Nintendo Switch Announced
It's the handheld/console in one. Uses real controllers, or clipped to the side, or has a stand so you can have the controller seperate in portable form. Fucking awesome.
Shown: Zelda Skyrim Remastered NBA New Mario Mario Kart with King Boo and double stacked items Splatoon Coming March 2017. https://youtu.be/f5uik5fgIaI |
WTF its a fucking psp. You've been able to plug those into TVs for years. How is this exactly innovative?
This is the first nintendo console in history that I will not purchase. I'm done. |

The dock looks like it will scratch the screen..stupid

This pisses me off SO MUCH!
|
nah jk
|
I don't think portable gaming on what amounts to a 7 inch (?) tablet will be that popular.
|
It's confirmed that it is using a custom NVidia processor.

Now we get a weak system with no innovation. It's going to flop just like the WiiU did. |
It seems cool but I'd be more excited if I still played games.
|
Is it small enough to be considered a handheld? Can I fit it in my pocket?
|

Now I just don't need to buy a home console and a handheld, it's all in one and much more powerful than another clamshell handheld could be. That's fucking sweet to me. It's a massive leap for their portable platfoem which is the most exciting part for me. |
LOL you said Pokemans.
|
It's pretty cool.
I'm pretty sure I'll be buying it and I'm looking forward to finding out more information on it. |
Fuck this reveal trailer. I don't want to be sold on "cool factor" or clicking noises.
Need intel on shit like undocked battery life, actual confirme launch titles (not the superimposed shit to show people playing a game, game format (carts? Discs? Hybrids? Download only?) Do like the "big boy" controller, though. Looks like the 360 gamepad had sex with a Wavebird, and they made an attractive offspring that would actually be comfortable and intuitive to hold and use. Docking those paddle things to a pad for that sort-of controllerseems a bit wonky and/or pointless though. |
Carts. It shows people using carts.
It comes out in March. There's plenty of time for all that. They just wanted to confirm the core concept before the investors meeting. They apparently wanted to do a full reveal last month, but Mario wasn't where they wanted it before doing a full show off. |
Where do I pre-order?

Was there a Mario Adventure game like Galaxy for the 3DS?

So is this the NX thing? I want this for Zelda since the Wii U never gave me a new game. I don't need the WII U for this right? Probably going 5o buy it since Nintendo still rocks.
|
So let's talk about the death of the 3DS...
|
Found it really interesting EA was among the list of companies working on Switch games considering the feud they had with Nintendo over the Wii U. Just getting sports games from them would already be a huge improvement for Nintendo.

Looks pretty sexy to me.
|
The rumours for months have been ports of Smash Wii U, Mario Kart and Splatoon for launch window, so I'm glad this confirms some of it. But both Splatoon and MK look different enough that there's at least some changes to make them different, which is good, because they'll probably want full price again.
Hoping there are more Wii U classics too. Not for me, but I know a lot of people who will be interested in this who never got a Wii U. |
While it was shown during the debut trailer, Bethesda is currently not confirming Skyrim Remastered will be getting released for the Switch. Although they did confirm they are currently working on Switch games.

Seems PrettyCool, but I don't really play games anymore, and can't seem to get back into them no matter how hard I try/want to....... |
I lost interest in handhelds when I was about 15 and most of Nintendo's focus since then has been pushing the handheld. I'm sure I'll get this a year or two after its release but I'm not that stoked
|
If the rumors about a main series Pokemon game developed by Gamefreak coming to this thing are true then I'll be picking it up for sure first chance I get. Any word on the price tag?

Nothing concrete on price, but most sources guess $300 or under. |

Nintendo announced physical 3DS and Wii U games will not be compatible for the Switch but digital games could end up being made compatible during the Switch's life.
http://www.gamespot.com/articles/nin.../1100-6444706/ Blizzard debunking rumors of them currently working on a Hearthstone port for the Switch after saying they only used the official Hearthstone Twitter account to make a meme joke based on recent a teaser image involving Mario and the NX announcement. https://www.destructoid.com/no-heart...h-394781.phtml |
Looks cool. I'm not big into gaming either. Still play the PS2 from time to time. Having good sports games for Nintendo like NBA 2K and Madden would be great in my opinion. Feel like this can at least compete with XBox and PlayStation better than the Wii did.
|
Quote:
|
still? Xbox360 was around for a good chunk of time.
|
Wii sold over 100mil. PS3 and 360 sold approx 84mil
|
Yup. Still. PS3 even ended up outselling the 360 due to MS not being able to get popularity in large parts of Europe and Asia.
|
Eh Wii always seemed like the worst out of the three to me. I'm sure they sold well for the family factor. Weren't they cheaper also? I never moved on from the PS2 so it doesn't matter to me either way. I won't buy this console but it looks better than anything Nintendo has done since N64.

looks really cool

There's a hype for this that I haven't seen in some time. Like the Wii U being non-existent has helped to the point where people are looking at it like "Woah, I've not used Nintendo since the Wii!".
Unfortunately, Nintendo have already announced they're going to kill noff the hype by saying they're not going to talk about it more until 2017.... |
The Switch trailer on YouTube has already suprassed the lifetime views of the 2011 Wii U trailer with 11.6million views.
|
I think less is more here. Famine can be a big motivater for consumers. 3 months of marketing leading to launch is plenty
|
So going to buy this. How do you not want to play every Mario game ever? Zelda coming at the release. Yum.

