obsessed with controllers and never heard of that. Not saying it doesn't happen, but its rare. The Switch is going for motion controls, sideways holding in a range of environments. If I even have to think about the controller disconnecting, screw that.

#BROKEN Hasney 02-24-2017 04:15 PM

You have to hold them both unaturally to do it. To stop the DS4, you'd have to wrap your hand around the light bar. The only reason it's easier on the joy con is because they;re so small. It doesn't happen in the grip.

Sepholio 02-24-2017 04:58 PM

Links little gadget he uses looks like a fancy switch tablet. You get a switch shirt for link for buying the season pass. #ShamelessMarketing

Kalyx triaD 02-24-2017 05:48 PM

Yeah, that's already out for the Wii U and is great if you like an F-Zero type of game. Wii U version had framerate drops though, which was kind of annoying in a fast racing game, so hoping this one holds up.

There's an indie presentation happening right now. Starting with Yooka-Laylee, which is the Banjo Kazooie spiritual successor and looks fucking great.

Overcooked, which is already fucking great and a mad 4 player game.

The Escapists 2. The original is pretty cool, but this has 4 player co-op

Gonner is a roguelike platformer, coming this year like the rest, and is a timed exclusive on Switch

Dandara coming in the summer. Fast paced action platformer

Kingdom 2 crowns later this year, kingdom simulator with co-op

Bit.Trip Runner 3 is a Switch exclusive and looks so pretty. Full 3D now. Fall 2017

Blaster Master 0. Fucking hell, awesome. Switch and 3DS Exclusive on March 9th!

Flipping Death coming 2017. Looks like a stylish platform puzzle game musical thing. Girl dies and becomes death

2D Shooter Graceful Explosion Machine, first on Switch in April

2D heist game mixed with Hotline Miami Mr. Shifty, first on Switch in April

Tumbleseed is coming Spring, physic puzzler

The "16-bit" sequel to Retro City Rampage, Shakedown Hawaii. This April, first on Switch

2D fighting game in the style of KOF for Neo Geo Pocket looks fucking great. Even has GGPO online. Pocket Rumble out this month, console exclusive on Switch

War Groove. Advance Wars clone!!!! sekjfhsdjkfhjkfd. Since Nintendo aren't fucking bothering. Hell yes. Online and local multiplayer with a battlefield creator. Just "soon" though, this year.

Stardew Valley! Oh god, multiplayer!! Summer!

#BROKEN Hasney 02-28-2017 12:22 PM

A lot of that looks great and Nintendo have done a good job getting a couple of exclusives and some timed exclusives. Should pad out the big game releases nicely. So pumped for War Groove especially.

Also a graphic shown confirming Duck Game, Enter The Gungeon, Thumper and Hover. Not played Hover, but the others are fantastic.

Runner3 from Choice Provisions: Runner3 continues the joyous adventures of CommanderVideo from BIT.TRIP RUNNER and Runner2. Players will encounter quests, branching paths, item shops, new Retro Challenges, new character moves, new dance moves and a roster of characters that somehow manages to rival the strangeness of Runner2. The game is scheduled to launch exclusively for Nintendo Switch this fall.

SteamWorld Dig 2 from Image & Form Games: In the sequel to the award-winning original, you must dig deep, gain riches and explore an underworld riddled with danger. The game is scheduled to launch this summer.

Yooka Laylee from Team 17 and Playtonic Games: Explore huge, beautiful worlds, meet an unforgettable cast of characters and horde a vault-load of shiny collectibles as buddy-duo Yooka (the green one) and Laylee (the wisecracking bat with the big nose). The buddy-duo platformer is coming to Nintendo Switch soon, with multiplayer functionality perfect for the system.

Blaster Master Zero from Inti Creates: The same elements that made the original Blaster Master a hit are back, including side-scrolling vehicular combat, top-down adventuring and a huge sci-fi landscape, in addition to a host of new and improved gameplay systems. The game includes a two-player mode and will have numerous character cameos coming soon. Blaster Master Zero launches exclusively on both Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo 3DS family systems on March 9.

Pocket Rumble from Chucklefish Games and Cardboard Robot Games: This deep 2D fighter makes players want to throw down, anywhere, anytime. The battles get even more intense with the inclusion of HD rumble: When players get hit by a weak attack, it’ll feel very different from getting rocked by a strong one. The game is scheduled to launch as a console exclusive for Nintendo Switch in March.

Flipping Death from Zoink Games: Welcome to Flatwood Peaks, a small whimsical town with a problem – Death is on vacation. Play as Penny and help the ghosts with their peculiar problems on The Otherside. This puzzling adventure game is scheduled to come to Nintendo Switch later this year.

