Beyond Good & Evil 2 might pull a Duke Nukem Forever for development time since Ubisoft won't just toss money around to fund the game like the 1st one while also making sure the game is good enough to not be another flop. They want the game to have something unique similar to how Splinter Cell and Assassin's Creed had new things unlike other games.

They should just put it on XBLA/PSN in 3 Episodes or something. BG&E was a pretty good game, despite commercial failure. Demos really help with things like this.

Emperor Smeat 08-20-2010 06:20 PM

Looks like the Nintendo 3DS d-pad that was shown at E3 and in pictures might not be the final version of the pad. Nintendo went to Capcom to ask if they could port Street Fighter to the handheld while also getting input from Capcom on redesigning the pad to make fighters better on the handheld.

Capcom wants something similar to the SNES d-pad when Street Fighter II came out for the system.

Funky Fly 08-21-2010 01:22 AM

SNES D-pad is perfect. Nintendo should listen.

In regards to what KK said, I think getting the Cerberus pack is worth it, especially if you buy it new. A new game is like 5 bucks more, plus you get a full character mission. I mean, the Zaeed character would be 1200 points without it, so assuming you're going to download all the DLC, it's already paid itself off.

Five dollars more than what, exactly?

Potential weak sales of Madden may signal a really bad time for the games industry.

And yeah, any time a "top" franchise like this gets discounted after a week, something's up.

For Funky Fly and anyone else who likes the Musou series, Samurai Warriors 3 is being reported as announced for the PS3, according to Magicbox. This is supposedly separate from the prior rumour.

I know that doesn't directly benefit Fucky, but a PS3 version almost certainly means a 360 version, as the PS3 version has been the lead platform for all or most of Koei's Multiplat titles of late. DW6 and E, DWG and 2, and I think Fisting Northstar.

Funky Fly 08-22-2010 05:00 AM

For the most part, I ignore that type of game, but every now and then I find a real (mostly shitty, but still a guilty pleasure of a) gem.

Devil Kings, SW1, 99 Nights. Looking forward to that Fist of the Northstar one, unless it's out here already and I've been missing out.

Kane Knight 08-22-2010 08:11 AM

FOTNS has a European release date but not a US one. Doesn't mean it's not coming out here....Just that it doesn't have a release date yet.

SW2 was way better than one, except a couple of the voice options. Keiji Maeda became a surfer dude. Oh, and no Kunoichi. In fact, it's one of the major reasons I was looking forward to 3. Especially since it didn't get the revision the DW series did.

Funky Fly 08-22-2010 03:30 PM

Have they fixed how the combat feels weird and light? If I'm gonna be hacking up like 15 guys at the same time, really I should feel like I'm laying a severe beatdown and not wading through paper.

Kane Knight 08-22-2010 03:43 PM

I think it's better, but it's still the same core gameplay. So what you decide is light might just be a part of it. Sumo and Spearmen his "harder," too, making it harder to just wade through people. I'm not gonna pretend they changed it all up, but it's different.

Pretty sure he's talking about GS's standard $54.99 used & $59.99 new pricing.

Kane Knight 08-22-2010 09:19 PM

Which seems moot if we're talking to BDC about what he should buy.

Time to add the Nintendo DS to the long list of systems Plants vs Zombies will have appeared on. Game won't arrive until January 2011 while Xbox 360 version is set to be released next month.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed sequel going to use the same development plan as the first game where the Wii version will act as a separate story to the Ps3/Xbox 360 version while having exclusive Jedi powers. Also confirmed is 4 player multiplayer in a 2D fighting style.

1. Meh. Tower defence is boring to me.

2. The Wii couldn't handle the size and scope of a game like that anyway.

3. Ahahahahahahaha. Why not ban Rambo 3 while we're at it? John Rambo aids the people who eventually become the Taliban in that movie.

Looks like Sony is going to join THQ, Ubisoft, and E.A. with the $10 Online Pass idea. Earliest game that would be considered for the pass would be MLB 11 The Show.

http://kotaku.com/5619834/sony-consi...r-mlb-the-show

Activision is still considering the idea but probably won't join until a year later since the Call of Duty developers and Blizzard are against the idea.

Kalyx triaD 08-24-2010 12:33 AM

Can't believe Sony's a follower in this case.

