Can we talk about how good Goon was?

I'm going to watch the sequel soon, but this was probably the best sports movie I've ever seen.

Seanny One Ball 10-20-2017 10:59 AM

It's a good movie but "best sports movie" it certainly aint.
Alison Pill should never ever play a leading role in anything, especially not a fucking love interest. She has the face of a little boy.

Also I'm not sure it's a film that needed a sequel.

Destor 10-20-2017 11:09 AM

Space Jam is the best sports movie

Blonde Moment 10-20-2017 11:21 AM

Goon was pretty damn good but no Slapshot good. We'll see about Goon2 when I get a chance to see it

Seanny One Ball 10-20-2017 11:31 AM

The best sports movie is the The Benchwarmers

Swiss Ultimate 10-20-2017 01:41 PM

Goon was better than Slapshot. Hated Benchwarmers.

Seanny One Ball 10-21-2017 12:12 PM

If I was being serious I'd say the best sports movie is Tin Cup, Field Of Dreams or Rocky.

Stickman 10-21-2017 12:54 PM

I agree, The Goon was an unexpected good movie.

Bad News Gertner 10-21-2017 05:50 PM

Goon was really good. Haven't seen the sequel yet.

Nicky Fives 10-24-2017 10:08 AM

Goon was great. Goon 2 was alright. Greatest sports movie ever is A League Of Their Own.

Blonde Moment 10-24-2017 10:52 AM

What are the best sport movies by genre?

Sounds like a spinoff thread to me.

Swiss Ultimate 10-25-2017 11:45 AM

I want to see Hockey live again. Good memories.

Seanny One Ball 10-25-2017 01:30 PM

If they get rid of the enforcer then Goon 2 may be the only sequel

Danny Electric 10-26-2017 01:09 PM

This thread just made me realise which film I recognised Alison Pill from when watching American Horror Story.

Lock Jaw 10-26-2017 03:31 PM

I know her from the HBO hit series The Newsroom

Danny Electric 10-26-2017 07:46 PM

Meant to say it was Scott Pilgrim I remembered her from .

Facts.

Helmsphere 10-28-2017 04:38 PM

I loved the Goon and have watched it many times on Netflixs.

But favorite sports movie is The Replacements.

Eh... slow down.

That's almost like saying CB4 was better than This Is Spinal Tap.

mitchables 11-01-2017 10:52 PM

What is the best football movie?

Lock Jaw 11-02-2017 01:49 AM

Today I learned they called The Mighty Ducks just "Champions" in some parts of the world.........

Weird.......

Good pick for a sports movie, though

mitchables 11-02-2017 04:33 AM

They called the sequel "The Mighty Ducks" here also, it caused a bit of confusion for us as children.

mitchables 11-02-2017 04:38 AM

By the DVD era they were released here as The Mighty Ducks and D2: The Mighty Ducks though so it all worked out eventually

Goon better than Slapshot? You're about to cause a riot up here in Canada

Seanny One Ball 11-04-2017 12:50 PM

Slapshot is one of those Paul Newman films I always want to see but have never had a chance. I don't think it has ever been on TV while I was watching.

Bad News Gertner 11-11-2017 04:39 PM

Oh God, it's on all the time here in Canada

Shisen Kopf 11-11-2017 04:42 PM

Slapshit is what I call that crapfest. Typical Canadian unfunny nonsense. Such a lame movie from a lame country.

Seanny One Ball 11-11-2017 05:56 PM

I love Canada

Seanny One Ball 11-25-2017 02:29 PM

I picked up Goon 2 for £3 yesterday. It is not the film that the first one was, that's for sure.
It made me think though. I suppose it's trying to do a semi serious take on the enforcer in hockey and they could hardly celebrate smashing heads now what with CTE issue becoming huge news. It was a weird mixture of violence and disapproval and honestly the plot was just so thin. I've seen films held together by less but they usually had a lot of great scenes to distract you from the plot development.

You can tell that Evan Goldberg wasn't involved in the writing this time. I would advise Jay Baruchel to find a creative writing partner if he wants to try directing another film.

How the fuck has the Sandlot not been mentioned? Or the Natural? Or Major League? You guys are killing me.

SlickyTrickyDamon 11-29-2017 03:53 AM

Well, it was mostly about hockey movies for most of it.

Damian Rey 2.0 11-30-2017 02:09 AM

Oh....well fuck