Mr. Shifty from tinyBuild and Team Shifty: Shift through bullets, and master lightning-fast takedowns in a new kind of action game. Mr. Shifty follows a teleportation-fueled heist to break into the world’s most secure facility. Shift through walls, through bullets, cover huge distances and be everywhere at once. One shot kills. Survive on skills. HD rumble allows players to feel every punch, shot and crash. The game is scheduled to launch first on Nintendo Switch this April.

Wargroove from Chucklefish Games: This turn-based strategy game offers local and online matches for one to four players. The game is scheduled to launch later this year.

Stardew Valley from Chucklefish Games and ConcernedApe: Nintendo Switch will be the first console to support the game’s new multiplayer feature. The open-ended, country-life RPG is scheduled to launch this summer.

Shakedown Hawaii from vBlank: This 16-bit spiritual successor to Retro City Rampage aims to be twice as good with twice the bits. From the boardroom to the streets, Shakedown Hawaii parodies big business and the white collar crimes that go alongside. Build your empire, monopolize the markets and collaterally re-zone the island’s destructible sandbox. It’s scheduled to launch first on Nintendo Switch this April.

Graceful Explosion Machine from Vertex Pop: Skillfully pilot the advanced Graceful Explosion Machine (GEM) fighter while blasting swarms of crystalline enemies with your ludicrously overpowered quad-weapon array. This side-scrolling arcade shooter features HD rumble support, which means players will really be able to feel those machines explode. The game is scheduled to launch first on Nintendo Switch this April.

Tumbleseed from aeiowu: A small seed heads up a mountain to save his home in this physics-based game. More than 30 unique upgrades help the seed overcome challenges and enemies. HD rumble means players will feel seeds traversing across the screen. The game is scheduled to launch on Nintendo Switch this spring.

Overcooked: Special Edition from Team 17 and Ghost Town Games: In Overcooked, players must journey through a variety of cruel and unusual kitchens on their quest to become master chefs capable of conquering an ancient edible evil which plagues the land. Play solo or engage in classic, chaotic couch co-op for up to four players in both co-operative and competitive challenge modes. The special edition features the original game, plus all of the DLC. HD rumble integration means they can feel every chop through a tomato and the slosh of soup in a pot. Overcooked: Special Edition is coming later this year.

The Escapists 2 from Team 17 and Mouldy Toof: The sequel to the hugely popular prison escape series supports drop-in/drop-out co-op for up to four players (additional accessories are required for multiplayer modes, and are sold separately). Players can tie together knotted sheets and use them to climb down high windows in new multi-level prisons, and find other new ways to make a break for freedom. The Escapists 2 is coming later this year.

GoNNER from Raw Fury and Art in Heart: GoNNER is a tough-as-hell, score-based, procedurally generated platformer with roguelike elements. GoNNER is also a story about friendship between Ikk, Death and a space whale named Sally. You will die. A lot. The console version of the game launches first on Nintendo Switch with additional content tailor-made for the system later this year.

Kingdom: Two Crowns from Raw Fury and Noio: In Kingdom: Two Crowns, attend to your domain, border to border, or venture into the wild to discover its wonders and threats. First revealed today, two players can come together in co-op mode to rule a kingdom. Their choices bring hope or despair to their subjects. The game is scheduled to launch later this year.

Dandara from Raw Fury and Long Hat House: Dandara has awoken to reshape the world. In this strange world of quirky characters, nothing is at it seems. In this bizarre, gravity-bending world with hidden beauty, it’s up to Dandara, jumping from surface to surface, to restore order and direct a directionless world. The game is scheduled to launch on Nintendo Switch this summer with exclusive features and functionality, including HD rumble support.

Oh that's awesome. I occasionally stream from my gaming PC to my secondary HTPC/TV set-up for gaming before bed, and I only have a wired X360 controller. This will be a nice quality of life change to have a bluetooth controller that I was planning on buying anyway

road doggy dogg 02-28-2017 03:51 PM

Nice to see Terraria on the list. Hopefully it's not overpriced like the 3DS version, but doubtful. Would love to play it on Switch but I can't stomach paying $30+ for a game I got on Steam for $4

#BROKEN Hasney 02-28-2017 05:24 PM

Blaster Master 0 is going to be 10 bucks. That's an easy buy a week after the console.

Maluco 02-28-2017 06:11 PM

I am not sure about any of the indie titles? Any in particular I should be looking out for?