G 08-24-2010 12:59 AM

They all will eventually

Kalyx triaD 08-24-2010 01:02 AM

Eh.

Xero 08-24-2010 01:08 AM

Wait until they start realizing that not everyone wants online and they start doing it to certain modes, or certain levels/maps.

Want access to the key that allows you to finish the game? Well TOUGH FUCKING SHIT if you bought it used!

Kalyx triaD 08-24-2010 01:12 AM

Unlikely, but it would still only affect a market they have no stake in.

Xero 08-24-2010 01:13 AM

I disagree. If you lock out the used game market, it potentially locks out some console and hardware buyers. The console makers will realistically start feeling it.

Used games is a HUGE business, so you can't say it wouldn't effect them.

Capcom has already done this exact thing before with Resident Evil 5 (pay to unlock multiplayer mode) and Mega Man 9/10 (pay to unlock Hard Mode and other stuff).

I don't follow the PSP news as much but from what I've heard Sony has already done the pay for modes plan with 2 or 3 PSP games with SOCOM the only one I can remember.

alvarado52 08-24-2010 01:21 AM

As a former video game store employee, i will tell you that we sold many many consoles just based on the fact that they could buy some games for it at a discount price.

True...

I'd like to see the numbers of stuff like hard mode versus the game itself. I thought they dropped the hard mode shit in Mega Man 10 because it didn't sell well?

Nobody's being locked out of anything.

At best there will be a blow to DLC sales as 2nd hand buyers who would have purchased DLC will no longer factor. Everything else is easy as pie PR spin.

Funky Fly 08-24-2010 02:47 AM

Remember when Gears of War's Cliff Blezinski was talking about people having to pay for a game's ending and basically got laughed out of the building? Who's laughing now?

THQ's Cory Ledesma has delivered a blunt message to consumers buying used copies of his company's games: they're cheating the publisher out of money.

"I don't think we really care whether used game buyers are upset because new game buyers get everything", THQ's creative director for wrestling titles told Gamasutra. "So if used game buyers are upset they don't get the online feature set I don't really have much sympathy for them". (Aye, but he forgets what type of over entitled lot he's dealing with)

"That's a little blunt but we hope it doesn't disappoint people. We hope people understand that when the game's bought used we get cheated".

Little risky going after the consumer with this argument. Target GameStop all you want for making the industry so dependent on used game sales, but Average Joe buying the things just wants a cheaper game. Who knows, maybe - heaven forbid - he can't afford $50-60 for a video game!
Maybe Average Joe has bigger issues than game purchases. Nobody ever needs to buy a game, and if you actually have to brainstorm buying a videogame or a necessity; you need to reevaluate your priorities. And that's coming from somebody who breathes this shit.

Maybe so, but times are tough and charging more than your customers are happy to pay hurts sales too.

Besides, Smackdown, of all franchises, really have no place to be doing this, seeing as the changes are so minimal most years (less so than you'd even think going by what you can see on a hacked Xbox)

Games are still $60 last I checked. If Gamestop wants to increase the used reduction rates than they should help out Average Joe. The 2nd hand market is a market between retailers and those who are out to get a used game for whatever reason. The dialogue then, is between said retailers and used game purchasers.

Fresh buyers aren't getting charged a cent extra.

Funky Fly 08-24-2010 06:58 AM

Like I said in some other thread, the prices jumped to $70 in Canada last year. Heard rumblings of a further jump.

Some titles still come out at $60 to try to beat out competition that's coming out at a similar time (Split/Second was $60, while Blur was $70).

Funky Fly 08-24-2010 07:32 AM

Oi, when did metacritic get its new layout? I HATE IT.

Well, unless people who buy used also buy new, and impacting one market really impacts those people.

Sure they are.

It's not entitlement to expect that features not be removed. Further, the only issue isn't games v necessities. when you have your own money, you'll understand.

But most importantly, it's worth noting that used games stimulate the sales of new games because they inject cash back into the cycle. These companies are hoping to get money either way, but it doesn't necessarily work that way.

Not just that, but it helps sells new copies of a series. For example, I got Ass Creed 1 and 2 used and I'm looking forward to Ass Creed 3, so much so that I might buy it new.