What do you consider a real Mario game? Mario 3D for the Wii U was epic. Galaxy was also amazing. I will always enjoy the 2D games the most though.
|
A short list off the top of my head.
Super Mario Brothers Super Mario Lost Levels Super Mario Brothers 2. Super Mario 3. Super Mario World. Super Mario 64. Super Mario Sunshine Super Mario Galaxy Super Mario Galaxy 2. Super Mario Maker since you can make levels of most of the others listed. -Side scrolling or 3D Adventure. -Story -Stars Mario (or Mario and Luigi) -1 Player (or two taking turns after defeat) -Not an Activity Game. (No Karts, Smashing, Golfing, Olympics, Ghostbusting*, Tennis, Party) *Luigi's Mansion is debatable. Not sure how I feel about it on the list. I'm also going by fact that I asked if there was any real Mario Games on the WiiU. 3D seems to fit the general parameters. |
I need more Paper Mario RPGs in my life
|
I really hope they do one with a good battle system again. Just finished Colour Splash and it's brilliantly written, but the combat is so shit.
|
Just take what they did in 1000 year door and do it all over again...that's all i want

Launch day buy for me. No question .
|
Looks intriguing but Nintendo is basically killing it's 3DS line of consoles with this. Why would anyone buy a 3DS when they can buy this and have even more functions with them.
|
A new console this early is pretty much a call of defeat. They have to over impress to get back people.

Big reason why Nintendo finally got around to making mobile games since they no longer had the advantage over the constant bugging by investors to rush into the market.

I feel like a lot of older people bought the wii system but never bought any games

People discredit the Wii (and Nintendo) just because Bro's dont play it

They're not killing the 3DS line I can assure you. It still prints money for Nintendo. This is simply a different system and may end up killing the 3DS like the Gameboy line but not for another 2-4 years after the launch of the Switch.
|
Quote:
Only way of happens is if the Switch bombs harder than the Wii U. This is what they have to do mostly because 3DS didn't live up to sales expectations. |

My outside hope is something like a Super Mario RPG 2. |

Switch will be higher price then a 3DS but if its portability works as advertised then whatever excuse for 3DS exclusives wither away by sheer common sense. There would be no reason to not have a Pokemon game down the line for Switch, outside from some absurd spin control nobody will accept.
Switch's success is the end of Nintendo's console/portable parity mark my words. Even the rumors way back talked about Nintendo wanting to merge these fields. And that's not even mentioning nuclear options I know Nintendo has like a Pokemon MMO or a Super Mario 'Universe' (Maker + Galaxy + 3D World multiplayer = $billions). The year Nintendo legit under performs they dick slap us with megatons until they get comfortable and do weird shit again. That has been the cycle for years. |
I doubt it would ever happen but a Pokemon MMO would be insane. Look how insanely popular Pokemon Go is/was.

I just wish it was more powerful. The fact that wiiu was designed to compete with ps3 and 360 is what killed it. It needed to be closer to ps4 and one. And now this is going to get smashed by pro and scorpio. I fear another cycle of minimal 3rd party support.

demand will only go up from here though with the rise of HDR and 4K.
|
I would be hyped for the Switch if it was 4k, even if it was only upscaling to 4k and not native.
|
Quote:
|
I dunno, 4k is awfully pretty. Consoles that can take advantage of it are cheaper than PCs. Hot Shiny Newness is a big drawing factor to idiots in the market, myself included.
|
4k will move some units, I'm just not convinced it will move enough numbers that it will limit not 4k anytime in the next 5-7 years.
|
I mean, people bought the Wii in droves and it didn't even support HD.
4k and HDR don't seem to be big deals yet, its not going to hurt the launch. There were rumours that 4k will be supported for Netflix and shit too, so 4k output is possible. I mean, I'm getting a PS4 Pro, but I'm not getting a 4k TV in the next 5 years. Power up my VR. |
Unlike the Wii U, Nintendo won't be selling the Switch at a loss although at the moment haven't committed to a final price for the console according to a Wall Street Journal source with direct ties to the company.

Seems overkill to have the chipset for a pixel c thatdoes 2560x1800 when it only does 720p in portable mode.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...i-touch-screen
Quote:
|
The stuff about the screen makes sense considering Nintendo did tease at the idea of making digital 3DS and Wii U compatible for the Switch at some point. Some of those games made use of touch controls so it would make sense the Switch screen had some form of it.
|
Yeah, and a Mario Maker port has been rumoured since the start alongside MK, Splaoon and Smash.
Other report today says it uses a USB Type-C port to charge, which would be fantastic. Current prototype charge from the bottom though, so can't be used at the same time as the kickstand. Hopefully they sort that out. |
The video had splatoon being played on the competitive controller. I could see them removing the spawn screen touch thing. Khuntry's gamepad broke and it rendered Maker and Splatoon dead. They need to offer more ways to make these games work.
